What about it?
What about it?
Yeah, getting feedback directly from the fans of the movie is probably the best possible form of QC. Maybe the studios should try that approach.
I honestly don't know. Some might. Empire is already out there after all, albeit in a crude form.
If I ever do another version of SW, I can assure you I will not use compressed 720p clips with bad framerate-conversion. That is not to say that what is shown in these clips isn't amazing, because it is, but the encoding quality of the clips themselves is far bellow anything I would consider using if I was doing another version of SW DeEd.
Oh, yeah, you're absolutely right of course. I just wanted to point it out.
Well, TS Muxer automatically converts subtitles when you create a BD.
Well, that's what I've been saying from the beginning - that I'm afraid they'll release some bastardized "close enough" version of the OOT and then when we once again complain, everyone will call us petty fanboys who are never satisfied, like with the GOUT.
Also, the SW restoration was done more than 10 years ago. I'm sure their algorithms have improved since then.
And from what I've read (from several different sources) Lowry actually had nothing to do with the colors, those were supposedly done in-house at Lucasfilm and Lowry only did the cleanup.
Oh, I agree completely! I've always said that I don't consider Despecialized a proper restoration/preservation. It's always been meant to just be something to hold us over until something better comes along, official or otherwise :-)
Wow! One of your best videos to date IMHO :-)
There were but they cut them out! :-)
I access this forum mostly through subscriptions too and then I only check the rest of the forum from time to time, but I'm subscribed to like 100 threads :-)
Why does the thread need any action, if there's nothing new to discuss concerning its topic?
Well, I hope season 4 won't be like the Phantom Menace ;-)
Yeah, I posted before I read your answer :-)
I'd say it's because in the raw scan, the whole thing has a bit of a tint, so it looks more uniform but mainly I'd say it's because in the raw footage neither of the three layers has true blacks, whereas in the restoration, the foreground elements do have much darker blacks than the painting, which makes it look more fake (you could argue it's supposed to mimic atmospheric distortion but it's too different to look real).
Thanks Mike!
And the thing is I agreed with BuddhaMaster the first time he posted about this issue, so I just don't understand why he keeps arguing the "point".
No, I just seriously don't understand what you're trying to accomplish here?
Wow - that's really cool.
Those are sound arguments. I guess it depends on preference.
So, what's your point? I didn't use those photos at all.
And also yes, it's ideally supposed to look exactly like what the print looks like when screened (which those photos probably don't because taking a photo of the screen is usually very inaccurate).
Those are not scans, they are photos taken off a screen - I'm actually amazed they look as good as they do, both resolution and color-wise.
Actually, I thing MV has it. But yeah, I used a low-res scan of that print (or one like it) graciously sent to me by MV, as a reference to time the whole movie - it was the closest thing I had to an accurate reference (although I've recently learned that the scan isn't necesarily perfectly accurate to what the actual print looks like) and this shot is indeed very green and grainy there - although it's not quite as blown out and the sand is less yellow but like yoda-sama says, it was quite difficult to deal with because of the quality of the sources. Could I do it better now? Hell yeah but it's too late to cry over spilled milk ;-)
Plus, there sure as hell were no huge numbers rejecting the BD release (it's in the top 50 best selling BDs of all time) and that was a terrible release not just for the changes - if they marketed the SE in 4K with fixed colors, they'd almost certainly have a huge seller on their hands and then they could at some later date double-dip with the OOT. I certainly don't wish it to happen this way but it's a distinct possibility.
Cinema came way before television, so screens were big before they were small and the content on them was crisp and detailed before it was low-res and blurry. And we're just getting closer to having the same thing at home. At least that's my personal point of view.
