Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

OK, I kept hesitating to do this but here goes: I really hoped that by now I'd be able to afford a new desktop PC that could handle video editing and rendering much more easily than my current laptop but what with moving to and furnishing a new flat and my part-time job not paying very well, I seem as far from being able to afford a new computer as ever.

I started doing some basic editing on the DeEd v2.5 bonus docs and it's a total pain in the ass, plus with this computer, I keep getting these weird rendering errors that you can see plenty of in the ESB v2.0 reel 1 workprint, so I decided that, even though I'm not very happy doing it, because it makes me feel like a beggar, I will ask for donations towards a new computer - I had a friend who knows this stuff look into it and he says that for the kind of hardware I need, I'd need around 20000CZK, which is around $1000, so that will be my goal.

My paypal address is harmypaypal@email.cz and I'd like everyone who contributes to put in the name by which they'd like to appear in the credits of all upcoming Despecialized Edition releases, including the SW v2.5 Blu-Ray and bonus disc.

Thank you,

Harmy.

Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes

This is a great article, which TServo2049 just posted in another thread. It's about the advances in optical compositing made by ILM for the SW Trilogy - it is perfect to illustrate the point I was always trying to make about how digital recompositing destroys the artistic integrity of the FX shots, even if it uses the same elements, because the method and quality of the optical compositing was a huge part of the original effects.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

I personally don't give a crap about what is and isn't canon. For example, the Sherlock Holmes stories are not exactly canonical, yet it makes no difference to my enjoyment of them.

And as for Star Wars, I for example love the Thrawn Trilogy but if Ep7 doesn't take it as canon, it's not going to do anything to my enjoyment of those books and, if it's any good, of the movie either.

The video stream will be exactly the same as the MKV, so I'm definitely sticking with v2.5.

I don't see any reason for confusion (or additional confusion - there will be questions like "what's the difference between the MKV and the BD" either way). It will be the BD release of v2.5, and the v2.5 MKV is kind of like an iTunes or Netflix release - they are not different versions of the film, just different release formats.
