Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I don't understand, why so many people here seem disappointed by this. I'm not surprised, so I can't be disappointed, it's no more and no less than I expected. It's actually kind of funny that they use the most obviously shitty parts of the 2004 transfer to promote the new set. I'm surprised we didn't get to see the green lightsabre in SW :-)

Save Star Wars Dot Com

Exactly. We should make sure that this guy knows that could be the case and that they need to check. The earliest sign would be the added debris from the probe droid, but I doubt you could tell from 35mm film...

I think the earliest sign would be the Fox and Lucasfilm logo, unless Fox would actually intentionally try to f*ck them over.

It seems there were more people asking this question from both sides of the camp and they've just sent a universal answer because they're replying as if unsure whether the questioner wanted it to be the original or the SE. I'm sure there were people writing to them that they should preserve the SE because that represents Lucas' original vision.

Harmy's STAR WARS TRILOGY "Partly Despecialized Edition" HD. !!! These version are now obsolete - Look for Despecialized Editions instead!!!
Time

OK, guys, I figured it was about time I re-uploaded the PDE Jedi with the fixed audio (I found out megaupload works better for me than RS so I can do it now) and I thought it would be good to add hairy_hen's 5.1 mix and replace the low-bit-rate GOUT audio with a higher bitrate 2.0 from Belbucus' audio.

Also, my previous 5.1 mix, which was unprofessionally put together by me, was patched by the same low-bit-rate GOUT Audio. So hairy_hen's 5.1 will replace my old mix and will be the new 5.1 audio.

Hopefully I'll be able to do this during next week as I'm quite busy working on my ROTJ DVD reconstruction and also the exam period is upon me :-)

For those of you who'd like to add these mixes to the version you've already got, you can do that the same way as you applied the original audio-fix.

For discussions sake, I do disagree that the long opening shot is somehow not impressive just because CGI imagery is now ubiquitous in cinema. I think the opening shot, starting with the two fighters and the slow reveal of just how HUGE that battle is one of the better action sequences in the film and some of the best CGI in the PT.

I must say, I agree with him, CGI was impressive when it started, but at the current stage of its development, there's nothing impressive about it anymore. Don't get me wrong though, the scene was impressive in itself, the way it was done, there is just nothing impressive about the fact that it could be done. I consider the space battle in Return of the Jedi to be the greatest and most impressive VFX in the history of ever, because it was done optically with models, yet looked almost completely realistic (maybe more so than CGI) and it had some really long and complicated shots. I've always loved the long shot of the Rebel fleet before the hyperspace jump where Falcon flies around followed by several starfighters.

Oh, and just in case this got lost because it was the last post on the previous page:

I really liked the new Star Trek. When I saw it in the cinema, I thought: Wow, this film was more STAR WARS than any of the STAR WARS prequels!!!

Guys, do you know whether the on-line vids at redlettermedia.com are the best quality that exists of these reviews? I'm not sure if anyone else would be interested but I'm gonna make a DVD containing all 3 reviews with menus and stuff for myself, so it would be nice to have them in the best possible quality for that.

I have two things to say:

1) The Attack of the Show link on the website is dead.

2) As is being discussed in this thread Empire was chosen to be preserved in the library of congress. I think this is very relevant to the savestarwas.com site and there should be more discussion whether it is the original or the SE that is being preserved. I'm just gonna repeat what I said in the other thread:

People here seem to assume that it is the original but I wouldn't be so sure about that. They asked Fox for a print, Fox gave it to them, they archieved it. Now, you may have noticed that ever since the 2000 VHS and LD release the butchered versions were never marketed as Special Editions, so there's no reason to assume the situation is different with film prints.

For our cause it would actually be better if it was the SE, because that way we could point out how Lucas is trying to change history. If it is the original, it weakens the whole film-preservation part of our arguments as it would now be only Jedi that isn't preserved for future generations.

Some (not so kind) words about Lucas by Mel Smith

Yeah,  I think the only instance where this kind of think is justifiable is when making a sequel to something and an actor playing an important part in the previous film is dead (or really old ;-) .)  I really liked the use of CG Arnold in the new terminator or Marlon Brando in Superman Returns. And it is now basically the only way to make the Thrawn trilogy into a film trilogy, which I must admit, I'd love to see if someone really good was hired to adopt the books to scripts. They could use the original actors through performance capture.

The clip definitely looks like it's from a VHS but the colours definitely are not the 2004 SE. So that leaves us exactly nowhere in finding out which version was archieved; people here seem to assume that it is the original but I wouldn't be so sure about that. They asked Fox for a print, Fox gave it to them, they archieved it. Now, you may have noticed that ever since the 2000 VHS and LD release the butchered versions were never marketed as Special Editions, so there's no reason to assume the situation is different with film prints.
