THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now
Time

I agree that it's wrong to criticize this way, although I must agree that it isn't exactly a stelar encode, but that didn't stop me from using it as a source for my PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION because the minor loss of picture quality is more than made up for by the IMO beautiful colour correction.

That's the thing, reading these threads brings me a lot of joy but I hate it at the same time, because they kind of ruin the films for me as I never noticed any of these mistakes and continuity errors when watching the films, but now that they were pointed out to me, I can never ever unnotice them :-D

Thanks, I'm really glad you liked it :-)

Before, whenever I wanted to watch STAR WARS, I had to fight an internal battle between great picture quality (HD) and great version (GOUT). In order to avoid this, I wanted to make a version that I'd prefer to watch over all the other versions out there, until (if ever) the OOT comes out on Blu-Ray, a version with a great over-all picture quality and at the same time, one as close to the original version as possible. But I never got round to doing it, (I once attempted Empire but the qulity of the cut was so poor, that it didn't help my dilema at all) until Adywan's reconstruction came out and gave me the prod I needed to get cracking. So here it is. Admitedly, there are some minor flaws, but they are flaws I can live with, and I am very happy that my vision is shared and enjoyed by others as well. :-)

OK, I just started uploading TESB PDE v2.0.

Also, there were some requests for posting DVDs but it would really be quite complicated and expensive from the Czech Republic, so is there anyone who would be willing to send out copies of my edits to those who can't download them in the UK or USA?

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Well, I was just assuming the German HD broadcasts were 25fps but I think it's quite a safe assumption as my European HDTV broadcasts are 25fps and contrary to belief of many there is NTSC and PAL with HD video, there's no difference in resolution but there is difference in framerates (I think that only goes for HDTV, I think blu-ray should always be 24 or 23.976 fps). But I'm quite new to all this framerate mess myself so I may be wrong :-)

HD source is neither NTSC or PAL...so there is no need to change the audio, at least for those of us who will be watching the HD version.

Yeah, exactly, and Ady's using the German HD broadcasts as a source, which were originally 25fps. Anyway, there probably will be a DVD version as well but I'm confident that Ady will make sure that there will be no NTSC-PAL conversion problems.

I want to use the DVD set as the source master, but the theatrical versions are anamorphic 16:9 and the deleted and extra scenes are all full frame open matte. I could try and create letterbox versions of the deleted and extra scenes, but that would mess up the sub-titles that would be cropped over. So new sub-titles would have to be made to match the rest of the film, and done in a way to cover up any of the original ones that may still show after cropping.

You don't have to crop the exact centre of the frame. You could (and with cropping 4:3 to widescreen, that's usually the better choice anyway) leave more of the upper part of the frame and less of the bottom, thus covering the subs altogether.

Suggesting cutting out ANY dialog from TESB is IMO on the point of heresy.

What I think would be cool though would be to show the two transports leaving HOTH and show one of them actually being destroyed => they couldn't protect two trasports at a time. It would require a lot of model shooting in order not to repeat the same shot againg but it would be cool IMO.

Here's a video of the changes in TESB v2.0:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SquVsUORlTo

The encode is finished and I must say I'm quite happy with it. Thanks to using Ady's reconstruction instead of GOUT, the difference between HD and SD isn't as obvious as in the other two. I think that to someone who wouldn't know about the changes it would be practically unnoticable (not invisible, but if they were following the story and not focusing on picture quality, they simply wouldn't notice).

I tweaked the colours of the reconstruction footage in two places: Deblued the Wampa cave shots to fit with the AVCHD colours and returned the pinkish/orange tint to the Cloud city mate after Luke leaves Dagobah, I know it doesn't make sense in the context of the story but it was like that in both the 1980 original and 1997 SE and I simply like it that way.

Also I found out that Ady's reconstruction 5.1 mix syncs perfectly just as I demuxed it from the DVD. So there will be Ady's 5.1, GOUT 2.0 and Czech 2.0.

I'm going away for a few days, so I won't be able to start uploading until Monday.

And have you thought about making other language versions of your SW:R movies, especially german? (many people, including me, think that the imperials, Vader and Palpantine sound better in german)

Toped :-D

But the holo still doesn't look anything like the holograms in the OT do.

I think it would look better if you added a little feather to the edges of the hologram, it would blend better with the background. Maybe also cut down on opacity. But what really makes a SW hologram a SW hologram is the interlacing, which can be simulated by stationary horizontal lines in a still pic but not in motion. I think the best way of doing it would be to actually do it the same way they did it for the films - shoot the guy from an interlaced CRT screen with a camera.

There was a problem with the encode again. The picture keeps falling apart in every player I've tried but the artifacts are not hardcoded, just the players can't cope with the video.

Here are the technical specs as shown in MPC:

Could someone suggest some different setting or something?

I used the same method as with the succesfull encode of Jedi = convert the 1080p25 mpeg to 1080p23.976 in TS Muxer and then make AVCHD in multiAVCHD v3.0.

At the moment I'm reencoding with multiAVCHD v3.0 @25fps from the orig. 1080p25 mpg and will then convert that to 23,976 in TS Muxer.

Grrrr, it gives me goosebumps the way JediTray turns me into a PT lover in his posts :-D I am not and I have never been (well, exept when I was like twelve or something.) I don't even own Ep1 and 2 on anything else than VHS and Ep3 on DVD and only because I bought them real cheap in a video-rental sellout, while I own the OT... well, just take a look at this: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Little-Men-Little-Wars-Share-Your-Star-Wars-Collection/post/411013/#TopicPost411013

Anyway, back on topic guys :-D
