ESB: Harmy Despec HD AVCHD deal is simply AWESOME. You have to get a hold of this version of ESB, its the best ive ever seen. Im really anxious to see ESB:R by Adywan, but for now this is the best version of ESB there is, period.

Wow, thanks, man :-) I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I should start bookmarking these posts to put on the despecialized edition covers, like studios do when they quote reviews on their DVD/BD covers ;-) :-D

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I must side with DJ on this. There's no problem bringing it up but it does get a bit annoying after like 10 posts of "so who's next."

I wish Ady all the best and I'm sure everyone else here does too and if they want/can to donate they will and it's enough to bring the possibility to their attention in one post.

GOUT/SE blend using Avisynth ANH COMPLETE!
Time

This looks like a very interesting project.

I don't quite understand how it works though. If you use the luma information from the SE where there were digital alterations done (like adding Dewbacks and such), shouldn't the changes show through? And how do you make it line up? The GOUT is cropped differently than the SE and the way it's cropped changes from shot to shot.

Hypothetical Question.

Sure, from where I stand, the prequels and the SEs would totally be forgiven, simply because they could be forgotten. I like Jurassic Park 1 and 2 and I don't like the third one, so I simply don't own it and don't watch it and it's like that with every other film.

So following that logic, there would even be nothing to forgive about the prequels, there isn't that many movie makers who never made a bad film. But I can't forget the prequels, when I'm forced to remember them every time I want to watch three of my favourite movies in decent quality.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I don't think so, I couldn't include it in PCM because it would just take up too much space, so I'd rather include an array of different mixes than putting the same mix there twice in AC3. It'll probably include the same mixes as the PDE minus the commentary for the blind and it'll have the 93 mix at a higher bitrate encoded from Belbucus' LD PCM files and if I can get it, I'd like to include the 77 stereo mix (anyone got it?).

2004 DVD - the reason why they redid this wipe? I have no idea, I know the scenes before it had recomposited starfields in some shots and they colorized the rank badge etc. but why redo this wipe?

They redid this wipe because that shot was recomposited in 2004 as well. Look at the edges of the officers face - you can see the blue spill in the original and 97SE. He's also slightly cropped on the edges, which could mean that they didn't have the original elements for this scene and simply rotoscoped a new starfield behind them while slightly cropping the edges to get rid of the blue spill.

Another thing: I wouldn't quite trust the garbage matte removal presented in the official comparisons. I think that some of the matte boxes are gone simply due to the increased contrast and crushed blacks of the 04 version, not due to any conscious garbage matte removal but whoever did the official changes (and I doubt it was anyone who actually worked on the SE and it was quite possibly someone who doesn't even know how these things actually work) just saw the matte boxes in the GOUT and not in the 04SE, so he/she decided that it must be a deliberate fix.

Here is one of the "garbage matte removal" shots from your comparisons and the third picture is the GOUT picture, simply adjusted to approximately the same brightness and contrast levels as the SE. Similarly to the SE half of the stars are gone and so are the garbage mattes.

Furthermore, it is marked as a 1997 change, but to be honest, I seriously doubt that they digitally tweaked any shots just to remove garbage mattes in 97. If anything, it would have been much easier in 2004 when they were working completely in the digital realm.

LD's were not designed for display on everyday TV's, they would have offered almost no advantage over VHS if that was the case. They were for the high-end market with the very best TV's, projectors, etc.

Well, that's just not true, LD is miles away from VHS regardless of the TV you're using to display it (it does depend on the player though, I'll give you that). Of course you'll see more of a difference on a high end TV or a projector but there'll still be a big difference on any TV (at least one produced in the 80s and later). It is similar to DVD vs. BD, on a small cheap 720p LCD you will see less of a difference than on a 60" 1080p high-end plasma but that doesn't mean there won't still be a huge difference on the 720p LCD.
