How did you first see the Star Wars films?
Time

I first saw the original Star Wars film on TV, when I was like 5 I think (I do remember the trench run scene very vividly from that 1st viewing) so that must have been in like '93 or '94 and then I haven't seen any Star Wars until I saw ESB and ROTJ SE on VHS in '97 or '98.

I saw the prequels in the cinema (actually for ROTS, I first saw the time-coded bootleg at a friend's house and then I went to see it at a midnight show during my trip to England that summer and I fell asleep).

Why I dislike Adywans Star Wars revisted
Time

I personally don't like ANH:R much either, because for my taste it takes too many liberties and I outright dislike some of the specific changes but I don't see it as a problem - the man made that edit to adhere to his personal taste and it's entirely up to you, whether you want to watch Star Wars this way or not. I love having alternate versions of movies and I don't see any problem with modernizing an old film, as long as you have a choice between watching the modernized version or the original.

I am actually very much looking forward to ESB Revisited, because it seems that this time, Ady is really sticking to the original cut and only updating the effects and the look of the film and it will be a great alternate version of that classic movie - and the word alternate is key here - it won't become the only version of the movie for me, only an interesting alternative and that's awesome. I believe, that if the Special Editions were always just an alternative version, with the original getting the same treatment, I would actually enjoy it as an interesting alternative too - I would still consider it an inferior version but at the same time a cool alternative - you never hear anyone complain about James Cameron making extended versions of Aliens or T2, because the originals are available in the same quality.

As another example, I prefer the original version of Blade Runner (I like the original effects, I like the noir narration, I even like the happy ending) but I would never dream of complaining about Ridley Scott having made the Final Cut, because why would I?

If someone does the sync, then can you make 97 versions for ESB & ROTJ?

Yes.

Also, could you please make covers for the individual releases and the trilogy 97 set, like you did with the Despecialized edition?

Maybe.

Also, are you ever going to do the 2004 and/or the 2011 versions?

What?

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Great, thanks.

BTW. I'm not doing the narration. Mavimao recorded it for me. That is why it's not that easy to change it now and also, why it sounds so much better. The only time you hear my voice in this is when I'm speaking at the end (I never thought of it as an interview, just me giving the viewer my thoughts in spoken word, instead of text). And I think you can hear, that the way my narration sounds in the Sources Doc is not how I normally speak - I was just trying to enunciate super carefully to make sure it's easy to understand even for non-native speakers and I guess I went a little over-board with it.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

OK, let me start by saying, that I have had the scripts for this documentary checked and "approved" by at least ten members here, like half a year ago and they are staying the way they are. But there are seven parts planned altogether, this is just the introduction and you'll notice, that it's called Introducing the Despecialized Edition, not introducing Fan Preservations - so the preservations I chose to talk about here are those, which are relevant to what I'm talking about at the moment - I mention LD preservations, because I use that to lead up to talking about the GOUT, which is itself basically just a LD preservation and then I mention the preservations made from the GOUT and those combining different sources, because it leads up to the DeEd - at that time, there were no 35mm preservations - it may have been good to mention Puggo Grande but I talk about it in the later part and it isn't important for the story being told in this part - it all has internal logic :-)

Some of the other stuff you mention will be addressed in the other parts. The parts will be as follows:

- "Introducing the Despecialized Edition"
What is the DeEd and why it was made.

- "Introducing the changes"
Showing the changes made to the movies and how the changes were discovered (005's galleries).

- "Introducing the Rontoscoping"
Talking about and showing the removal of changes with rotoscoping.

- "Introducing the Sources"
This you've of course already seen but it will be re-cut slightly, as some segments will be used in the other parts.

- "Introducing the Colors"
How the color correction was done.

- "Introducing the Soundtacks"

I'd dearly love to include this one but I cannot with clear conscience attempt to do it myself - I could do the video side of it, but not the audio side and the script. The request for help with this still stands.

- "Introducing the Versions"
What are all the different versions, including the PDEs.
This one will be expanded to also talk about and show the latest versions of ESB and ROTJ.

As to using all the other Oscars, I think it would get boring pretty quickly and one is all that is needed to illustrate the point - the other awards are introduced by showing the corresponding segments from the movies.

With Obi-Wan's scream, again, it is used to illustrate a point, not to analyze all the different changes and versions and I think that showing the two most different versions serves that purpose best.

Yeah, that's my biggest concern as well.

I'll be happy if the colors are reasonable and the sunset close-up has a red sky.

So, are you saying that if the film is DVNRed to shit, you won't mind as long as the colors are reasonable and the sunset close-up has a red sky?

If the colors are bad, we can fix that, quite easily, probably even just with a script that everyone can apply themselves, so as not to infringe copyright unnecessarily. But if the detail is scrubbed by DVNR, there's no getting it back.

Although, I must say that the excessive DVNR in Disney catalog releases seems to be mostly limited to animated films - Mary Poppins for example looks great on BD.
