Have you tried looking at the old DVD or VHS releases?
Have you tried looking at the old DVD or VHS releases?
When I was forced to watch the prequels in a Star Wars marathon, I made everyone watch the Holiday Special first. It was a great idea.
what version of the OT did you guys watch?
This was at least a year ago, so whatever Despecialized Edition was most current, and the Grindhouse ROTJ. If I did it today, I would definitely choose to use 4K77. Not a knock against Despecialized, but it’s due for an update.
I can’t imagine how that would feel. Very sorry for your loss.

Online dating sucks. Everyone around me is a hick.
Are these separate complaints? Also wrong thread.
What do you mean? They can be separate, but they’re also related. I’m out in bumfuck nowhere.

I don’t really like anything from the Star Wars cartoons outside of Ben meeting Maul again. That should have been Episode III. Instead we got Grevious…
Picnic at Hanging Rock – I need to rewatch this tomorrow. I’m not quite sure I followed it much.
Fantastic news! Looking forward to your next post!
Mad Max 2 – I was not expecting this to be so good.
Neverending Story is fantastic. Much better than Labyrinth.
If you want the 81 crawl, splice it in yourself. Make a branching dvd/bluray yourself. But don’t get snooty if people say, “that’s not the goal of this project”
Maybe if the people who said that were actually involved with the project cough cough Williarob cough, there would be less snoot.
How old were you when you first saw it?
And that would be preferable since mfm is one of my favorite members here.
Mine too.
I prefer the first one too.
Except that the revised crawl first appeared in theaters in 1981, so it’s still a theatrical preservation.
This is a 1977 theatrical preservation. It’s not 4k81 or 4k97 or any other revisionist versions.
Why not both? It’s just the crawl. I like options.
From the sound of that, I agree. I can’t recall any memorable villian from the Marvel movies other than Loki and Purple Karen Gillian (and only because I know who Karen Gillian is).
Sorry to be pedantic, but she’s blue, not purple.
Holy crap, I forgot I even posted that. Pretty sure I said purple because of the Thanos relation.
any chance of someone making an “a new hope” crawl for this?
I doubt it, if they did it would no longer be a theatrical preservation.
To me, that was the first warning shot across the bow that Georgie was not
content and would alter the film further. Every time I see it I get a little angry.
That’s a bit silly.
TN1 had it as an extra in their Silver Screen Edition, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be an option. Though nothing gets me more excited than seeing the original crawl.
I don’t know why but I always find mfm’s nihilistic responses to be refreshing and welcome. Maybe cause I am such a pessimist at times.
Me too, I don’t get what the fuss is. That he’s consistently himself?
I can’t comprehend how anyone could even consider rewatching the Holiday Special.
I like it. I especially like introducing it to other people. That and Song of the South.
Wow, just wow. I can see where some people would have issues with the movie, but it’s a product of it’s time, only a few years past the super campy era of Batman.
Yeah, but I’m not a fan of Batman '66, either.
:’-(
Whatever you do, don’t just randomly start rapping “Going Back To Cali” by Biggie Smalls to all of them, as tempting as that may be.
Would this be a better choice?
allol
I am in the same situation, Ash.
The Disney movies aren’t worth hating. They simply exist. But they’re decent movies. I don’t love them, but they’re fine.
The prequels are just awful, though.
therapists are a waste of time for me.
Fixed. I would never discourage anyone from seeing one if they thought it might help. I would only try to keep their expectations realistic, it won’t “cure” them instantly, they’ll have to work at it, and possibly try a few different ones before finding somebody who works for them.
No, I haven’t, but I hear it doesn’t really do much in improving the film. I wish it were easier just to get the theatrical cut on Blu-ray. Seems all I have are several extended cuts to choose from.
Is it too late to donate and get an invite to that screening? 😃
Not that I wouldn’t donate otherwise. An OT.com meetup and screening sounds fantastic, though.
