Thanks for uploading :-)
Thanks for uploading :-)
It should hopefully work now :-)
Thank for all the nice comments guys :-)
Also, check out the little clip in the ESB thread.
Yeah, unfortunately, from experience, this would probably get blocked on YouTube within minutes.

W-O-W!!!!
I do LIKE your voice AND I absolutely LOVED the "featurette".
Your diction is clear, I had no trouble at all understanding you, and I'm brazilian!
Yeah, I was recording that with foreign audience in mind :-)
The only room for improvement IMHO would be the "DESPECIALIZED" title treatment. It is a bit too simple/crude when compared to the overall utterly professional work you've done.
IMHO, the "Despecialized Edition" logo that appears on 10m55s is a lot better, for example.
I like the logo this way - pure and simple.
Also, I hope it's not too late to mention, but I've noticed a "shake" in the position of the red turbine of the x-wing fighter on the left side, at 8m19s aprox.
It's supposed to do that - it did in the original :-)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as Empire was the least "damaged" movie of the OT, it might be easier for you to "fix" it?

OK, here's the comparison video. The color correction is just a temporary, one setting for the whole clip kind of deal but you'll see there's much more going on here than just color correction.
Color boosted GOUT.
But I guess I should really have made it a comparison. I think I'll still do that.
So, I have another anniversary surprise for you guys. It is very much work in progress but it should be interesting nonetheless:
@Laserschwert: No, it's the same. There may still be some tweaks on the BD version of this but nothing big.
OK. I was hoping to have a release ready by now but since real life interfered, I can't release the BD on today's anniversary of the original premiere.
I did however decide, as a little premiere anniversary present to you guys, to release a little documentary that I was going to keep for the BD, which maps out all the sources used in Despecialized Edition v2.5 and give you a little peak behind the rontoscoping :-)
Not quite true - yes, technicolor prints may have looked a bit different, but likely not substantially so - what I saw of the LPP print used by Team Negative 1, it matches the I.B. print quite closely in most cases.
I'm sorry, but how and where exactly are you being belittled?
Some people are really touchy, aren't they?
And I'm behind CatBus on this one, I don't believe for a second that someone's memory is a good color reference ever. I think I wrote enough on the subject in the Indiana Jones thread :-)
Here's a sample from DJ and You_Too's Project Blu V2, showing what happens when you dig out the colors from the faded GOUT transfer:

I've wanted to do this ever since I saw this picture of Mark Hamill:
LOL :-D
The logic here is that you should own the official HD version to (more or less just morally) justify downloading an HD fan edit/preservation. This is the rule for all HD fan edits and preservations, not just this one.
They are absolutely the same frames - they even have the same specks of dirt.
Gentlemen, please!
It really moves me to hear that, dude. Truly. One of the main reasons I made the DeEd was to be able to show Star Wars to my little brother when he's old enough (which he will be pretty soon) and maybe one day to my kids (although I'm sincerely hoping that if/when I have kids there'll be an even better version to show them - like a 4K scan of the reassembled ON, though that's probably just wishful thinking) so the fact that the DeEd's being used to introduce Star Wars to the new generation really makes me happy :-)
In other news, I have finished all the changes planned for v2.5 (there are very few) but I still have a lot of school work to do, most of which requires me to use my computer, so right now, I can't have it bogged down by rendering for two days plus. But hopefully, I will catch a break soon and will be able to move on to authoring the BD disc. I also still don't have any of the lossless audio tracks except for h_h's 5.1.
Or you could show him The Phantom Menace. Kids love The Phantom Menace :-) And when he's older, he'll realize on his own that it sucks. Or he won't - but then you'll have failed as a parent :-D
It think I will actually do a shot by shot CC on FOTR after I'm done with the SW DeEd BD. I did some tests and in some scenes, like the whole prolog for example, the colors of the FOTR BD are so different that it's nearly impossible to adjust them to look like the DVD without introducing ugly artifacts, so in those cases I'd put the chroma from the DVD over the luma of the BD - I already tried this out and it works pretty well but the framing is different, so even that approach requires shot to shot adjustments.
I also figured out a way to adjust the settings in MPC with ffdshow for when I watch the FOTR BD on my laptop, that doesn't bring it anywhere near the DVD colors but gets rid of the green tint and makes the colors more natural and makes the BD look much better.
Right click > Filters > ffdshow video decoder > properties
A window pops up and there I check the picture properties box and set:
Luminance gain:133
Luminance offset: 1
Gamma correction: 1.00 (off)
RGB gamma correction: 1.00 (off), 0.93, 0.97.
Hue: 0 (off)
Saturation: 64 (off) (one could decrease the saturation a bit depending on preference)
Colorize strength: 0
At the top, you can click Only right half and you can see the difference nicely in split screen.
I just bought the Fight Club on BD and the colors seem pretty great but the picture seems to suffer from artificial over-sharpening.
So this is interesting:

The problem with that is, how do you select which scenes to use from which source? I for one (having only seen screenshots from the WOWOW mind you) prefer the BD in a vast majority of scenes.
