"I want it all, I want it all, I want it now!!!"

No seriously, these two shots would be awesome to have, especially this one:

In GOUT this shot looks like sh*t (possibly the worst shot in the whole thing), so it would be extremely valuable for any future reconstruction (I would have loved to use this in my SW PDE to get rid of the stupid dinosaur but the GOUT quality was too bad) so maybe in v.3.0...

It's funny, every time I'm trying to explain to someone, why it is wrong to meddle with works of art in the way that SW SE does, I think of Mona Lisa and say that it is as if some restorers were doing a preservation of Mona Lisa and decided that it could do with some update using a black marker.

And if I take the metaphor even further, it would be as if they then hanged a copy of the "newly enhanced" Mona Lisa in Louvre, and when people started complaining, that they want to see the original, they would just print out a 1.3mpx photo of it and hang it next to it, saying that the original has been irreversibly altered with the black marker and this is the best source of the original that they could find.

RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE)
Time

Great!!! Reinstalling the codecs seems to have worked, so there will be an MKV after all. As I had to re-encode anyway, I used the opportunity to make the AVC file smaller so it will fit a DVD5 - at this resolution, the quality should be comparable to an mpeg-2 DVD9 or better.

Now, I'll just be waiting for h_h's new audio mix.

GOUT, Automated Theatrical Colouring, and a Reference Guide
Time

I have been reading this tread with interest and I must admit that I got a little scared that we may have complained injustly about the 2004 SE colour-timing but I did a little comparison and there's just no way that the 2004 SE is anywhere near the correct colour-timing but it's true that the GOUT footage could do with a little colour boost, though I'm pretty sure that the GOUT's colour-timing cannot be quite trusted either, boosted or not. I'd think that the trailer should actually be a pretty good reference.

And he writes the same sh*t everywhere:

Kenkraly @ HTF:

This will be a day long remembered the star wars saga finaly on blu-ray disc in september 2011. I will be pre-ordering the set at the end of auguest of 2011. Great News Indeed. I know some fans are upset that the original cuts won't be on the blu-ray but for me I like both versions. Their are some changes in the Special Editions I don't like greedo shot 1st and the 1st cgi jabba in 1997 but over all I like the speocal editions of the original trilogy and I also like the prequels. No matter which versions of the ot comes out on blu-ray is fine with me.

I am in agreement with everyone here that the original cuts of the ot need to be preserve on the blu-ray for historical perspective's. I will buy the box set no matter which cuts are on the blu-rays I like both versions of the ot.

agree with that 100% percent.

I will buy the blu-rays of the star wars flims no matter if it's both or just the se verions in the set.

RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE)
Time

I found out that the 5GB 25fps 720x576 h264 stream I encoded for Chewtobacca to use for the NTSC DVD has one of the black border masks missing so I can't use that for the MKV and now I can't get Power Director to encode an mp4 that works. It always encodes the whole film and when I play it, the 1st 5 minutes or so work and the rest keeps falling apart, quite apparently due to some compression thing. I've had this problem before and then miraculously I managed to encode that one for Chewtobacca and now it doesn't work again, so I'm trying over and over with different settings but so far still nothing. And every encode takes 3-5 hrs, so it's pretty f*cking annoying. I tried reinstalling the codecs and if it still won't work, I give up and I'll only release the DVDs.

First it was the subtitles and now this; To be honest, I can't wait to be done with this project. It's more of a public service than anything else, because I prefer my HD PDE version and am very unlikely to ever watch this myself. Don't take it the wrong way though, I really enjoyed making the edit, otherwise I wouldn't have done it at all, it's just things like these encoding problems that piss me off. I'm really thankful that Chewtobacca is taking care of the NTSC version, because that would be another great pain in the ass.

Now, for the DVD release I'm only waiting for the "purist version" of hairy_hen's mix and possibly a German dub would be nice too, if someone could provide it for me.

Sadly, we seem to be in a minority :-( Although on the HTF, the discussion seems to be about 50:50 but that is quite understandable, because that forum is for home theatre and film enthusiasts, not the general public.

Btw: Welcome, Quackula, I'm happy for every new soul that joins the cause :-)

(LOL, that reminded me of my French friend, who fights for the lesbian cause but the way she pronounces it, it sounds like she's fighting "for ze cows," I never told her but I find it immensely funny :-D )

I'm a big fan of Adywan's color corrected The Empire Strikes Back. Since Adywan removed Greedo shooting first in the A New Hope HD version, maybe he could remove the Vader going back to his shuttle sequence. Also restore the line of dialogue "Bring my shuttle." Or maybe remove Luke's yell while he's plummeting down the big shaft in Cloud City. Or maybe remove the sound of Luke's saber turning off while he's running out of the Wampa cave. I have nothing but the greatest respect for Adywan and what he's done. I mention these things because  they take me away from enjoying the film. These changes sound simple to me at least. :)

Yeah, all these changes you described are kept because Ady's AVCHD is a 97SE reconstruction but as Tobar said, you should check out Ady's DVD 1980  reconstruction or if you want 1080p AVCHD, check out my PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION, it has all the scenes you describe changed back plus a few more.

STAR WARS "Final Conflict" and "Imperial Collection" box-sets
Time

Hi, I just stumbled across these:

Final Conflict

Imperial Collection

They are supposedly preliminary designs for the 2004 SEs and I like both of them much better than what we ended up with. Last great STAR WARS box-set art IMO was the 97 SE (Both VHS and LD). The 2000 SE was ok too but nothing special.

Now, does anyone know whether there are any higher res pictures of these two designs, I would love to recreate them.

Harmy that photshop of Han and Greedo with walkie talkies is the best thing ever.

Thanks. It was actually Adywan's idea, I just thought it would be fun to see.

Now if you photoshoped walkie talkies swinging into the AT-ST instead of logs we might have a new winner.

Maybe tomorrow, it's 7.30 AM here, I'm going to sleep :-)

From the looks of the first picture, I'm pretty sure they added a wet t-shirt contest for Leia...

I hope it's clear, that I've tweaked these pictures myself, it's not actually anything official (sorry - wasn't sure whether you're joking or not)...

And yes ;-)
