I just sent a PM to Satanika asking him to upmix another RotJ 5.1, this time with the unaltered 1993 mix, so provided he is able to help with that, you shouldn't have to make that edit for the ntsc version--it'll be a fresh ac3 encode from a lossless source.

That would be great, just how long do you think it might take? I was about to release.

Edit: Also, I'd like you to keep the Luke - Vader fight sound, it does sound better and you said yourself that it's closer to the 35mm mix anyway.

Lord of the Rings - TTT and ROTK "REFORGED" edit... (* cancelled project * - drive failure)
Time

I think you can have it, if you want. I really like it the title (Chewtobacca's idea btw.) but I don't see this project going anywhere, at lest not in the near future, as I lost all the data in an HDD failure, so if you want the name, it's yours.

Just let me know if you're using it, so that I can rename the thread.

Will you frinking explain it to me or what? :-D

EDIT: And yes, it's sad... ;-(

Pupil used to make those, and I've made them myself.  They played back fine in two different media players, but there will always be some players that ignore the DAR and display the video incorrectly.

If you do decide to use 1:1 instead, I would squash the video, rather than stretch it.  Playback problems are far more likely when you stretch it to 1024 or whatever, in my experience.

No, I'm definitely keeping the resolution as it is. If the AR doesn't work for someone (highly unlikely, as a vast majority of players can be set to show 16:9 if it doesn't do it automatically) they can download the DVD - period.

If I was to squish the picture, I'd have to re-encode yet again. This way it will be the best possible quality: high-bit-rate encode, using the best codec, encoded straight from the source files, in full PAL resolution, at the correct speed. And if everything goes well, I could have the MKV up tomorrow morning...

I assure you that there are many people out there who don't care for the prequels but don't mind the SEs. Like my uncle, who said he liked the originals better, when the SE came out, but now has the 2004 DVD set and is ok with it, to him they're just movies and the changes don't bother him but he doesn't like the prequels and isn't the type to watch supplements, so he'd definitely buy the separate OT set, if he cared about HD, which he doesn't...

If you buy either trilogy separately and not the saga box you don't get the 3 bonus discs.

Say you just wanted the 2004 in HD with the oot deleted scenes.  Well you cannot get the bonus deleted scenes without also purchasing the turd prequel trilogy.

I would love to have the 1997 special editions and oot on the blu ray set as well.  Too bad no fan prior to 2004 will be satisfied.  Those happy with the 2004 crap will be excited beyond measure.  Me i am not one bit happy.

I know. That's why I said:  "and isn't the type to watch supplements"

I actually know a lot of people who don't give a rat's ass about watching documentaries and deleted scenes. I must say that with very few exceptions, that would be anyone over 40 from my surroundings.

OK, just so you're up-to-date on the current developement:

1) I encoded a 5GB 25fps 720x576 h264 stream from my editor for Chewtobacca to use for the PAL to NTSC coversion, so the NTSC DVD5 is now fully in his hands. The situation is a bit different on an NTSC DVD9 due to sound-mixes but I'll get to that later.

2) The 5GB 25fps 720x576 h264 stream I encoded for Chewtobacca is what I'll use for the MKV, I will only be changing its frame-rate without re-encoding for the MKV, so the black bars will stay and it should stretch fine to 16:9.

3) I encoded a 6GB 25fps 720x576 MPEG-2 stream from my editor for the PAL DVD9, which I will be authoring myself, so there should be no re-encoding necesary. But I will release the MKV 1st as it is much easier to mux in new soundmixes in case I'd find some I'd like to add to the DVD9.

4) At the moment I have 2 sound-mixes ready for the PAL version:

384Kbps 2.0 AC3 sourced from Belbucus' 1993 LD PMC preservation - basically a higher bitrate equivalent of the GOUT audio.

448Kbps 5.1 AC3 sourced from hairy_hen's 5.1 custom mix, with the new music removed and replaced by the SE 5.1 (this should be very close to the original 35mm audio).

5) Only the Belbucus' sourced 2.0 audio is ready for the NTSC version and that's what will be on the NTSC DVD5.

To avoid another re-encode for the PAL to NTSC change, I'll be doing the removal of the new music from h_h's audio separately for the NTSC DVD9 and the MKV, hopefully tonight.

If I find any other sound-mixes or foreign dubs, for which I'm asking in this thread, I might be adding those too.

Why release the OT as a separate box set if the originals are not going to be there? It is a box set that appeals to no one. All you get is just the 04 DVDs upgraded to BD for twice the money. It is just an overpriced counterfeit product that is passed off as the real version.

I assure you that there are many people out there who don't care for the prequels but don't mind the SEs. you know what, something just occurred to me. What if a lot of the deleted scenes on the Blu-Ray set for the OT are the scenes/shots taken out by the SE? Because after all these are deleted scenes now, right?. But would they be in HD or SD even if they did something like that?

This idea occured to me once I've heard they would put all the deleted scenes on the BD. But I bet if they did do something like that, they would just use the GOUT transfer anyway :-(

Yes, but I don't provide the links to the faulty MPEG-2 anymore, as there will be a PAL DVD9 with the corrected subtitles and the same quality. And possibly an MKV.

Also, I wanted to ask, would it be ok to create an x264 MKV with the correct speed (23,97 fps) and PAL resolution, or rather would such a file be playable in standalone media players that support MKV? It sure as hell would be playable on a computer and it seems the best solution for computer playback - highest SD resolution but correct speed.

Erase garbage mates by correcting the colour levels (they were never visible in cinemas), sure. Erase the out of nowhere appearing ships, no way, they were always there and they should stay because that's what was achieved in 1983 and for optical compositing, it is very close to perfection, tweaking it in a computer makes it much less valuable because computer compositing is soooo easy that 8-year-olds can do it on their toy computers.

Info: ROTJ soundmixes and foreign dubs.
Time

Hi, I figured it was about time I re-uploaded my PDE Jedi with the fixed audio and I thought it would be good to add hairy_hen’s 5.1 mix and replace the low-bit-rate GOUT audio with a higher bitrate 2.0 from Belbucus’ audio.

Also, my previous 5.1 mix, which was unprofessionally put together by me, was patched by the same low-bit-rate GOUT Audio. So hairy_hen’s 5.1 will replace my old mix and will be the new 5.1 audio.

Now, the thing is, with my shitty old audios removed and the new ones added, there’s still about 500MB left to fill a DVD9, so I was hoping someone could point me towards some alternative GOUT synced sound-mix preservations or maybe foreign dubs (I would be particularly interested in German for all 3, to show the edits to my uncle).

I’d like to use some of the audios for the ROTJ theatrical reconstruction DVD9 as well.

I know I should post this to one of my threads but I was hoping I could get quicker answers this way, so I can get the discs released. And hopefully, it will help other editors as well.

It will become an issue if a fan editor uses them in a project I'm interested in but as far as I'm concerned I have already purchased this product more times than I can count.

Yeah, this exact particular product. I wouldn't feel bad downloading a fan edit or preservation based on these blu-rays just like I don't feel bad downloading stuff based on the HD airings, because I already bought this transfer (twice at that - 2nd time with the GOUT). If it is not a new transfer, regardless of the resolution they didn't create any new product, they just dumped the same thing they already had on a different disc. The 2004 SE discs on the GOUT set also weren't the same discs as the 2004 set (the labels on them are actually slightly different) they only had the same content, just like the blus probably will.
