Yeah, of course, that's the way I did it with the Greedo scene in STAR WARS and that's how I'm gonna do it here too. (Using the 04DVD of course, as it's the same master, so it's pretty easy.) The hardcoded subs are really low in the frame though, so the new subs won't cover the area but as it's at the very bottom of the frame, it not really noticeable at all.
PMed :-)
Yeah, the 04SE of Jedi has what is perhaps the worst SE change change ever. Hayden Christensen as Anakin's ghost for me is far worse than even Greedo shooting first. And of course they added Jar-Jar :-/
But I find the 97SE of Jedi to be the least offensive of the three. Sure, there's Jedi Rocks but to be honest, the original dance number isn't that great either and all the other changes I find less bad than those made to the other films. But still, the original is better.
Now to the progress: I'm still waiting for the last three clips from DJ. Meanwhile I started working on colour correction - I sort of applied one general setting, which seems to improve it over all and now I'm going through it and tweaking it where needed. And I also still need to erase the hardcoded subs from the HD footage.
All my exams for this year are more or less successfully behind me, so I can now focus on the edit, so all in all, if I get the clips I need soon, I could be done in a two or three weeks.
So, the 1993 German LD had the crawl without the episode title? That's interesting.
I don't mind being told I'm not a real fan, I don't like the word anyway and I like even less what it seems to represent these days.
I like the original STAR WARS Trilogy and Zahn's books and that's about it. If that makes me not a fan, that's great, because apparently in order to be a true fan, you need to be an oaf.
I don't understand why'd they even do that though. The date in the credits is the same and that's about the only thing they could have changed right? Why would they go spending money on making new credits and printing and splicing them for all the prints if it gives the exact same information. That's insane!!!
He actually did copy and paste the things he said. He made the exact same post at blu-ray.com and AVS forum a few hrs ago.
I see that Tolkien and Lucas could shake hands, altering their earlier works to account for inconsistencies with their newer works. Sneaky little hobbitses!!!
And the copyright notice at the very bottom of the backs of the 04 covers says in very small letters:
(R), TM & (C) 1977, (1980, 1983 for ESB and Jedi) 1997, 2004 Lucasfilm LTD.
The covers of the 2004 DVDs do say 2004 on the back. It even says 2004 on the bottom of the box set.
Excelent post over at AVS forum Zombie. I'll just quote what I said on Ady's FB page:
Hey, Ady. It's funny that two members of the OT.com should be fighting the same fight at the same time on two very similar forum but it is so. Zombie is currently fighting the same fight as you at the AVS forum. And he seems to be winning. Maybe you could quote his comment here: http://www.avsforum.com/av s-vb/showthread.php?p=2060 2722#post20602722

I don't know if anyone posted this yet but it's awesome:

With my internet set up, it will literally take 4+ days per file to download. This makes it practically impossible, since there are 4 files per film, I believe.
When I was first downloading STAR WARS in 1080p from torrent back in 08, it took me over a month per movie. Just saying...
Alien only of course.
So, did you cut up and animate Luke in those few frames? I understand that this shot was done in higher quality and more care as it will probably be used in ESB:R?
From what I saw, the subs are hardcoded.
That has nothing to do with the Rancor though. They never claimed to have recomped the Rancor in 97. They only show the Rancor shot in the documentary when talking about recomping to demonstrate what a matte line is, no more no less. There is no difference in the Rancor scene in 97SE whatsoever, so I doubt Mielr could have meant that.

That could explain why there are still obvious matte lines in the Rancor scene in ROTJ SE; they didn't re-comp the scene, they just monkeyed with the black levels.
Are you kidding? The Rancor scene is very, very obviously recomposited. Trust me, I had the two versions layered over each other trying to salvage the matte lines and it wasn't possible because the objects are in different relative position. The same goes for the snow battle, 90% of the model shots were recomped. Maybe some of the cockpit shots weren't or they were simply recomposited badly.
Check out 005's comparisons.
BTW- you said the missing frames from the Wampa scene didn't come from the GOUT, but I'm still unclear as to where you harvested them as I assume they're missing on all post-1997 sources (?)

The reason the Blu shots look superior to the v3 dvd is because of the superior resizing up to HD resolution.
I must disagree. When you look at it here in the forum, it's the original size of the GOUT DVD and yet the pic from Project Blu still looks much better than the one from V3, so I don't think resizing has much to do with it.
Someone tell this forum that it should not replace foreign letters with a questionmark ;-)
Try switching the site to Czech, I don't know why but for some reason that seems to work.
Surgery?
