Already got German from Luffy03 but thanks for the offer :-)

Yeah, I'm gonna include various foreign dubs and subs on the BD :-)
To be honest, it's not perfectly the same as the original, as it still has parts of the SE starfield, albeit muted. I simply reconstructed the original background from GOUT and put it under the SE footage from which I keyed out blacks.

No, I really added the grain really only in those two scenes, and even there pretty selectively. The thing is that when you un-crush the blacks, more grain that was previously hidden shows up. And also compression eats up a lot of grain, so that's why this higher bitrate encode looks overall more grainy.
And yes, the sky was corrected to be closer to the way it was originally :-)
All I can say is that there are at least 20 instances of this throughout the film to keep it in sync with the GOUT and this is the only one someone noticed.
So, I just went through 005's comparisons for SW, looking for stuff I may have forgotten to change back and I only counted about 10 shots that I'm not changing that aren't wipes. And those are all stuff like garbage matte removal or recomposites that look practically identical to the original.
Well, they probably wouldn't fit, since they're for the SE version.
Yes.
And see it you will! Don't worry, I didn't forget about my promise :-)
I might take you up on that when I get the new mix from hairy_hen, SirJonah.
As to those doubled frames, it was necessary because there was a missing frame but I already noticed this and put it in a place with less movement and it is now practically invisible.
Great news!
I don't know, the source is too low quality and there's too much compression artefacts to really tell anything from it.
What's your point?

What you, Harmy, could do is to encode the video stream using settings for BD compliancy. You can also take this video stream and mux it straight into mkv. You'll only need to make two encodes then, one for BD and mkv and the second one for AVCHD (both 2pass ideally).
If you want to use lossless audio then you'll be somewhat limited when it comes to formats. Bluray only supports LPCM, DTS-HD and TrueHD.
That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. I'll do the MKV (around 15GB for the video stream and with BD compliant settings) and then when I'm done designing the menus and putting together all the sound and subtitle files I want to include and possibly some bonus features, I'll just use the same stream for the BD.
Well, the MKV may but the AVCHD will be a DVD9.
Actually, I'm definitely doing the BD now but it will come out later than the AVCHD and MKV, because it will need some work to make a BD release worthwhile.

I know you said you're waiting on more reference frames Harmy, but are the Death Star's walls in that first Despecialized Edition v2.0 shot likely to stay that colour? Just curious, as they really seem too cyan, especially compared to the GOUT and the other DeEd shots.
I'll see about that depending on what the reference will show but you can't compare it to the GOUT, which is seriously desaturated.
As for the blaster bolts, though... fan-freaking-tastic! Did you do the same thing for all the blaster bolts in the opening Blockade Runner shootout?
Oh, no, no way in hell. I believe the lasers in the Blocade Runner shootout weren't changed beyond possibly, maybe being recomposited, but these that I changed are all new CG lasers.
Well, like I already said in the BD impressions thread, I lost most desire to see this in 3D, because today I watched TPM on BD (with the plinkett commentary mind you) and wow, is the transfer fucking ugly! I went and compared it side by side with the old HDTV capture and they are simply both awful, each in it's own unique way - the old transfer is heavily cropped, very soft and worst of all it has tons of really ugly ever present edge enhancement. The Blu-Ray on the other hand fixes all that but adds really really bad DVNR. The Phantom Menace is full of bad CG characters but in this transfer, even the real actors look like they're CG, seriously, with this transfer, the movie looks as if it was a Pixar film from late 90s! Both transfers are so bad that if I was to pick which one to watch, I'd probably choose to not watch this piece of shit movie at all. I think I'll pass on the 3D after all...
So, while waiting for the next batch of reference frames, I'm playing around a bit:
Thank you, I have been waiting for someone to finally notice that ;-)
So, I borrowed The Phantom Menace on BD from a friend and am watching it right now (with this commentary mind you). And wow, is the transfer fucking ugly! Huge! At this point, I'd definitely wait for v2, it should be done in a couple of weeks and it will be tons better than v1 in practically every aspect.

I finished watching Workprint 2.3, and I noticed 2 things:
11:25 - ATTACK OF THE JAGGIES. I know I've brought this up before, but these jaggies in the xwing still stand out to me. I really think manually rotating the xwing will avoid this issue. I'd be willing to take a shot at it myself frame by frame in Photoshop, if that would help.
I'll try but no promises. If you want to give it a shot, who am I to refuse, go ahead, if it works, I'll gladly accept it :-)
12:46 - As the shot fades from the explosions to Luke in the cockpit, the screen looks gray and blocky.
That's because it's from GOUT. They used an alternate take in the SE.
15:55 - The Rebel tactical table is too blue. I think this is an SE issue.
Thanks, been looking for that. I think there was maybe one more instance of that, so if anyone found it, let me know.
Reel 1 of WP3 looks good. I think everything I noticed has been brought up already. Since you're the one with the references, Harmy, I'll just trust in your color choices. FYI, the only way I would get WP3R1 to play was to download the latest version of VLC Player (the old version I had worked for all the other workprints and videos).
That's weird, I don't think I did anything differently this time.
BTW. I should be getting the IB print references for the rest of the reels soon, so this project is one step closer to completion.
Ooops, sorry. Well, the point still stands, just switch the word "your" with Danny Boy's.
