Man of Steel - Your thoughts
Time

Personally I think that with there being so many Superhero films and remakes about these days, something has to be very special to stand out from the crowd. Superman is the daddy of all superhero films. I loved the Reeves films (well, I and II anyway) so I think for any remake or reimagining of such a character it needs to be different from what's been before. Big set pieces and up to date SFX mean pretty much nothing. They certainly won't be remembered the day after you've seen the film if the story and script weren't  super (sorry the pun) tight and it wasnt intelligently done with endearing characters. Which goes for any film, regardless to it being a fantasy film or not. Recently,  TDK trilogy has been the barometer for superhero films for me, but Superman is an alien so its going to be that much more difficult to make him a grounded character you can actually route for aside the usual, "yeah kick his ass Superman!" The trick is to make the characters around him endearing and believable for it to work.

Greetings from a usually silent Star Wars fan. Read on, if you dare.

The fact Lucas ****ed about with the originals betond '97 is due testament to how mind blowingly s*** the PT was. Like he was attempting to justify his ineptness. If the prequel trilogy had turned out to brilliant, A+, 10 out of 10 then the OT would've been left alone. The SE's had SOME good stuff, mainly minor technical things and updated SFX scenes (NOT Jabbas palace)  but the versions beyond those are unwatchable. If a restored OT with the technical issues resolved and the added extras that made sense and were cool (Falcon escaping from Mos Eisley as an example) to be released? That would be my definitive version. We can only hope in years to come that Disney re-make the PT as it should've been. And f*** canon and f*** TCW series.

I'd imagine most women wouldn't use a urinal but then why would you have one in a unisex toilet?

If you are in a toilet cubicle and a willy watcher pops his head over or under the cubicle you would have as much right to complain as a woman would.

Just the thought of a woman attempting to use a urinal is funny. Certainly liven up the usual habit of, walk in, proceed to urinal furthest from anyone else, ignore stench of someone having a crap, wash hands and fuck off. Lol

What single (Non-SW) movie from the last 30 odd years has come closest to the spirit of Star Wars?... and why?

What I meant was, I had no memory of seeing back in the day. I guess I must have seen it briefly, to want the toys.

^ Did you collect them all?

They practically just rotoscoped over some footage from ANH in this clip (Click the image below to play video):

rotoscoped is putting it mildly! Lol fantastic the old cartoons. The Music, the voice overs. Brilliant

If we're straying into televsion, I should mention the most Star Wars influenced cartoon of the early 80's.

A Revenge of the Jedi poster actually appeared in an episode. (Hey, it was 1982!) I can't help but think the post apocalyptic setting heavily influenced the creators of Adventure Time. Both shows blend magic and technology, and abound with weird mutated creatures.

I was much relieved when the world as we know it didn't end in 1994...

Apparently Jesus is going to write new commandments.

They are as follows:

I . Thou shalt have no poofters.

II . Thou shalt not maltreat the "Abbos" in any way whatsoever—if there's anyone watching.

III . Thou shalt have no poofters.

IV . Thou shalt not drink in thy room after lights out.

V . No poofters.

VI. Thou shalt not have.... a sixth commandment.

VII . Thou shalt have no poofters.

^^uncanny^^ lol. You forgot, Thou shall spill the Blood of thine Pom enemy when Thou is referred to as a Colonial convict

Considering the old Flash Gordon Inspired Lucus to do star wars I think this one deserves a mention

^ Fo sho! Old and new Flash. Super Camp, colour fun. Got alot of key Star Wars ingredients but way more light hearted. Plus the Queen soundtrack still Rocks. I can highly recomended the Blu-Ray, the colours in the image are amazing.

Flash!! Dun dun dun dun ahh ahhhhh!! He saved everyone of us!! Saviour of the universe!! Remember going to see that with my dad and my cousin when it was 1st released at the old ABC in my local town. Reat memories and as you said a terrific soundtrack!

I maybe wrong, but wasnt the Hobbit more a children's story than LOTR? LOTR dealt with more 'adult' issues such as power, corruption and greed albeit in a fantasy setting. Star Wars was unique because you loved it as a kid in a very one dimensional kind of way, and grew to understand the deeper tones of it as you got older. I don't know many (if any) 5-10 year olds that fell in love with LOTR the first time they saw it.
