I'm gonna go against the grain here and say the overall stories of the prequels weren't that bad. Lucas's general ideas were good as first drafts, but he just needed some "no men" to come in and fine-tune things.

I just don't see how is making the main character one of the most annoying and repulsive characters in film history a good idea. No matter what you build on that idea, it won't make it good.

Yes but it's the fine detail of the dialogue that makes him annoying, not the concept. There is nothing inherently annoying about Anakin racing pods. It's just he should have been a dashing young (Late teen?) Ayrton Senna type podracer, instead of a 9 year old doofus.

It is not the Ep1 Anakin I was particularly targeting with my argument. I was mainly talking about him in Ep2 and Ep3 where he constantly complains, he is ungrateful, he is a hypocrite (says "You're the closest thing I have to a father" to Obi-Wan's face and then a few moments later he talks shit about him behind his back) and he whines all the time (I mean he even whines in love scenes which is just unbelievable). If these kind of scenes are written, there are no dialogue corrections that will make them good.

Again those ^ are detailed dialogue issues, not concept problems. I and other editors have fixed all the issues that you highlight^. In fact your paragraph could be quoted to descibe how I've remade Anakin in my edits! lol. e.g. the 2 times that Anakin says...

"You're the closest thing I have to a father"

...have been removed from my cut. Also the romantic scenes have been drastically recut or removed entirely to make Anakin and Padme's relationship fluid and believable.

The two scenes in particular that had me biting my fist with Anakin (there are countess others) were in episode II where he questions ObiWan about protecting Padme and where he questions Padme in the scene in the palace on Naboo. Utterly awful acting and script. My soul was crying in the cinema.

6. The army of the republic being human conscripts.

Oh and yes, I get a headache when I see clone troopers. I think clone troopers are boring and stupid concept. I just wouldn't want any kind of clone armies. Clone Wars should only get the name after some incident involving cloning.

Absolutely. No need for armies of clones against totally irrelevant, inept droids. Make the clones nasty, tough, ruthless pieces of work who act like terrorist splinter cells.

Seeing as though this is being discussed, I will bullet point what I wanted from the PT and thought would've made it a far more engaging story.

1. Adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ben is a swashbuckling, charismatic rogue type Jedi who is the latest to have been trained by Yoda.

2. Anakin as an old teenager Ben encounters on Correlia who displays brilliant piloting skills helping him out of a scrape whilst on an adventure. (Force skills)

3. Jedi Order far more reclusive and no where near as dogmatic. Also numbering no more than 20.

4. Love triangle between Ben, Anakin, Padme.

5. Clones as Enemies of the Republic from the start. Also, they're clones of extinct evil alien races thought to have been long gone. Not Boba fetts dad (Boba doesn't appear at all)

6. The army of the republic being human conscripts.

7. Palpatine as a conspiring member of the military/Sith Lord.

8. No droids (3PO and R2) protocol droids and R2 units are present here and there but not those 2 until episode III where they are seen on Alderaan.

9. Palpatines secret apprentice being the villain throughout the trilogy who is killed by Anakin in episode III.

therell be those who think its a load of crap, but I think the basics for a far more engaging trilogy are there.

Agree with you Ryan. Personally, I would have liked to have seen the PT be 'The Adventures of Obi Wan Kenobi' and Anakin as a background character who slowly comes to prominence as the trilogy progressed. The romance should've been a love triangle between Obi Wan, Anakin and Padme, and..I'll stop there because I can feel all the old disappointments and bad memories rising to the surface lol

I, for one, will never own any version of 'that' trilogy so long as I draw breath. They're an absolute train wreck. No amount of editing can redeem it. None. ;)

Interested to know. What is the single worst thing (Or things) for you about the PT?

Read my signature.

Read

1. The whole idea and vision of Vaders backstory.

Free speech officially died today here in the UK. RIP. 26/06/13

Your objection doesn't seem to be the abridgement of free speech, but instead that it wasn't abridged enough

People who try to bring the truth to light about this and offer their opinions are being roundly derided with no basis of a coherent argument other than they are racists and bigots by a corrupt, fascist, liberal regime. Freedom of speech? It was once a profoundly liberal mandate if I remember correctly? Oh the irony. ;(

Well, off the top of my head ill give you three Ryan.

1. Lucas's whole idea and vision of Vaders and Obi Wans backstory

2. The shameless shoehorning of OT characters (3PO, R2, Chewy)

3. The dreadful continuity between it and the OT.

...being a Star Wars fan is the act of waiting for technology to finally get to the point where the PT can be unwatched.

Somewhat ironic that this will eventually happen using the same digital technology that Lucas pioneered to erase the OT.

Might take Adywan and a few more years for home editing/FX tech to advance but we will get a point where nobody will need (Or want) to ever watch the theatrical PT anymore.

I'm already there, now I've completed my own edits to my satisfaction of the PT.  I can't forsee ever taking the three PT Blu-Rays out of my Saga Boxset ever again.

You've completed your own edits of the PT to your satisfaction? That's very admirable Ryan. I, for one, will never own any version of 'that' trilogy so long as I draw breath. They're an absolute train wreck. No amount of editing can redeem it. None. ;)

Are Muslims really trying to take over, or are some people just suffering from Islamaphobia?

Look if after doing some proper research you nonchalantly think, 'ah it's just a load of scaremongering' then that's fine. I suggest you research Robert Spencer and Douglas Murray before you make that claim though. And if your a lefty/liberal type then leave your pre ordained notions at the door and do so with an open mind. Then, and only then, make that claim. Just saying.
