Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

The software I'd need would cost more then the new computer did and frankly, for the use I'd get out of it, it wouldn't be worth the money.

Other than that though, I found I could still use more RAM, so that I could use my CPU to its full potential, so if someone wanted to donate towards that, it would be pretty awesome.

Images you posted (dont see any more) look great too. Did you scan new mattes for those Bespin shots, or were those just from better dvd/film stock somewhere?

Sorry, I originally posted in the wrong thread. It belonged here.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

OK, here are some new pictures from ESB v2.0 - don't expect miracles, becuase with the exception of pictures number 2, 6 and 7, for which I was able to obtain 35mm sources or matte painting scans, all I had was the GOUT, so I'm pretty much just repeating the same process as in v1.0, only hopefully with slightly better results:

The folder also includes a couple of pics of my current working setup :-)

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Well, it does sound dubious but why would they say it, if it was bull-crap? It says so, even in their official program here: http://www.slsc.org/may-2014-first-friday-star-wars

And it's pretty emphasized that it's the '77 unaltered version.

I really hope they're not planning on projecting the GOUT on the giant screen :D

Actually, in my experience, the two biggest problems I encountered when trying to dig out detail from the dark areas in ESB weren't about compression at all - first is that there is very little additional detail that can be dug out (there seems to be more hidden detail in the SW BD's blacks than in ESB) and second is frozen grain from the Lowry cleanup - it's not always there but there are some scenes, where it's pretty bad and it gets more visible when you brighten the image.

Nice job. Just a note to the blown out whites - while there are some problematic shots in that area (such as the screenshot above of the rebel soldiers - in v2.1, I used information from the BD's red channel to restore the detail there), the whites in the 2004 transfer are actually pretty underexposed - this is why the whole '04 transfer is so dim - they tried to keep the whites from overexposure but as a result, you get a dim transfer with crushed blacks. And the combined screenshot does look pretty dim to me.

Yes and the MKV is out there already, so everyone can get it if they want, which is why I'm in no hurry to finish the BD and am waiting 'till I can get it right for those who want the "retail experience" ;-)

And not all BD players can play MKVs and for example mine only shows the first ten soundtracks in the v2.5 mkv. Also, I don't know if it's just a feeling, because it's impossible to do a direct comparison, but when I play the MKV through my BD player, the upscaling is kind of crappy and I get these aliasing artifacts, which are most visible on the crawl but can be seen elsewhere as well, but when I used TS Muxer to create a simple Blu Ray disc, the artifacts didn't seem to be there.

@ michaeldc: This would definitely work but the problem is, that the limit in all the programs I could get my hands on was 6-8 tracks, not 16. But I asked around and I might actually get access to a computer with pro-level authoring software through school, so I'm holding out for that. Another thing is that I've never done BD authoring before and it seems far more complicated than what I've done with DVD (and even that was quite difficult for me) - I'll give it my best shot but the ideal situation would be if someone with access to the necessary software and the skill to do it, would be willing to turn my designs into reality for me.

@AK-47 - I believe that that info applies to v2.0 - I hope I remember correctly, but I think that in v2.5, all the tracks are fine.

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

For me, this pretty much changes nothing - I won't enjoy the Trawn Trilogy any less, just because it now isn't officially a part of the same canon as stuff like the prequels. I may feel differently if the new movies come out, contradicting the EU I actually like and I end up liking the new films as well, but I still think I'll be able to enjoy those books as separate stories, even if that's the case.

But he never said your OPINION was invalid!!! He said the arguments you used to support that opinion were invalid and I agree.

Oh, and I certainly hope the original trilogy won't get a remaster like LOTR FOTR, because we've already had two releases of Star Wars with completely f*cked up colors ;-)

My point stands on its own, the edge of the window frame in the top left corner of the first uncropped screencap where all four characters are visible from the front is there for all to see, making the shot look like a set, breaking the fourth wall.

Its not something you can argue about, either its an issue for you or not. It is for me, as it was for GL.

OK, I was going to stay away from this argument but I just can't, because you apparently don't get it from words and need a visual aid - if the 4th wall is broken because you can see the edge of the window, then it was broken in Star Wars as well:

And you're right that it isn't something to argue about whether you can see the window frame or not. And that you can see the frame in both SW and ESB also isn't something to argue about, which is why it is a FACT, which is what Ady has been saying the whole time.

Whether seeing the frame breaks the 4th wall or not is however definitely something to argue about, since you (and some others) seem to think so and I (and some others) don't, which is why that is a matter of opinion.
