LOL.
LOL.
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!
I now have 29,097.21CZK, which I just transferred to my bank-account (this will take at least a couple of days) and then I can buy the parts and even throw in better PSU and case!
This is pretty much what my friend told me when I asked him about it in an email today - which is why I had him help me in the first place - he knows his shit :-)
Sounds good, I will definitely consider the GREENs then :-)
Well, the WD RED I chose is 3,180CZK and the WD BLACK is 4,733CZK and while the GREENS are even cheaper than the REDs, I'd rather go for higher performance there - what are the reasons you guys think I shouldn't use the REDs?
AND AGAIN, I THANK EVERYONE FOR THE DONATIONS! We're now up to 26,015.08CZK, so ALMOST THERE!
I have an LG external BD-RW and it seems like a waste to buy an internal one, when even the cheapest ones are still 4 times more expensive than a cheap DVD-RW.
THANK YOU GUYS! I'm currently up to 24,405.28CZK, so almost there! The beauty of a build like this is that I can now build a pretty kick as machine that completely works and then I can always upgrade it, if any more donations come - so I could maybe buy an SSD disc or a GPU later.
And as to beer, I have every intention of spending all the money on the computer, because it's something I'll get much more use from :-) At most, if there is some money left over after I got the parts, I will buy some more blank BDs for testing and backup and I was thinking possibly a very cheap small monitor, just to be able to have a two monitor setup, with all the tools on the small monitor and only the movie showing on the the big one I have now - that would be pretty kick-ass since it would allow me to see the full picture with full detail all at once as I'm working on it.
Right now, I'm about $200 short for the current setup, if I'm counting correctly.
Actually, we looked at the case last and we didn't really have much time to pick it, so because we were already over budget, we went for a cheap one, but I will likely look around more on that. As to the PSU, I will also definitely take that under advisement, thank you :-)
Don't think I haven't considered an ssd, but in the end I decided against it, because ssds have very limited rewrite capacity, so for the kind of work I do, an ssd couldn't really be used and my friend has one and showed me how fast his compiter boots and it really isn't enough of an improvement over a normal hdd for it to be worth for me buying a 256GB ssd instead of a 3TB hdd (more or less the same price range and still much faster than my current setup, of one laptop hdd, which is slow as far as internal hdds go, one usb3 hdd, and 3 usb 2s, two of which are very old and therefore unreliable, which means, I'll also need the capacity to back up the data from them).
As to the gpu, this cpu has a powerful enough gpu integrated for what I need and most video editing programs don't use gpu at all or to a very limited capacity and I don't really play games, so it would be a very large, and ultimatelly unnecesary, extra investment to buy a dedicated gpu noticeably more powerful than the one integrated in this cpu.
And as to dropping half the ram in favor of anything else, that is out of the question - large and fast ram is absolutelly esential for advanced video editing.
I'm by no means knocking what you guys are saying and I asked for your opinions and I'm grateful for them, but just know that I really thought this through. It would be nice to add more things but even as it is now I exceeded my original budget quite a bit, so I have to go with what I'll have the most use for.
Thank you! I'm now up to 22,998.96CZK! That means I could almost buy the components without one of the HDDs.
Again, THANKS SO MUCH to everyone who contributed!
OK, so me and my friend stayed up all night looking at different components and this is what we settled on:
GIGABYTE GA-Z87-D3HP - Intel Z87
2x WD Red - 3TB |
Enermax NAXN 82+ ADV ETL550AWT 550W
EuroCase ML 301, ?erná/st?íbrná
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium CZ 64bit OEM
The price of these components (and Windows, which is quite expensive as well) combined is around 27000CZK - I currently have 21,084.20CZK, so that's still quite a bit short for this combo. I looked and you can't really buy these components much cheaper than this here and if you go for cheaper components, you also go for much lower performance. You'll also notice the absence of a dedicated GPU - I decided to go that way in favor of a more powerful CPU, which is much more important for video work. If I wanted to lower the price, I guess I could do with just one HDD but having two would be beneficial for rendering and encoding and I'd still be a bit short (and smaller HDDs wouldn't come much cheaper if I don't want to buy Seagate).
So, what do you guys think?
Well, like I said, if I wanted a pro-grade monitor, I think 1000USD would be the starting price for just the monitor.
And I will definitely be building the machine myself, I only posted that HP one as an example of the kind of computer I had in mind.
Anyways, I'm up to 18,756.53CZK, so my original goal is almost reached - I should be meeting with my friend tomorrow and we'll be looking into what we can buy for however much I'll have by then. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!
If anyone still really wants to donate, I can always use an upgrade for more HDD space (especially if future projects may be done in 1080p and thinking waaay ahead, possibly even 4K).
Well, like I said, this one costs 39000CZK, which is pretty damn steep but I may consider buying a complete machine.
@AntcuFaalb: Well, I should be meeting to discuss the computer with my friend on Friday or over the weekend, so I'll have more detailed info then - Right now, I know I had something like this in mind, which costs around $2000 here, but if I built it myself, it would probably come much cheaper, plus I probably wouldn't need such a powerful graphics card and I wouldn't need a Blu-Ray drive (I already have an external one) and I definitely wouldn't need the designer case.
Wow, this is going faster than I expected. Current balance 14,696.37CZK. ALMOST THERE! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!
Thank again to everyone who donated - we're currently up to 4384CZK!!!
I hope this will get fixed soon :-(
I think the clank was there in all the mixes, only in the SE they made it louder.
THANKS SO MUCH to everyone who already donated - so far, my balance is 2,456.55 CZK (something like $120), so after just one day, we're more than 1/10 of the way there! THANK YOU!
Actually, like I said, I already have a decent 1080p monitor, which cost around $250 about a year and a half ago - if I wanted to replace it with a really good monitor, I think I'd need at least the $1000 for only the monitor itself, so no, the monitor is actually not factored in. If I can build a powerful enough machine for less money, I'd of course be glad to do so, though buying used parts is quite a bit of a risk, so I'm not sure I'd want to go that way. My friend only looked into it and said that as a very rough estimate, since at the time, it was only a remote possibility - I will consult it in more detail soon.
I don't have a desktop PC, so no, I need to build it from scratch. I do already have a monitor though. But it's also one thing for the computer to handle multiple layers of video when color correcting and quite another when using more complicated tools, like for example the roto-brush, or warp stabilizer and such. You say you have 6GB of RAM - I have 8GB in my laptop and most of the time it's barely enough. Plus a powerful CPU and a fast HDD (all my HDDs, except for the fairly small system one, are currently running through USB and only one of them through USB3) can really speed up the rendering and encoding, which would be great.
Well, I've had to make due with what I have for quite a while, so I can wait. I'm not setting any time limit, I'll simply announce the end of donations when I have enough money to buy the computer (including any money I might be able to save for it myself in the meantime).
No worries at all, I seriously wouldn't want anyone to give more than they can easily spare.
I'm not quite sure how it works. I'm quite new to these things.
EDIT: I see I can add currencies in my paypal account, so I added CZK, USD, GBP, Euro, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Japanese Yen, Russian Ruble and Polish Zloty. I'm not sure what it would do if someone sent me something in a different currency.
