please participate and everything will fine.
Man, that makes no sense whatsoever. If they don't see anything, how can they leave comments?
Well, you need to understand that he's risking a lot by sharing his work with us at all and as far as I know, he never really stopped, just moved the operations somewhere more secure.
OK, a lot of posts since I last checked but to the main issue; the colours: I think everything that needed to be said was said by others. Thank you guys who backed me up on this, so I don't have to argue the points myself :-)
I also checked those screening photos again and they're surprisingly accurate for what they are.
As to the sound formats, to be honest I have no idea about the technical side of it and I plan to cross that bridge when I get to it.
Isn't telling people to grow up after they asked you in a civil way why you're mean to someone attacking them? I think it is. It's also what GL would do these days.
There's a link somewhere a few pages back. And I'm working on a new cover for the BD release.
Just got the next little part of the reference frames. If, as I'm hoping, they'll start coming faster now, this you'll be able to throw your parties soon, Puggo :-)
@The Griff: Yeah, I did that and the whole thing also looks hell of a lot better now.
Thought about it but in most shots it wouldn't be possible and mainly it isn't really necessary.
Hm, yeah, I could do that. Cool.
Yep.
Done and done. Next?
The one from 3P0 in the desert to R2 in the canyon?
I tried that but it's impossible to track properly, especially when the camera starts moving and things start changing perspective.
But you know what? I'll give it another shot!
OK, when I said crazy, I meant more like unreasonably nitpicky, not illogical
;-)
I'm still waiting for the reference frames. It's driving me slightly mad, I've already despecialized even the shots I didn't want to and the final colour pass is the last thing left to do. So if someone has some crazy suggestion they want to see done, now's probably a good time ;-)
Well, in that sense, you're not buying the edit, you're giving someone the money for posting you a "blank" disc. That's allowed, of course, as long as it's only covering the cost of the disc and postage.
One thing - you can not buy it!!! Ever! And if someone offered it to you for money, please refuse and report the person to the admins here!
I fully agree but they can only be instructive in that way if you're familiar with the original :-)
Well, a parody is something completely, absolutely different from a fan edit.
I sort of corned myself into an anti-fanedits position, I'm not against fanedits, not by a long shot. I'm just trying to explain why I don't think it's good to use a fanedit to introduce someone to a film in most cases.

But this "final cut" has not been provided - who will provide it, if not the fanedits? (please note that I have yet to encounter a fanedit that actually does a good job of this, but I know it is possible).
You know, in a way, that actually supports my point; I don't know this for a fact but from what you say, I assume there were fanedits that tried to make this "final cut" but failed, right? And what if someone's first experience with Superman II is one of these? That's my point, a fan editor may very well make a film better but he may just as well make it worse and I have no problem with that, as long as the people watching it are aware that they're watching a vision of some guy from the internets and are already familiar with the original material assembled by the people who created it or, yes, paid for it - then if the faneditor made the film worse, it doesn't form the viewer's opinion on it.

Should I feel wronged and disturbed as I saw 'West Side Story' before reading 'Romeo and Juliet'?
Yes.
If I was exposed to L.H.O.O.Q. before the Mona Lisa, is this transferred wrongness and disturbitude make me a degenerate?
No.

Recently I sat down with my seven year old son and introduced him to Star Wars. ANH seemed the right place to start and as for which version, well there was no contest.
My next dilemma is whether to wait for this edit to be completed before showing him ESB.
Having just read this, I must apologise to thecolorsblend and acknowledge that there is something to what he says. In light of this post, fanedits don't seem altogether as harmless as I'd have liked to think. The post shows that some people may actually be exposed to a fanedit of a film before they saw the original and there's definitely something wrong and disturbing about that.
Although I must say that STAR WARS and specifically Revisited is a bit of a special case, since Ady's version is is actually closer to the original cut than the official Special Edition, so I definitely think it's preferable for first time viewers to be shown Revisited than the Special Edition.
All that mirrored stuff is really weird. My brain was screaming "THIS IS WRONG!" the whole time. The rest was also very interesting.
You realize you can't just use any existing tracks as they are, right? Any sound you'll decide to include, you'll have to edit the same way you'll edit the video. So for example, when you keep the SE additions in Mos Eisley but cut the slapstick, you won't be able to use either any original mix, nor any SE mix. I'm just saying this because to this day I still don't get sound editing myself, it seems really difficult.
