THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now
Time

I've read somewhere, that there is no digital HD master for Phantom Menace (as it is the only one of the prequels which wasn't shot digitally and when they made the DVD master, they made it only SD - 1024x576 I'd guess) so that the HD broadcast was sourced from an upscaled DVD master. Can someone confirm/falsify that information? It does look a little bit like that, when you look at it.

I didn't have a chance to listen to the 5.1 in Jedi on a 5.1 setup so if anyone has, I'd like some feedback on that (I'm not sure how well the 5.1 upmix of the pliced in 2.0 worked out).

Also, the 97 SE reconstruction is just an idea for the possible future :-) The idea there is that with KGAr footage it would be possible to make it almost seamless as, unlike the GOUT, the anamorphic video wouldn't stand out in the HD footage. I'm definitely not doing it unless I get the 97 5.1 mix (does anyone know where I could get that?).

I'm almost done with Empire. I'm doing it the same way as the others - adjusting Adywan's AVCHD to fit to the GOUT sound, only for Empire of course using Ady's reconstruction for the original footage. There were some problems as it seems that some original shots, which were folowed by an SE addition were trimmed by a few frames (eg. the Wampa's hand falling on the ground when Luke cuts it of, or the shot from Falcon's cockpit before Vader's shuttle leaving Bespin is added). If Ady reads this I'd like to ask how he dealt with these in his reconstruction - in other words: will the reconstruction 5.1 mix fit GOUT and consequently my TESB:PDE?

Yeah, I said that somewhere in the thread before, but from what I hear the 2004 soundmix of Jedi was quite ok, yet I'd still like to make another mix using the superior 1997 mix and I was also thinking about making a 1997 SE reconstruction like Adywan did for his TESB AVCHD.

You can easily do it yourself, just use TS Muxer to demux the audio, use whatever software to lower/rise the volume (I'm sure you can find a free program for it) and remux again like with the fix. But I just tried it on my speakers and though the volume was pretty high, it definitely didn't seem speakers blowing to me.

I don't know, the volumes of the tracks are kept as they were in the sources (HD Broadcast and GOUT) the Czech dub is sourced from a very old copy of a copy VHS so it doesn't seem likely it would be the best of the 3. I'm fine with the sound and won't be doing anything with it anymore (exept maybe eventually adding a different mix if I find one). Can anyone help me get the 1997 LD 5.1 audio for Jedi?

Yeah, I just put that together quickly and the out of sync sound is just one of the issues there, but like I said, it's just for fun.

BTW: I'm planning to reinstal my system soon and I won't be starting work on Empire before that.

I put it together for fun, the technical execution isn't great but it is the idea that counts ;-)

I'm starting work on Empire v2.0. I wanted to give Vegas another shot with this but it doesn't recognise m2ts as video and it keeps crashing on me whenever I atempt doing something more complicated in it so I'll probably stick to Power Director :-(

I'm currently removing the pulldown on Ady's reconstruction DVD.

Are there any alternate sound mixes available for TESB?

Here's a video showing all the changes in STAR WARS PDE v2.1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ2BKnqVcyI

STAR WARS PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION v2.1

and here's an nfo.

[RELEASE TiTLE ]..[ Star_Wars_1080p_PARTLY_DESPECIALIZED_EDITION_v2.1_Harmy ]

[ FiLE SiZE ]......[ 7.9 GB -- DVD9 ]

[ RUNTiME ]........[ 121 mins ]

[ GENRE ]..........[ SCI-FI | FANTASY ]

[ RESOLUTiON ].....[ 1920 x 1080 ]

[ SCAN TYPE].......[ Progressive ]

[ FRAME RATE ] ....[ 23.976 ]

[ ViDEO ]..........[ AVCHD @ 7448 Kbps ]

[ AUDiO 1 ]........[ AC3 6ch @ 448 Kbps 1977 70mm English 5.1 (Hairy_Hen's 70mm reconstruction 5.1 upmix) ]

[ AUDiO 2 ]........[ AC3 2ch @ 256 Kbps 1993 English 2.0 (2006 Bonus DVD sourced) ]

[ AUDiO 3 ]........[ AC3 1ch @  96 Kbps 1977 English 1.0 (The mono mix restoration thanks to Belbucus and Moth3r) ]

[ AUDiO 4 ]........[ AC3 2ch @ 192 Kbps Descriptive Commentary for the blind (VHS sourced) ]

[ AUDiO 5 ]........[ AC3 2ch @ 256 Kbps Czech 2.0 (VHS sourced dubbing) ]

[ SUBTiTLES ]......[ English -- not hardsubbed ]

[ SOURCE ].........[ Adywan's colour corrected SE AVCHD (HDTV sourced), 2006 Bonus Original Theatrical Release DVD (Sourced from 1993 Laserdisc master) ]

I used the 2.0 soundtrack from 2006 BONUS DVD (GOUT) and adjusted and trimmed Adywan's AVCHD to fit to it, so I virtually recreated the theatrical cut. Then I also replaced some of the most glaring CGI and other offending changes with the GOUT. Han, ofcourse, shoots Greedo in cold blood.

Version 2.1 improves on the first version in several aspects: It is a 23.976 AVCHD, there are no more framerate issues, the upscale of the GOUT footage is superior, there is more different soundmixes available in this version and it contains English subtitles.

I just finished watching STAR WARS v2.1 and not only it's encoded OK but it's also awesome, there's a version of the original SW I can live with until the OOT comes out on Blu-Ray (if ever). Also the sound exeperience was great with the hairy_hen's 70mm reconstruction. I already started uploading but as usual it will take a few days.

Thanks, Chewtobacca, I'm glad you liked it and I hope others will enjoy it too. I know there is a few shortcomings, I was actually trying to do the Bantha herd thing differently but then it wouldn't fit the original sound. Concerning the band scene, there is only one shot of Oola that I replaced, right at the begining. I replaced the upper one with the lower one:

As you can see, she's in virtually the same position in the room in both of those shots. All the rest of the scene is taken directly from GOUT, so if there are any inconsistencies, they were already there in the original cut.

I did make some inconsistencies in the ending celebration but I think they are not very noticable and they were a necesary sacrifice if I didn't want to put in anymore GOUT footage.

I probably won't be doing another version any time soon as I am quite satisfied with the result myself and so now I have a good version to watch and show to my friends. Maybe for the 20th anniversary I'll do a STAR WARS TRILOGY: PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION: SPECIAL EDITION :-D

I finished encoding with multiAVCHD v3.0 and it worked like a charm (I'm not 100% sure there are no artifacts like before but I skimmed through the film and didn't see any). It even went faster than v4.1, it only took just under 5hrs. I think I'm gonna watch it tonight to see if there are any problems and if there aren't I'll start uploading. I'm adding one more sound - the descriptive audio commentary for blind. And I also added English subtitles.
