My STAR WARS Thesis; I need help!
Time

I have it, thank you. It's really great btw.

You're one of the people I knew could really help with this. I think I'll also use some of your savestarwars.com articles, if that's ok with you :-)

The thing is that it's really hard to even get any SW books here, because sadly, no one really gives a shit about SW in my country, so I have to do with sources that are available on-line.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

OK, guys. As some of you know I'm a university student and my major is English. Now, in order to finish my studies, I have to write a 30 - 40 page thesis.  I should have been working on this for ages but being the stupid lazy slob that I am, I kept neglecting it, as well as my other school stuff and procrastinated by working on my edits. Actually, I was hoping to have the edit done by now, so I could take a break from editing and work on it but it didn't exactly work out. Now I'm going to need your help to get this done as quickly as possible, because the deadline is getting dangerously close, which I didn't realize (I thought the deadline was a month later than it actually is) so I'm gonna have to stop working on the edit (or at least slow down quite a bit) until I'm done with the thesis.

Why I think you can help is because I was lucky enough to be able to choose STAR WARS as my topic (under the subject of "American Cutural Studies.") My topic is something along the lines of "STAR WARS, American Cultural Heritage."

I'd like to analyse what it it is that makes STAR WARS such a great cultural phenomenon and underline its importance as an American cultural landmark.

It's a little absurd that they want us to show critical thinking in the work but at the same time we have to back every single idea with a citation, so I need sources, lots of them. I turn to you because I know this place is an incredible well of knowledge on this subject and there are people here who can point me to the exact right places. I need quotations from documentaries, film historians, academic books etc.

The thing is, I need the exact places, it's like I've read The Secret History of Star Wars (and it was awesome too) but if I was to find some quote in there, I'd be quite lost.

I started a thread here, so if you can help, please post there but keep any discussion about the edit here, I need that thread to stay on topic.

Thank you!

Help me, OT.com, you're my only hope!

I'm very interested in how you go about warping one piece of footage to map onto another. I spent a lot of time working out algorithms for this a few years ago, and was pretty happy with the results, but would really like to hear more about your approach.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

You know, I am sorry if I sounded offensive, but these kinds of posts just get a little frustrating after a while.

Anyway, progress report: I'll be encoding reel 3 overnight today and if there's time, re-encoding reel two as well - I already encoded them both couple of days ago but found a few glitches I wanted to fix before I upload. I'm almost done correcting reel 4, so that should follow soon after. As far as I know, reels 5 and 6 shouldn't present any big trouble, so things could go pretty smoothly from there :-)

LOL, dude, did you somehow miss the point of this project? A few pages back we were having a heated discussion whether or not to restore burnmarks and scratches and wherever possible, I'm also restoring matte-lines. If I wanted stuff like that shadow fixed, why not just keep the SE shot?

And no, I'm not uploading any more videos to YouTube, because they get deleted within minutes and more and more of my older videos are getting blocked. I'm actually considering deleting my YT account.

Oh and that "move along" shot is totally old.

Cropping the Original Trilogy : 35mm vs dvd (gout)
Time

Well, there isn't much more left to say, short of confirming that the 2004 master is cropped less than the GOUT but still there is some cropping compared to all the information available on a 35mm print. I totally understand it being cropped; most damage usually appears on the edges of prints and even on the print, the edge of the image isn't always exactly the same, so you need to leave some space for that. What I absolutely don't understand is why on earth is every shot in every transfer cropped differently? Why would they do that? I'd understand every reel having slightly different cropping but why every shot? And the amount of cropping is so small that I don't buy that it's to keep the action in the centre. Also if they just cropped by the same amount on all sides, they'd keep the originally intended centre, which should be most desirable with this minute amount of cropping.

Hey Harmy in the first reel, shouldn't STAR WARS title card appear on frame 689?
You had it on 688 in the workprint.
Besides that, I found your GOUT-sync most impressive!

Thanks :-) You sure it's the wrong frame? It appears at the same time as my GOUT rip, which I have in a small PIP window to ensure sync.

Any idea if and when we'll get a look at WP3_3, Harmy?  Once we get to Mos Eisley, that's where things get reeeeeally interesting for 'DE-ing' the shots :)

Well, I'm already working on reel four but I keep going back to r3 and tweaking it and because it takes ages to render, I want to be satisfied with it before I do. I still want to re-render reel 2 as well.
