Hi there, first post and all that, hello!
I'm very excited to see this reconstruction but I've hit a small snag. Every time I try and extract the .rar files, it gets right up to the very end and then asks me to "Please locate the file named sw-deed-part1.r00." Has this happened to anyone else? Help? D:
That's weird. What are you using to unrar?
PMs sent.
And @Hall: Here is the post in which I explain how to apply the fixed audio track to an old version of ROTJ PDE. You can replace the audio exactly the same way.
I thought McDiarmid was horrible in ROTS. He acts like a 4th grader doing a parody of the ROTJ Emperor.

so finally watched this version..
good job harmy.. i only have a 32" inch widescreen, and
it looks prety decent, although a lot of it is dimmer than what
i expected... all the SD shots stood out though...
i guess i've watched the SE version a lot more so the
original scenes stand out quite a bit (i've only seen the unaltered
version a few times)... maybe once the bluray's come out, it can
be improved. until we get a restored version from other sources..

Dimmer? Do you mean like darker? Because it's definitely much brighter than the SEs.
And did you check out the comparisons? There is close to 200 changed shots. Do you mean that all of them stood out?
And I don't see how the SD original scenes could be improved by the blu-ray SEs, if anything, they would stand out even more when put into the higher quality Blu-Ray source.

I've reinstalled JD, and all of a sudden the direct download is working too. Slowly but surely. On another note, I have BDRips of all the 6 movies (4 size 8,5 GB, 2 23,8 GB) But I have no Idea what would be handiest to get them to you. At least they're already up in newsgroups.
Edit: Only Eps. 2 + 3 (the 23 GB ones) look decent. The 9GB do not, which is understandable yet weird since they looked really crisp op my friends HD tv. But I'm not that technically knowledgable I'm afraid.
Good to hear you managed to start downloading.
And you can't have BDRips of any of the live action star wars films, because they never came out on Blu-Ray. There are only HDTV rip and that's what I'm using for these edits.

It's amazing Harmy, just amazing. I can't believe the detail, it's insane. I feel bad for anyone who is watching this searching for things to nitpick. I just sat back and enjoyed, and I was blown away. Seamless Harmy. Incredible job.
Thanks ;-)
Oh, I think you're right but I'll probably keep it this way, because I'm not sure if I'd be able to remove the atmosphere. I could try though...
There must be something wrong on your end, because JDownloader show all the links to be online when I import them.
I'm not going to be re-uploading this but kilik64 said he'd be making it available through myspleen when he gets it.
That's awesome, guys, I'm really glad your enjoying my project :-)
I think they said there would be no more changes for the 3D release but who knows, SW is 4 yrs from now.
Cool :-)
This thread has already been about so many things...
It's funny to think how the prequels would have gone if he had some balls.

While McCallum produced the three Star Wars films made between 1999 and 2005, he said his favorite in the series was “The Empire Strikes Back,” made in 1980.
Cool, they'll be shooting STAR WARS here :-)
Thank you :-)
I did try to put the original lightsabres back but the difference in quality was too glaring. It was one thing to put the original LS into the cave fight scene in Empire, because it was very dark with practically a black background, so the blended in quite well but in SW the duel takes place in front of a relatively bright and detailed backgrounds.
I think the only way to fix the LS while keeping the quality would be to actually recreate them and try to stay as true to the original as possible and I really don't have the patience to do that - and if you compared it to the SE, you'd see that they are actually already much improved (although not by me - I used Ady's AVCHD for the duel). And there are only a few shots where they look marginally different from the GOUT.
As to the flashes, you must realize, that there were pink flashes in the original as well, I sometimes even made more red and less pink than in the GOUT. But there should now be almost no violet and plain purple flashes.
DJ, this should also be available from myspleen, if you prefer that.
Yeah, I think CGI can be a great tool when in right hands. Jurassic Park is a great example of that, because they used it with moderation and more importantly in combination with animatronics, where that worked better. The same goes for LOTR but then when you look at PJ's King Kong, where they relied entirely on CGI, it looks totally fake. I hope PJ learned from that and will go back to make up and animatronics and miniatures in Hobit.
Well, I think that he would look more realistic, if they made the body digital but superimposed a real human face on him. That should be possible, shouldn't it?
Hang on, are you actually talking about the Partly Despecialized Editions or do you mean the new Despecialized ones?
And anyway, Jedi is also my favourite of the old PDE versions (and I mean the cut, not the film) but this new Despecialized Version should totally blow it out of the water, becuase as you can see in that clip, there will be no more purely GOUT shots where it can be helped (and unfortunately there are whole scenes like the music number where it can't) where the PDE was basically just splicing GOUT shots into the SE.
Side note: As you can see, the subtitles have not been replaced yet in that clip and to be honest I'm pissing blood just thinking about it, because where in STAR WARS replacing the subs was a matter of one scene, in Jedi they are all over the place. But as there seems to be high demand for original looking subs, I think I will do it and this time hopefully without drops in quality like in my ROTJ DVD reconstruction.
Agreed, LOTR is an awesome example of using CGI well in combination with other techniques where they work better - the make up work is incredible (orcs and such) and so is the miniature work (Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith etc.).
But one thing is true, the CGI effects in LOTR are the ones that age the worst. Even Golum, although a great achievment at the time, doesn't actually look that great.
Thanks, Griff, but I don't mind some feedback, especially as there may be a version 2.0 down the line but that would be when the Blus come out because I'm quite bothered by the compression artefacts in the HDTV broadcasts, which are magnified by any attempt at colour correction. And there are a few things in ESB that I'd like to fix or should be able to do better with the experience I gained doing STAR WARS and I will have gained doing Jedi.
@ DoubleKO:
I did ask for feedback because I'm interested in what people think of my work, so thank you :-)
Yeah, I did use a static picture of the sky in that shot (though from 97SE) and if you look closely, there is grain added to it but I did underestimate the static grain already present - I should have denoised the picture first but I don't think it looks that bad.
And the wobling background in the droid scene has indeed been discussed before and unfortunately, there was nothing more I could have done about it.
I like ulozto because it has it's own search function and the upload is incredibly fast - where it took several hours to upload ESB to MU and even longer to upload some of my previous projects to RS, it only took an hour to upload this to ulozto. I had a stedy upload speed of 3Mb/s.
Yeah, guys, JDownloader is the way to go with this. And I think it's also quite slow now because there's so many people downloading it.
