I am, however, very much in favor of seeing a string of thousands of various cargo/construction crafts moving between the Death Star and the moon, which can include the Zeta-class; for there it makes sense and I hope we see it.

I was thinking of this too, but does the current dialog on the Star Destroyer allow for Tydirium to just be one of hundreds they’ve seen today? And would they all have to pass right over the Destroyer and “fly casual”?

It would be cool to see dozens of shuttles milling about the Death Star, but since the moon only contains the shield generator and this is operational, there shouldn’t be many craft traveling that way. So perhaps Tydirium is in a line of shuttles headed for the Death Star but breaks away for the moon, taking it across the path of the destroyer.

“Where is that shuttle going?” Could work!

But this would eliminate a very important piece of information, that Vader can feel Luke’s presence, and that he realizes that the Emperor was right, and his son came to him.
If he thinks this is just a rebel shuttle they might just shoot it down. I see no reason why Vader would let them land on Endor.

The only thing this changes is that Vader questions where the shuttle is going because it’s breaking from the normal route. It doesn’t alter the fact that Vader then senses Luke.
And they don’t think it’s a Rebel shuttle, it’s an Imperial cargo ship and the older clearance code they have “still checks out”. None of that is changed.

Agreed. Breaking from a line of traffic destined for the Death Star to make it’s way toward the forest moon would garner Vader’s attention - especially if it is implied by the existing dialogue that he can sense Luke’s presence. Having Piett ask what their cargo and destination is would comport with Vader’s query.

The interior of the Sentinel’s cockpit is similar to the Lambda’s anyway (unlike the Zeta), so he wouldn’t have to change anything there.

So does the exterior nose, which means some background replacement for the docking bay set instead of replacing every set piece.

Definitely like that idea A LOT.

Han’s piloting skills to try and break for the moon by ‘flying casual’ would make that a bigger punchline.

Regarding Shield Generator:

I’m okay with the idea of adding a Rogue One shield gate device on the moon of Endor if Ady wants to go through the trouble of adding one.

As to the DSII - NO. We should not see any blue glow around the Death Star at all. I’m for seeing it after Lando orders the fleet to pull up and a couple fighters do not make it. But it should be invisible until a ship hits it. Remember - DSII is actually a TRAP set by the Emperor. It is meant to look unfinished and relatively unprotected. The shield generator while functional - is also part of Emp’s plot. The Rebels were fed intel from Emp himself, and everything about the attack at Endor was a trap laid for the purpose of wiping out the Alliance in total, both ground and space forces. The dire consequences of that fact were lost due to the overuse of cuteness and laughs. So adding a shield gate and showing a forcefield around Endor is not that necessary in terms of strategy. It is meant to look vulnerable so as to goad the Alliance to attack it. Emp actually being there himself assures that the bait is taken. Everything about DSII and Endor is a trap.

Of course Admiral Akbar says it best.

I’m not saying I’m sold on the idea yet, but you can fit Fett’s call between Jabba’s sentence and the arrival at the Pit of Carkoon. Reedit the bit where Fett uses his rope to capture Luke to make it seem like he’s trying to capture him alive, then Vader’s arrival (to an empty Palace) can come after the departure from Tatooine.

It might screw with the pacing, but I think it’s worth an attempt to see how it works. If new footage can be shot and lines can be recorded that don’t sound like bad impressionists, anyway.

Meh. I’m not liking that departure. It’s not necessary to begin with and just adds unnecessary shots to the sequence that takes away the focus on our heroes. To me that will be as unnecessary as Vader’s shuttle landing on his Super Star Destroyer in the Special Edition of Empire. I do not care why Fett is at Jabba’s Palace. He is a bounty hunter and such creatures get paid by gangsters as a regular gig, so I never questioned why Fett was there.

Logically, Fett is not going to try and ‘kidnap’ Luke for Vader in front of Jabba’s entire entourage AFTER Jabba declares he is to be executed for killing his pet rancor and orders him off the plank. It’s ridiculous. He would end up being chased by the entirety of Jabba’s forces for defying the execution order. Fett’s own dislike for Jedi is enough to propel him into trying to take Skywalker out when Luke defies the executioner and clears the skiff of Jabba’s henchmen. The only thing I am interested in changing is how Fett is blown off the skiff and how he is dragged into the Sarlaac. I think Luke should do it with his saber. Han accidentally hitting it with the skiff axe and activating it was never funny. Luke taking Fett out himself would serve to show how powerful he has become. Han should be focused on rescuing Lando - he already has a laugh when shooting the tendril.

I’m not interested in a side-plot of Fett trying to capture Luke for Vader.

Re: Fett idea of him contacting Vader.

I do not see how such a thing could flow in terms of pacing and editing. Luke arrives at Jabba’s palace, comes into the throne room, confronts Jabba - and ends up in the Rancor Pit. Do you then cut to Fett contacting Vader? When he is brought out after killing the Rancor, Jabba pronounces the death sentence at the Pit of Carkoon and everyone is leaving to board the sail barge. Does Fett tell him then? How does that figure into Vader wanting him alive while Jabba sentences him to death? Is Fett gonna talk Jabba out of killing him or kidnap Skywalker for Vader? I do not see how you overcome that pacing and jarring plot issue.

It is not necessary. Fett looks to be contracted by Jabba, probably a more lucrative deal than the uncertainty of dealing with Vader and deals that get altered.

The ONLY thing I would want fixed is Fett’s demise - and it could be done as simply as re-editing the sequence after Luke cuts the gauntlet cord. After Fett gets up right after the shot of the other skiff shooting at them, have Luke’s saber being shown cutting into the backpack and sending Fett flying. Of course Ady will kill the silly shot of Fett flailing about while screaming as he flies into the sail barge. But hey - since the Beak is gone from the Sarlaac - why not make the tendrils a lot more deadly = maybe spiked ends like a venus flytrap that secure themselves to flesh? and have them wrap up Fett pretty good after he falls into the sand and drag him into the pit? That might be a more viable and realistic re-edit with some minor new shots needed from a Fett costumer and someone dressed in black like Luke who can whirl around to strike his backpack.

Less is always more sometimes.

Ady and All -

I concur with the suggestion of showcasing the shield effect ala Rogue One when the X-wing crashes into the Field Aperture. Since the shield is invisible to the naked eye, we only see evidence of it in blue when a ship smacks into it - which we should see when Lando tells “all craft to pull up”.

YES to replacing all the bad matte paintings in the hangar of Home One with models. Given what you did in the rebel hangar on Hoth - I can only pant in anticipation what we are going to see in that Revisited set of shots. I LOVE the idea of using the Cargo shuttle from Rogue One for ROTJ:R for the rebel commando crew.

One suggestion is that since Dave Filoni confirms that Captain Rex is the White bearded old rebel guy at the bunker, I wonder if there is a way to get an audio comm announcement in the rebel hangar bay for him to report to the shuttle ala the line in Rogue One for General Sendulla? A little fanboy service, yes… but fitting.

As to a ‘perfect’ Falcon model - have you seen this Perfect Grade baby from Bandai?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073ZRGX6T/

1/72 scale which puts it slightly bigger than the less-than -perfect Fine Molds one.

There have been some great modelers who tricked out the Hasbro Hero Falcon with a lot of aftermarket parts, but the time to do that right is a 6-month to a full year project.

My biggest and most eagerly anticipated ‘fix’ is the destruction of the Executor. Plowing into the Death Star in a mushroom cloud was just too lazy. A-wing into the bridge - okay. But existing footage sucks. I’d hate to reference it but some of the 9-11 footage of the plane zipping into the second tower is a bit more like what one would likely see if a snub fighter plowed into the bridge tower. I’m fine with the Executor plowing into the station, but it needs an extended destruction scene with cascading explosions busting the ship apart until the engines blow and then some decent nuke-ish shockwave ( I did always like the engine explosions in the Empire At War battles). Since Rogue One took Star Destroyer destruction to a whole new level - it will be an interesting task to see what you might storyboard out to give fans and oooh and ahhh over that ship’s end.

For real?!

For real and for schizzle. My younger brother and I paid for 96 admissions and sometimes sit through it twice, so the times we viewed it was more, but I am only counting the paid admissions.

In an effort to avoid redundancy, I cannot add any more salient praise or kudos other than what has already been stated by everyone else, other than to state I was completely and utterly blown away.

Having paid to see ESB in the theater 96 times in 1980, and multiple hundreds of viewings on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray since, I am familiar enough with the original to exclaim that Revisited was like watching it for the first time all over again.

THIS is a TRUE, TRUE Special Edition.

Well done, and thank you Ady.

ANH:R is the ONLY version of the film I will watch.

I am EAGERLY looking forward to having ESB:R being the ONLY version I wish to watch.

And I saw both of them in the theaters when they were released in '77 and '80. Saw ANH on July 3rd 77 and the very first noon showing on May 21st 1980. Been to every first showing since.

Thanks for recreating the look, excitement and hype Ady!

Wow Ady. Just WOW.

That is actually a good bit more frightening than the original puppet.

Brief glimpses of even the face of that creature should achieve a Jaws-like effect of less-is-more - but the glimpses bring the terror and the suspense a lot closer to feels.

Like I said - I remember jumping out of my seat with the rest of the audience on May 21, 1980 when Tippet’s puppet popped up.

If these ideas work, then i can just replace those two shots and keep the original puppet ones at the beginning. I’ve been modifying the face slightly ( repainting the horns to be the lighter grey on the puppet along with the end of the one horn being chipped off) and i will be doing some tests over the weekend, If it works, then i can finish the dirtying up and adding the wax ice on the fur and shoot the thing towards the end of next week. If it doesn’t then i can just get everything rendered out and release it. It’s still a very long shot that this might work, so don’t get your hopes up.

Yes! Yes! As someone who saw ESB on the first showing on the first day of release in 1980 - I can say unequivocally that I have no problem with the Tippet Puppet whatsoever, it even made us jump out of our seats on first viewing. IMHO it works well so no need to replace it. Marrying those two later cave shots (which never did look that great) with the puppet would be spectacular and I wish you all the speed and luck to your talent that you can muster to pull it off.

You will find a way if possible. And if not, then it will still be terrific to be the way it was back in '80.

But if you do manage to get even the head to work, replacing this shot with the head moving between the ice pillars would be brilliant.

I do agree that some of the added shots in the SE are too much “in your face”.

I do believe that the one SE shot that should be left in is the shot after it’s arm gets cut off.

Not necessarily. If you wanted to see the Wampa after Luke cuts it’s arm off, it would be just as effective for Ady to grab a quick shot of the new Wampa tossing it’s head back to yell in pain. The full-on shot from the SE always bothered me and is not going to match the look that Ady achieved to match the original.

The logistical problem would be that the attack takes place inside the ice cave so a low camera angle would have to showcase a white ice ceiling above and behind the Wampa.

But a quick shot of the guttural cry of the beast opening his maw to yelp in pain would be enough.

or, it could remain as the original was with Luke turning to run out of the cave after the arm hits the ground and only Luke’s reaction to the monster he just de-limbed.

I guess we will find out in just a few weeks’ time.

Hello!
First time poster. I’ve lurked around on and off for a little while but just now felt compelled to post something. I’ve followed Adywan’s Wordpress and have read through a lot of the more recent posts in the ESB:Revisted thread but have not read through all 1300+ pages so please forgive any ignorance on my part.

From reading Adywan’s blog I have an idea of his views on the PT in relation to the OT but I am not sure where he stands on Rogue One or if it fits within his Saga. That being said, I saw on his blog one of the planned changes for ROTJ is swapping out the T-4a Lambda class shuttle Tydyrium with another class of shuttle. I’d assumed up until Rogue One that the Sentinel Class landing craft would probably be the most logical replacement, but now that Rogue One is a thing, I really like the idea of using the Zeta Class Cargo Shuttle from the film. It would help alleviate the annoyance of the the introduction of a new class of vehical never seen again and also meet one of the goals of the edit.

I can definitely second and get behind that idea given that they have indeed already been introduced as a cargo and a troop transport and Han does tell Piett on the Executor that they are carrying “parts and technical crew for the Forest Moon”.

So does this mean you got the wampa to work if so i really can’t wait for june 😃

No. No Wampa. Like the mechanical shark in Jaws, Ady could not get the Wampa to work. So, taking a cue from Spielberg, Adywan has decided that less is more. There will be an augmented white blur that knocks Luke off his Tauntaun, and the suspense of not knowing or seeing whatever malevolent force is lurking out there in the snow will enhance the entire experience. In the cave sequence, shadows will cover the threat approaching Luke’s hanging form in the cave with some of Williams’ academy award-winning theme from two years earlier intermixed with the Force theme to build the tension. As the shadows grow closer with audible growls of the unseen creature approaching, Luke cuts himself free and swings the saber and we are left with that single furry white arm falling cauterized to the snowy floor - leaving us to our frightened imaginations of just what it was that attacked Luke.

Hi Ady,

To save our good friend jedimasterobiwan the trouble of asking, can I please check whereabouts in ESB Revisited the fabulous new nugget will feature? I hope I’m not ruffling any feathers, but will it be in a new eggciting scene with Princess Layer? Or perhaps in the cock-pit of Hen Solo’s Millhennium Falcon? Or maybe in a scene where Lando keeps his capon?

At any rate, wherever you add it, I’ve long admired your pluck with this project and know you’ll do your very breast. And as an added bonus, being just a nugget hopefully you didn’t have to shell out more than a poultry sum and can quickly re-coop your outlay, as I know you have a very busy rooster of things planned for ROJR, which won’t come cheep.

I know you’re stuffing this edit with things you might not want to crow about, but how did you hatch the plan to add the nugget? Did someone give you a leg up, or did you just wing it? If one of your ideas proves to be fowl, do you just peck yourself up and start all over again? The best laid plans and all that…

Anyway, I’m really eggstatic about this edit as it looks clucking great!

That was without question… a MASTERFUL traipse of fun in the pun!

Pink or red doesn’t really matter. They’re engines, the colors don’t mean anything.

The Death Star graphics though is something I’m worried about. It was a simple mistake in the original. Rogue One using the same graphics was their way of fixing the mistake - same as adywan in ANHR - by making it seem like it was intentional. But it still makes little sense, and requires a bullshit explanation outside of the film to explain why it’s that way (the hard drive has every version of the plans I guess?). Even with that silly explanation, it doesn’t make any sense at all for the Rebels to be using and showing out of date plans when they’re planning their attack. I think you can still keep continuity with RO and still fix the plans (in RO we see early versions of the plans and in ANH we see the current plans). To use the old graphics for the briefing scene is a huge misstep, I think.

I concur with this assessment. For continuity with the excellent work he has done with Revisited in bridging the gap between the prequel graphics and the OT - I would hope he keeps the graphics he used for ANH-R, and perhaps change them in R1 to match. I mean if you look at the marketing posters for R1, the schematics for the Death Star are almost a dead ringer for the DS graphics Ady used in the Briefing Room scene.

Unless the dot matrix equator dish schematic serves as a kind of animated gif tag that identifies the Stardust file. R1 did not showcase any other graphics, not the wireframe trench or anything else. Maybe that equator dish graphic can serve as an identifier of the file, like an icon rather than the schematics themselves.

It’s also a bit late to consider now, but Bandai is releasing a stunning accurate ESB Scout Walker model kit for the 40th anniversary along with the most detailed AT-AT I have seen sold at retail. The AT-AT will even feature moveable legs, joints and guns, both side and chin guns. Someone postulated that it was engineered for doing go-motion/stop motion movies at home on an iPhone.

I peed me kilt a little seeing that.

I cannot WAIT until you finally get this finished. It will end up being the highlight of my year to finally see it all put together and adding it into the library alongside the S.E’s that I will probably never watch again.
