Yeah, I don't know, they don't look jittery at all to me.
Yeah, I don't know, they don't look jittery at all to me.
My assumption is, that the tint was introduced to the original release in the grading process and isn't on the negative and then the GOUT was scanned from an IP, which was made later and to which, the same grading choices weren't applied in this scene.
And what do you mean about the speeders?
Well, of course I thought about stabilizing the GOUT automatically but you can't really do that if the camera is moving. And yes, the moire is pretty bad and you can't remove completely it without loosing too much detail and sharpness - plus there's all this ugly color fluctuation in those high contrast areas, which makes it really hard to match it to the BD footage and on top of all that you get the DVNR smearing, so I really am not too happy with those shots - but they do look a lot better than in v1.0, which is quite something, considering that exactly the same sources were used.
As to the cloud car though, that is from a 35mm scan (which I though was pretty obvious in that comparison) and looks exactly like it's supposed to - it was always a bit transparent.

This and Puggo's version confirm this very clearly, because PSB is very orange in this sequence, while the whole transfer is actually biased towards the opposite side of the spectrum, so the orange here must have been pretty strong.
I wanted the JSC footage to see if I could replace some of the DNR-heavy elements of the GOUT with it, but unfortunately, it has too much analog noise and too little detail to be of any use. But it confirms this color palette as well.
Thanks for the Spleen upload :)
@digitalfreaknyc: Yeah, probably.
@Baronlando: I kind of doubt that with true 35mm restorations in the works but thanks anyway :-)
Well, you know, Han never shoots first of course and you can't very well shoot a lightsaber :-)
BTW, did you notice the radar dish in the shot I was telling you about? I managed to fix it :-) The shot's still not perfect of course but it is now much less wonky :-)
I'll be glad if someone shares the AVCHD on the spleen btw.
OK, here are the new shots in movement - not quite 100% final but at least I finally managed to get them to a stage where I deem them presentable :-)

Right now it's only on tehparadox. I don't know if someone'll upload it somewhere else.
Can't wait for this to hit the spleen.

So where is the usual place that this is posted? I know I should probably just be patient and wait for it to come on the Spleen or UseNet but I've been waiting for this for a long time and I'm just so excited for it!
See the very first post.
The first post helps us find the 37-segment, 18-GB MKV file. I'm looking for the DVD9 ISO of the AVCHD version 2.5 mentioned in post 11877. Any hints available?
1st post. 1st line under the picture.
Oh, yeah, I didn't end up doing that actually - I'm hoping however, that ROTJ v2.0 should be the easiest, as I should be able to use most of v1.0s shots.
OK, here you go:
OK, hang on, I post a more illustrative image in a minute.
Ady, I just remembered, when redoing this matte, did you fix the compositing error from the SE, where the outline of the Falcon's underside, where the ramp is attached in the SE, is discontinued and has a step in it - and the same thing on the other side?
I noticed, while despecializing this shot, that the compositing of the painting is also wrong (notice the discontinued outline of the Falcon's underside, where the ramp is attached in the SE - and the same thing on the other side):
Could someone who has some decent transfer of the JSC please extract the scene where the Falcon comes to cloud city (from the wipe from Luke up to the point when the land) and then the shot, where they added the window just before Lando opens the door and reveals Vader, and upload it for me somewhere Thanks!
Yeah, it's there, only there it's only a 224Kbps AC3.
OK, I don't have much for you guys for May the 4th but some of you will be pleased to hear that v2.5 is now available as a DVD9 AVCHD (to be found at the usual place).
Here's the NFO:
The AVCHD version contains the latest versions of the preservations
of the original audio mixes (the original 70mm six-track was recreated by hairy_hen, the original stereo mix was captured from
LaserDisc PCM and fixed up by hairy_hen and the original mono mix was restored by Belbucus from a VHS recording), an isolated
score (also hairy_hen's latest version) and four different commentary tracks.

The ISO image can be burned to a DVD-DL and should work in most Blu-Ray players.
To burn, you can use image burn following thse instructions: http://onlineitpro.com/?p=181

Well, I can actually see little to no difference myself, as apparently can Adywan, who also used the same picture to prove the same point. So maybe it's you :-)
My whole workflow has been in 720p, including all the sources, so doing 1080p would mean starting completely from scratch.
Another good reason for staying with 720p, besides those already stated, is compression - to keep the same quality, the releases would have to become impractically large.
I should also mention, that the loss in detail in v1.0s was for the most part due to compression artifacts, which however weren't caused as much by the relatively low bitrate, as by me using Power Director for the editing, which had very limited encoding options and couldn't do lossless encoding. So even the DVD9 version of v2.0 will be far more detailed than v1.0, as can be seen in the last workprint, which was encoded with the same settings as the AVCHD version will be.
Yeah, I'll definitelly be trying that - can't guarantee the results though.
The screenshots are from the separate finished shots, not from the edit, so the colors aren't final.
Like I said, I could use more RAM, so if you want, my paypal is harmypaypal@email.cz
THANKS GUYS!
