Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Like I said, something must have happened when I recoded it (that's what I get for using Premiere for something like that). I'm really sorry, I should have paid more attention to it.

Laserschwert and whoever sent me the Spanish track, do you still have the links, so that maybe I could just post those links at teh instead of reuploading?

EDIT: Sorry, you edited your post faster than I posted. I forgot it was in your dropbox. I guess we shouldn't post that link. I still have your orig. audio of course.

Oh crap, the Spanish track is definitely delayed and you're right, the German track is delayed by a tiny bit too, I didn't think to check the logo. I think the Spanish track was one of those I transcoded as well, so I guess it must be my fault, I'm sorry. I'll upload a synced tracks for both soon. If someone could please find or put together a tutorial on how to replace an audio file with MKV merge, I'd really appreciate it, I really need to study right now.

@ SithTrooper: I'm assuming you mean converting it to SD DVD, well, I certainly wouldn't recommend doing anything of the sort but it's up to you of course. If it was up to me, there would be no SD release at all but you've got to give the masses what they want ;-) And I'm leaving the SD DVD to Chewtobacca, because that way I know it will be top quality for what it is.

@ Hall 9000:

Well, the colours may seem similar to the SE, but only until you actually compare them side by side:

Harmy, I was checking the .rar file of those comparison pics between 1.0 and 2.0 (btw: 2.0 is wonderful). But they do not match correctly; for example, Luke's pic on the assault to the Death Star is zoomed in on 2.0. Another example (but less obvious) is that pic when Luke uses a lightsaber for the first time. Do you know why?

Yes, that's easy, in v1.0 they weren't despecialized at all, whereas in v2.0 they are and because the GOUT elements used were cropped differently, the DeEd shots had to be cropped accordingly.

Are images 1_00072.jpg and 1_00073.jpg mislabeled in the Google+ album?

This is a similar issue. While the v1.0 was despecialized, elements of a different matte painting were used. V2.0 is much more faithful to the original.

Lossless audio (at least the 5.1) will be available for separate download later.

Here are some more comparisons between v1.0 and Remastered.

The site however compressed the pictures, so there are a lot of compression artefacts, which are not present in the film

- compare this (imgshack) and this (picasa) - look at the chair behind Chewie.

so I also uploaded a folder with all the pictures in their original form (high quality Jpeg):

I recommend watching it as a fullscreen presentation in both cases.

Great work, Harmy!

one question though...  How come the V2.0 shot here looks so different from this shot that Mike posted?

I can't see the image, because imgshack is totally crapping out on me for some reason. But I remember that photo, and I guess the reason is simply that this is a photo taken from a movie screen. The references I have are scanned and do look a lot like my version.

Now that I answered this, let me repeat:

IF YOU FIND ANY PROBLEMS OR MISTAKES OR WHATEVER, PLEASE PM THEM TO ME AND DON'T POST ABOUT THEM IN THE THREAD. THE ONLY EFFECT POSTING ABOUT MISTAKES IN THE TREAD CAN HAVE IS YOU RUINING IT FOR SOMEONE ELSE!

I understand that the argument "you should have said something sooner, there were three workprints" doesn't apply for this above issue, since it was different in the WPs but it applies generally.

Yes, that scene was always this dark and was rather sloppily brightened for the SE. You'll also notice that the scene where Luke meets Ben is very bright - this look is also absolutely accurate to my IB source - It was so extreme that I was afraid to go there, so it wasn't that bright on any of the workprints but I decided to stay as accurate as possible in the end.

Hey guys, I have a question. Harmy has used a fade-free Technicolor print of Star Wars, so we can assume his restoration is 99,99% perfect in terms of colors. But what about crushed blacks that are present in the 2004 master used by Lucasfilm for the DVD and Bluray releases? Do you removed them with your magic skills, Harmy?

I'd say the colours are like 85-90% accurate - it's impossible to get any closer with non-professional equipment and software. Not to mention that colours that appear on film are practically impossible to reproduce 100% faithfully in digital, so even my sources weren't absolutely 100% accurate.

The crushed blacks are practically non existent on this release though, or at least no worse than on any other really decent trasfer of some other film. I'll be posting some comparisons with v1.0 very soon.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes guys :-)

@corellian77: Where are you downloading from? I didn't think it was on TPB? I don't really mind, since the whole point of withholding the release for two days (exactly 48hrs since I sent the first bunch of links to the uploaders) was to give the guys who agreed to reupload time to DL it before everyone else does, so if you're downloading from somewhere else than uloz.to, it doesn't really hurt this plan at all.

So I guess you guys who supported me here on the forum deserve a little pre-release. So as far as I know kickasstorrent is currently in the loop and builditup1, you can kick of the myspleen sharing as well. And some files are already up on alt.binaries.starwars and alt.binaries.hdtv, the correct on is the one saying [FIXED POST].

I will post the filesharing site link to teh on the release time I set before.
