Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

What, are you kidding? Of course the extras will be in HD. Some will even be 1080p. And seriously, what do I care about people still using only DVD? Should I make a VHS version too? It's 2013.

Edit: Just to avoid confusion and unnecessary questions, there will be an SD DVD of this but it will be the only SD content I will make.

Yeah, well, you can see some compression artifacts when you're looking for them but a lot of them are already in the source and the BD really won't be that different. I was actually thinking about lowering the bitrate of the BD encode a bit - not much, it would still be quite a bit higher than the AVCHD but enough to be able to put in more lossless audio tracks and not to have to compromise too much on the bitrate of the extras.

Currently the AVCHD is set to average bitrate of 6500 and max. of 15000 and the settings I used for the v2.0 MKV (and I was going to use for the BD) were avg.15000 and max. 40000, and considering how little difference there is between the v2.0 AVCHD and MKV, I guess going with something like 12000 average and 30000 max could make the encode smaller with very little loss of quality.

The second, I think. Making a list of important projects throughout history, preferably with links to their threads or webs would be a great first step and it's exactly what I need help with. The final length isn't really important for now. So, you guys can post suggestions and then we can discuss them and I'll always update the first post with the ones we decide on including.

I'm still hoping for a more detailed explanation about PSB as a reference - I know Ady is using it as a pretty literal reference (although he is taking some liberties but I think he believes those to then be different from theatrical color timing) and I'd like to know if there's some proof beyond "it looks like it's not faded" that the PSB is the closest color reference. You know, I'd really like to know whether I can trust PSB the same way as I did with the IB print for Star Wars - i.e. not keeping 100% perfectly faithful to it but keeping very close to it. Because at first glance PSB looks a bit wrong to me in some scenes but it could be for the same reason the IB print did look wrong but in the end we accepted it as a good reference and got used to those colors, even though they were differnt from what we were used to watching on discolored video releases. But in the case of the IB print, that was conclusively proved to be non fade material, plus there were several of them and the colours were the same (or close enough) on each of them - is there any such empirical evidence of the PSB colors being similarly correct?

I do actually have an add on USB3 card. Unfortunately only one of my USB3 HDDs works with it.

The GPU's pretty bad, but I don't really play games, so it's not that much of a problem. 3D effects in After Effects are pretty slow but I don't use those much either.

As to the menu, I was actually thinking about MultiAVHCD but I'm not sure what its capabilities are or how complicated it is. I do have Adobe Encore, that came with Premiere CS5.5 but I can't quite seem to figure it out.

Another question, I found out that dts-hd doesn't play on my system, neither as a separate file, nor muxed in with a movie. Why could this be?

Well, remaster actually means (or it should) creating a new master from scratch. Which is why I called v2.0 DeEd Remastered; it's not a remaster of SW, it's a remaster of the Despecialized Edition.

Also, AntcuFaalb, here's my current set up:

OK, lets talk color references, because this time around, I'll be doing a 1st pass color correction before anything else. I'm sort of still inclined towards saturation boosted GOUT with red balance compensated for as a main source. There's Puggo Grande of course but I looked it over and I'm not sure I really want to use it as my main color reference. Was the original film really THAT blue? Are there any other reliable references?
