A summary of GOUT synced Video, Audio and Subtitle sources - WORK IN PROGRESS
Time

So, here's one entry redone according to my suggestion here with some further rethinking. The point of this is that it is the same mix and it is available at certain bitrates on certain releases, so you give the same information this way, as you do in your current list but it makes it easier to look for certain mixes. You don't have to use it of course :-)

***Star Wars***

Video:

1) 2006 DVD US NTSC (Widescreen and Fullscreen releases)

2) 2006 DVD Canadian NTSC (Widescreen and Fullscreen releases)

3) 2006 DVD Japanese NTSC

4) 2009 DVD Japanese NTSC (re-release)

5) 2006 DVD Brazilian NTSC

6) Dark Jedi V1

7) Dark Jedi V3

8) Moth3r - The Lucasfilm Pwnage Edition

9) g-force - GOUT image stabilized

10) EditDroid Star Wars 1977 Theatrical Release

11) Msycamore - Special Widescreen Edition (Technidisc)

12) Harmy's Despecialized Edition

13) LeeThorogood Replica Technicolor Project - (NTSC version)

 14) Darth Mallwalker's AviSynth IVTC script for Dark Jedi Standard Play Release

15) Darth Mallwalker's AviSynth IVTC script for Dark-Sega Release

16) Darth Mallwalker's AviSynth IVTC script for X9 Project

17) Darth Mallwalker's AviSynth IVTC script for The Starkiller's 1982 Video Rental Library VHS preservation

So just from a quick comparison, the Belbucus isolated score has the normal soundtrack where there's no music playing in the film, whereas the editdroid version has just silence there. Which do you guys think is preferable? Also I'd appreciate if someone with good knowledge of audio and maybe knowledge of the origins of the isolated score mixes could tell me which one is technically better. Also what about the ISOMix one? As is there a PCM version of any isolated score, for a possible use on the BD version?

The descriptive audio's already on the list :-)

The way I'd proceed with such a list would probably be to assign a number to each of the video sources and just add the corresponding numbers in brackets to each track on the soundtrack list.

So if DJ's V1 was number 6, Moth3r's Pwnage Edition was nuber 8 and the DeEd 1.0 was number 12 on the list of video sources, the entry for Belbucus' monomix restoration would read:

77 mono mix @ 96kbps ex Mono Mix Restoration Project (sources 6,8,12)

But as you can't be quite sure the exact same files were used for the same mixes in the different releases (I myself don't remember where exactly half of the audio tracks I'm using came from and if they've been recoded at some point) it probably wouldn't be as accurate this way.

On a related note, on your list, DJ's V3 is said to have the monomix at 128kbps as opposed to 96kbps on the other releases. Is this correct? And if so, is there any difference?

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)

Hairy hen, I just want to say that unless this is done to your full satisfaction by the time I want to start muxing and uploading, I think it better to let everyone mux it in themselves (it's extremely easy with MKV anyway) when it's done, rather than for you to rush anything because of the deadline I set for the mkv.

Also, if I can get it, I'd like to include a DTS-HD encode of your mix on the BD version in September.

Yeah, I'm not criticizing your method, it's probably better this way if you want to make a comprehensive list of available GOUT synced audio tracks. I was just saying that I find it a little confusing for my own purposes.

@Laserschwert: Do you (or anyone else) know if it's the same track as the Belbucus' iso score? Or if not, which one is better? Having two different isolated scores seems like a waste of space to me, unless of course the content was different, like if one contained unused music and the other didn't, which I doubt to be the case here though.

@moth3r: I'd love to include that. Where do I get it? Edit: NVM, got PM from someone.

@AntcuFaalb: The analogue vs. digital capture of the 77 stereo's been discussed before: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-AVCHD-DVD9-and-NTSC-DVD5-AVAILABLE-see-1st-post/post/589793/#TopicPost589793

@russs15: That's cool but a bit confusing to be honest. Too many options and many of them overlap (eg. the stereo and mono mix in mine is the exact same audio file as moth3r's etc.)

Rendering is in progress again and going very slowly (0.75fps), but as long as everything's fine in the encode, I don't really mind.

I'm still waiting for v2 of hairy_hen's 5.1 mix. If it's not ready before I have to start uploading to meet the 28 August release date (I'll have to start uploading on the 24th or 25th at the latest!) I'll use the older one and people will have to mux the new one in on their own.

On a related note, just wanted to report which audio tracks I have been able to collect so far and ask you guys if you knew about any other NTSC GOUT synced tracks I could use. So here goes; I have and will be using:

h_h's 70mm 5.1 (v1 for now)

1977 Stereo (probably will use the analogue capture)

1977 Mono (Belbucus VHS preservation)

1993 Stereo (LD capture)

Czech Stereo (the same VHS capture as v1.0 but with improved sync)

German Stereo (Improved version from Laserschwert with missing lines returned)

French Stereo (GOUT)

Italian Stereo (GOUT)

Spanish Stereo (GOUT)

Japanese Stereo (GOUT?)

Hungarian Stereo (1993)

Audio descriptive commentary Stereo

harmy brings up a very good point.

a 720p release of the data first would get people

something to work with first, in a much smaller

set, but still enough to work on.

Though I don't think that's what Harmy meant ;-)

I think it was just an example to point out that a 2k sized version of the raw version doesn't need to be in the terabyte region.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Even just a high bitrate 1080p h264 encode of the raw files would probably do nicely too and that wouldn't have to be over 50GB. I definitely wouldn't go under 1080p with this. Distributing anything as Tiff image sequence seems pretty dumb to me (no disrespect meant) as it will be unnecessarily huge without offering any substantial advantage in quality. Even a png image sequence would likely be a better choice but a freeware lossless video codec such as Ut Video or Lagarith would probably be the best choice.

And as to your personal convenience (which quite understandably has to be an issue) I'm convinced that encoding and uploading a 2K/1080p less than 200GB lossless video file would be more convenient (and less time consuming) than copying 6TB to an external HDD several times; The average speed of copying data to a USB HDD is around (usually under) 20Mb/s, so copying 6TB to a USB device would take days!

Well, I just did a backup lossless encode of my DeEd files with 8 bit Ut Video YUV 420 (ULY0) VCM x86 and the whole movie (and we're talking the same movie here) in 720p takes up 80GB. So I assume 2K would take up around 200GB. Much more manageable size and I'm sure that the majority of people who want the untouched scans would be ok with the solution. Just saying.

So, I was considering maybe ditching After Effects and trying out NUKE for ESB and ROTJ v2.0, as I was thinking about maybe applying for a job as a 2D compositor with Universal Production Partners and they require experience with NUKE software.

Does anyone have experience with this compositing software?

Please answer in this thread!

Yeah, I don't think that all frame numbers would come to the correct multiple of the GOP-size, so I'm not risking it.

Anyway, bad news. The encode was going so slow that I had to cancel it, because I'm leaving for a week tomorrow and I'm taking the computer with me and the encode wouldn't have been done in time. I won't have a stable internet connection there, so I won't be able to upload anything until next weekend, but I should almost definitely be able to finish encoding during the week, so Tuesday August 28 (my birthday) should be a definite public release date of the MKV version.

Sorry about this getting delayed again but you'll be getting a superior product thanks to it.

So you decided to post a comparison between an amateur digital scan of a 35mm 4th generation print and a professional digital scan of the original 35mm negative with over-extensive cleanup, where the latter has worse colours than the former? What did you want to show with that exactly?
