Agreed :-)
Agreed :-)
Oh, didn't I say? I'm definitely starting with ESB. I was gonna do Jedi first because I thought SW v2.0 would have been done for months by now and I'd be releasing Jedi first, because I'd be waiting for PSB to be released. From what I've seen of Puggo's ROTJ print it doesn't seem to be in good enough condition to be a better source than a very good GOUT upscale (with You_Too and DJ's new script I am hoping for a better version of Lapti Nek) but it seems that with some cleanup, PSB could be a better source. Also, I will have to redo the colours because of using the BD and working with completely different software, and I'll probably be using Puggo's work as a colour reference.
I just received an outstanding for my thesis :-) Hope the final exams next Wednesday go just as well...
OK, it's all up.
Release date 28th August 2012 4pm PDT
I'm afraid that's not quite how it works. If you scaled the new Episode I 1080p transfer down to DVD resolution, it wouldn't look any better either.
Current upload speed fluctuating between 1.5 and 2.9MB/s. God bless uloz.to.
We may yet make the 28th August release date. Well for US residents anyway :-)
I don't currently have v1.0 here, so I can't take screenshots from it but I'll post some when I get home.
Info about download will be posted on tehparadox.
Finally a decent connection. I'm staying at my uncle's in Pilsen tonight and I'm currently uploading at over 1MB/s. The only problem is that the connection is a bit unstable, so I'm not sure it will get done overnight.
They're in a big hurry to get the originals out there while keeping George's preferred order :-)
@CatBus: Well, since it took about ten minutes to do it, it's no problem. I'm not sure I have the 93 tracks for ESB and ROTJ though. I also noticed that the one I did could do with increasing the volume of the commentary to be level with the 93 track, so I'll probably be redoing that for the BD.
@Moth3r: I actually meant the over-all picture quality (mainly less to no compression artefacts - and I already have a sample of what the AVCHD encode will look like and even that is loads better - and the lack of crushed blacks makes it all look a lot better too). The unfortunate side effect of this increase in quality is that although most of the Despecialized shot were improved, it actually makes those that couldn't be further improved (mainly some of the not so great looking GOUT shots) to stand out a little more.
I'm really really happy with the way the lightsabres turned out in the end too.
I wouldn't say hell of a lot, What is 2GB nowadays? Anyway, the upload is already under way.
I just skimmed through v1.0 after not having seen it for some time and the quality is laughably bad compared to v2.0, seriously, even I was surprised :-)
Only the original mixes and one dub is what I'm going to do for the AVCHD, since the space there is limited. The advantage of an MKV is that the file size is not limited, so I am including all the audio in ac3 and people can mux in lossless if they want, which will otherwise be on the BD only. The final size of the mkv is 15.7GB, which is the size I always announced (and also a perfect size to split it to 2 DVD9s - though if you wanted AVCHD, you'd have dump some of the audio, because of the huge overhead of the m2ts container), so I don't see a problem with it :-)
I started uploading about an hour ago but the upload speed on my current connection is very slow (30-40Kbps) so it will take some time. I'm also creating par2 recovery files.
OK, cool :-)
OK, little change of plans, It's 2am here, I'm really tired and need to go to bed now. I can't even face the muxing and packaging and stuff right now (it'll probably take at least an hour too), so it'll just have to wait 'till morning (you know what with all the sand people around). I'll set an alarm to get up in two hours, to hopefully start the download of h_h's audio, so that it's done in the morning and I can start muxing right away. I should definitely be able to have it uploaded by the 28th anyway but I wanted to have it on the 26th, because then there are those two days reserved for my uploaders, so in a sense it will still get released on my birthday but the general public release may be moved to the 29th or 30th.
Thanks :-) Yeah, this information shouldn't be bellowed at all, it'd best be whispered conspicuously :-)
Thanks! I would have run it through spellcheck before wrapping up but half of the words there would get underlined :-)
Well, here's the situation: I have my thesis defence on monday, so I'll have to go to my Pilsen (where my uni is) and I'll need my laptop with me. For the better part of tomorrow I'll be on the road unable to be uploading, so unless I start uploading tonight, there's no way I'll meet the 28th August release date. And I really want to. But I'm comunicating with h_h trying to resolve the situation.
OK, in one hour from now, I'll take all the mixes I have by then and start muxing, packing and uploading.
Here's the readme file I plan to attach to the MKV, let me know if I forgot anything important:

This is a reconstruction of the 1977 theatrical version of STAR WARS. The original shots were painstakingly restored using various different sources (listed bellow) and the film received an extensive shot by shot colour correction based on a fade free 1977 I.B. Technicolor Print.
The audio options include all three 1977 mixes; the original 70mm six-track was recreated by hairy_hen, the original stereo mix was captured from LaserDisc and the original mono mix was restored by Belbucus. Also included are two isolated score tracks (by Belbucus and Editdroid,) a commentary track from the 1993 LD release and a British commentary for visually impaired. An assortment of foreign audio and subtitle options (listed bellow) is also a part of this release.
VIDEO SOURCES:
1) STAR WARS Episode IV A New Hope Official Blu-Ray 2011 (Preliminary colour correction by You_Too)
2) STAR WARS 2006 Bonus DVD (sourced from the 1993 Definitive Edition Laser Disc Master - upscales by Dark Jedi, You_Too and Harmy)
3) Star.Wars.Episode.IV.A.New.Hope.1977.720p.HDTV.x264-DON (2004 DVD Version)
4) STAR WARS 1997 Special Edition (Reivax DTV capture)
5) Cutom mattes, 35mm and 70mm film cell scans etc.

The subtitles are stored in an external folder, if you want to watch with subtitles, take your chosen subtitle .srt file from the
"Subtitles - Project Threepio" folder, copy it to the folder with the .mkv file and rename the .srt file to the same name as the .mkv file,
while keeping the .srt extention.
@flynn: I honestly don't remember what it was like for me to see the whole film in English for the first time. I did hear the actors' voices in subtitled making ofs and stuff before I saw the whole movie in English (which I think wasn't until the 2004 DVDs). I remember listening to some George Lucas interviews and thinking it sounded really cool. It was actually probably the subconscious driving force behind my study of English :-)
Cool, thanks :-)
Oh, sorry, I must have lost that. Anyway, if you can get it to me within two hours bttfbf, I'll be happy to include it in the MKV and I see no problem with including it on the BD.
@budwhite: What CatBus said. Most of the time I prefer to watch Star Wars in English but from time to time I like to watch it with the original Czech Dubbing I grew up with and have quite a bit of nostalgia for - may the proof of that be me spending all night about a week ago, trying to make this hissy, crackly mono VHS capture to sync with the DeEd and clean it up a bit, even though I knew nothing about audio editing and it was hell for me :-) I also want to be able to show SW to my little brother :-)
@bttfbrasilfan: What about them? I said it will have the same audiotracks as the MKV.
@budwhite: The aim of Ady's project is completely different, so I don't see your point at all there. I myself am immensely looking forward to watching Ady's ESB:R! I would probably be looking forward to Lucas' next Special Edition, if just out of curiosity, if he released the original in decent HD.
LOL :-) How about re-remastered ;-) I'd probably simply go back to 3.0 or actually, if I am ever to do another version, I'll be using 35mm HD scans for the original shots and despecializing everything including the wipes and such, so maybe I'd drop the Despecialized Edition title completely and call it something else, like say, STAR WARS The Original Theatrical Version Remastered ;-)
So, how does it look with the upload of the AC3? I'd really like to start muxing and uploading! It's already 8:30pm here.
