See, the guy is using the Premiere broadcast captures, while the German HDTV captures were supposedly higher quality (I remember seeing some comparisons somewhere ages ago), I'd really like to see some comparisons of the BD with those. I don't have the original German captures in 1080p but some guys here do. Adywan?

Yeah, I'm now definitely decided to stick with the broadcasts as sources. The difference is so small, that it would be practically imperceptible in motion and I do not want to buy those Blu-Rays.

And what source did you use for the broadcast pics? It may be that there is an HDTV source that would look even better.

Is GOUT resented?
Time

Not to mention that you don't seem to understand what anamorphic means. When you play the 2004SE DVDs they are anamorphic, yet they do have the black bars at the top and the bottom to keep the original aspect ratio, if you watch the GOUT and don't zoom it (thus further decreasing the quality) you get huge black bars on all four sides.

Well, I propose (with making a new Special Edition version in mind, not from a purist point of view) that if something can't be made to look better (and at least to me when I look at that comparison, the original looks better and more realistic), there is no reason to change it. Especially if you're basically just recreating with CGI what's originally been done perfectly with practical FX.

Oh, and in the last sample, you can see pieces of the original DS on the edges of the CG one.

The "real 4 5 & 6" that he has complete creative control over...

Actually, if he decided to leave the Original Trilogy alone and release them unaltered in great quality, I'd be fine if he makes remakes that are his "true vision." I might even see them for comical effect, just so long as the actual Original Unaltered Trilogy sits proudly on my shelf.

This.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

@ffffff: I only have one vintage Darth Vader figure, all the others are new. My collection is pretty small but I have a nice little setup. I'll post a picture of it when I add the new stuff :-)

@Mondess122:

1. The covers are for the 14mm cases.

2. Actually I do plan to redo Empire (probably not using the Blu-Ray though) when I can get my hands on a cleaned up version of Puggo Strickes Back. But that probably won't be done in the near future. It may be months before ESB DeEd v2.0 is done.

@MBaden: I wouldn't mind you posting pics of your collection but there is a whole thread for it, so that may be better:

Little Men, Little Wars - Share Your Star Wars Collection

@ Murry Sparkles: Yeah, I know about the Han one, it should be fixed. The other is I think like that in the original.

@rennervision:

That shot of Luke had to be used from GOUT, so I'm affraid that's the best I can do with it.

That last shot isn't SD, I recreated the wipe to the GOUT credits from the HD shot.

@ UOTForever: You need to have them all in one folder and unrar the first one, that way it should automatically unrar the whole thing and you end up with an ISO file. Then you use IMGBURN to burn to a DVD-DL.

But you do have a point about the younger generation.  Most don't give a carp about ANY sort of history.

I don't give a carp about anything! I actually hate carp, it tastes like mud from the bottom of a lake (and I would know, since it's sadly a part of traditional Czech Christmas dinner).

But seriously, I'm also part of the "young" generation (I'm 23) and I do give a crap. I saw the SEs of ESB and ROTJ before I ever saw the originals but I gradually realized how much more interesting the OOT versions were and later even how crap some of the SE changes were.

SW wasn't very big in the Czech Republic before 97, so it was quite a quest to even find the originals on VHS, so I've been on a look out for a better quality version of the OOT for ages.

Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes

I've been updating the below post with whatever changes people say they have seen.  (some might be incorrect as it's usually just one person's pov)  Some have links to pic/vid if you'd like a placeholder.

One of the ESB changes mentioned is "the Falcon Cockpit is no longer zoomed in" can anyone confirm/deny that?

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Hi, I'm back from my holiday. I really enjoyed myself and I especially loved Edinburgh (didn't like London all that much to be honest).

I managed to do a lot of STAR WARS related stuff (STAR WARS isn't very big in the Czech Republic, so I always enjoy looking for SW related stuff when I'm abroad.)

I got to hold the SW Blu-Ray box sets in my hand (the empty pre-order samples) in HMV and it is indeed super ugly.

I went to the London Film Museum, which was pretty neat but unfortunately a lot of their SW stuff was borrowed by someone at the time but they had a rocking Ray Harryhousen exhibition.

Here are a few pictures: (Don't you just hate it when people insist on showing you pictures from their holiday

;-P )

I visited like four different Forbidden Planet stores looking for some action figures missing in my collection (ROTJ Luke, ROTJ Leia, OT Obi-Wan, OT Emperor) and was very disappointed that I couldn't find any of them except for ROTJ Luke.

On the bright side, I did find ROTJ Luke and a very cheap action figure of Jabba's fat dancer and a Sarlacc scene Skiff, also very cheap. And the first charity shop I set foot in had a VHS trilogy set I didn't have.

And as the cherry on top, I heard the STAR WARS Theme played on bagpipes in the streets of Edinburgh :-)

----------------------------------------------

Now back on topic:

re: 720p vs 1080p:

Yeah, I think I gave several clear reasons why this was 720p only. But I guess I'll have to repeat them:

A) 720p is easier to work with as my computer couldn't handle 1080p in AE (it's really slow even with 720p).

B) The despecializations would stand out even more, especially those where I had to use GOUT only.

C) 720p looks great even on really big screens (most theatrical prints don't have resolution much higher than that).

D) I don't have a BD burner, so I'm sticking with AVCHD and for that 720p is definitely better. Just look at this.

And E) Doing a 1080p version now would mean redoing the whole thing from scratch as I worked with 720p from the beginning.

---------------------------------------

re: covers

I'll see what I can do. I have some plans in the trilogy box area but I didn't start working on it yet.

---------------------------------------

re: missing part on MU: It's probably just temporarily unavailable, so try switching JD off for a few hours and then try again, it should work.

-------------------------------------

Now to v1.2:

I have now decided not to use the Blu-Rays for the new version of my edits, since there are even more changes and it is of course the exact same transfer. It's a pity about the compression artefacts but I just wouldn't feel safe using it as my source at least until it was scrutinized very thoroughly for all the new changes.

Now, I'm having quite a hard time keeping track of all the suggestions for v1.2, so if some kind soul could go through the thread and make a nice little list for me, that would be nice. Also, it would be good if you guys who send me suggestions via PM could repost them here, because it's practically impossible to find suggestion among the hundreds of PMs I have in my inbox. Thanks.

Please tell me it's Harmy pulling our legs.

Not this time, buddy. And I say that sadly. On the other hand, to be honest I'll never watch the Blu-Ray versions as they are, so sound changes don't bother me whatsoever because we have many talented people here who I'm sure will be able to fix these things absolutely seamlessly.

Now, the Ewok eyes, that's fucking creepy. The idea is pretty good to be honest (for a SE that is) because the Ewoks look awfully fake and this will make them more alive. But the execution is not that great, it really does make him look creepy.
