Let's talk about Chewbacca
Time

Ah chewie, what a great iconic character!  Ive always appreciated his loyalty and friendship to han solo and his skills as a pilot, mechanic and warrior.  I would've loved to have seen the notorious wookie temper in the prequals with chewy pulling arms out of sockets, like han describes in ANH.  As hairy as he is, I bet he has an ongoing problem with dingleberries.

Does it depress you...
Time

Yeah it does depress me.  Im not sure what motivates a person like george lucas to screw us innocent OOT fans over.  Its depressing for me to know that the mega-rich and priviledged george lucas chooses to deny a fan base the beloved trilogy they're starved for, fans that poured money into his franchise by the millions through various merchandise purchases, and in return act like a self-entitled, thankless, ungrateful, greedy asshole.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Well i see last weekend the SW SE's were aired on SpikeTV for the billionth time.  Nothing like ol' georgy boy trying to shove those garbage editions down people's throats before the bluray releases thus trying to get people to forget about  the OOTs'.

As for LFL's future rereleases, what's their pitch going to be now?

LFL: "From the creative mind of george lucas,  its the original SW trilogy!  Sit back and enjoy these classics movies with enhanced effects, now with 40% more womp-rats!"

Voltron
Time

Been spending my time off watching my Voltron DVD's!  My favorite was the vehicle Voltron and i bought all 3 of its seasons on DVD, and the finale movie featuring both lion and vehicle voltrons in a team up.  I havent seen vehicle voltron for 25 years, since I was in grade school and its cool to finally relive the series.  Anybody here like Voltron?  Which was your favorite, lion or vehicle?

Star Wars could have been a modern day Iliad.
Time

Agreed.  In addition, had Luca$ decided to take on a limited role and let talented creators/storytellers who are passionate about SW make adjustments and improvements to his scripts, then there's the possibility that he could've become richer.  With the adjustment of inflation, the OOT left the PT in the dust.  The approximate ticket sales of the OOT is astronomical compared to the PT.  Even though SW merchandise sells well presently, it could've broken sales records had the PT been on par with the OOT  And had the ticket sales mirrored the OOT, the PT movies could've been the undisputed #1 of all time at the box office. And thus lil' georgie could've been richer

Yeah, Im still VERY bummed over the careless mishandling of the PT storyline.  So much potential wasted, what could've and should've been.  Little did I know back then of the collaborative process that was truly responsible for the OOT success, and not just Luca$.  I agree that the PT could have been modern day Iliad, had the creative potential developed.

Favorite star wars child hood memories not related to the films
Time

I would go back to the 80's too Hal!  what a time to grow up!  I also loved the saturday morning cartoons back then.  I cherished the SW commercials featuring new action figures, playsets and ships, in the midst of watching Thundarr the barbarian, looney tunes, D & D, pacman, johnny quest etc!

Hey Hal I was also a huge Transformer/GIJOE fan, and still am.  I would race home from school back then in order to catch the cartoons, along with Voltron and HE-MAN!

I didnt have one of those giant yellow/red toy lightsabers, but my friends did and we had some fun duels!  We would end up whacking each others' back and butt and I'd have some bruises the next day!  Great fun!  I do remember them breaking easily too.

I loved it when would snow heavy enough for school to be cancelled.  I loved building mini-snow bases and having my own hoth battles!  My snowspeeder got too much snow  in the battery compartment and stopped working!  My friend would bring over his AT-AT!

YO Hal!  Chuck e cheeses and aladdins castle back in the 80's, RULED!  I had b-day parties at both.  did ur town have a showbiz pizza place?  Mine did and had parties there as well. It was just like chuck e cheeses.  80's CEC, unlike todays', had tons of video games!

love the b-day cake bkev!  My mom bought a darth vader cake mold for one of my b-day's and an R2D2 for another.  She spent a lot of time frosting them and getting the colors accurate, and the cake would be ready by the time I got out of school!  back in 77' after the movie was released and my SW craze commenced, I received that following Christmas: han,leia,3po,r2d2,luke,kenobi,strmtrooper,chewy and vader figures along with the x-wing, mini tiefighter and the landspeeder.  After that all I talked about was SW and my parents ceased buying me any more toys, LOL!  So if I wanted to buy anymore toys, I had to buy them myself which was a good life lesson.  I absolutely loved saving up enough money for additional figures and ships and relished in anticipation  the car trip or bike ride to Kmart, Walmart, service merchandise or Venture.  One of my fondest purchases was the full size y-wing, admiral ackbar and boush the bounty hunter at Kmart on a saturday night. I saved up lawnmowing money for several months to get them!  Another memory is having friends bring over their SW toys for a sleepover and we would combine our forces for a huge battle till the wee hours!

How many of you watch the Clone Wars series regularly and what do you think of it?
Time

Ive watched bits n pieces of several episodes, but quickly change the channel due to excessive silliness.  I think the series is shit and just a continuation of PT garbage.  The inclusion of jar-jerk is just more of Luca$ giving PT opponents(like me) the middle finger.  All in all I dont like SW being reduced to a silly simple minded cartoon just so Luca$ can continue cashing in on his manic merchandise crusade.

Can the story of the prequels be fit into only three films?
Time

yes! the story of the prequals CAN be fit into 3 films.  It goes as:

Ep I- parts 1 & 2

Ep II - parts 1 & 2

Ep III parts 1 & 2

ie: HP:deathly hallows, and the upcoming hobbit 2 parter.  Of course it has to be done with a writer/'director who can pour his heart and soul into it and actually gives a damn about quality, story, and performance and not just $$$$ from merchandise. There was plenty of time to carve out a storyline for something of this size between 1983 and 1997(or whenever shooting for EP1 started).  Each part could be 2hr30min long.  I think fans would love it, I know I would. I think the time alotted would be enough for tons of entertaining, useful, creative ideas other than the tripe we actually got.

Any favorite Star Wars scenes?
Time

For me its:

ANH:  When obiwan makes his intro and pulls down his hood to say "hello there" to R2. Coupled with the harp chord by john williams, its one of my favs.  Another is the cantina intro. and lastly, the x-wing, y-wing attack on the DS!

ESB:  I love the transport evac of hoth, where the ion cannon fires, temporarily disabling a star destroyer, then its announced in the action packed hangar, "the first transport is away"...."hooray!" I also love dagobah and yoda's explanation of the force, and the interaction between luke and yoda.  and lastly, the vader/luke duel, round 1.

ROTJ:  I love the space battle and the throne room duel.
