I hate to be that guy, but is using VLC an option?

I don't know why there's a big difference, but it worked perfectly! Thanks, AntcuFaalb.

Although, it looks a little different... I think I'll get used to it, but I have no idea why it does.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I'm having trouble jumping to other chapters in the AVCHD version. Each time I try, the video stream stops, although the audio continues to play.

Additionally, whenever I try to change the audio from the default, it freezes.

I am using Media Player Classic, by the way.

Please, could someone help me out? I'd like to show this to a class sometime this week, some of whom have never seen Star Wars. I'd like to show them the very best there is to offer. Thank you in advance.

I love those photos! If only Jo could return for a season...

I've gotta say, this Jamie Mathieson fellow has now penned two of my favorite episodes of Series 8 - Mummy on the Orient Express was great fun, and Flatline was just...awesome. And slightly terrifying. Looking forward to more from him in the future!

If you say Flatline was better than Mummy on the Orient Express, I can't wait to see it. Mummy is my #1 episode so far this series.

I saw something neat at the book store yesterday. It was a book with all three original books of the OT in one book called the "Star Wars Trilogy". Also, they called the first book Star Wars, not a New Hope, and I know that the title of the original Star Wars book was changed to A New Hope. This means they've changed the title back to Star Wars, which I think is really awesome, even if it is just for the original 1976 book.

I've got an older edition of that book published in 1993, and inside it says the First Trade Edition was published in 1987, so this isn't actually a new book; it's just a newer edition of the same old book.

Still though, the name of Star Wars was changed to A New Hope, and in this book, they didn't alter the title. The sticker on the front of the book also said, "Includes Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi".

The fact that they did not feel the need to emphasize A New Hope, or episode numbers for that matter, is a great sign for me.

Was this the Barnes and Nobles exclusive thing? I've seen that sitting next to Hitchhiker's Guide, the Bible, and the Art of War, of all things.

Every publicly released version of every film should be made available.  Simples.

And, yet, it's so hard to do for some reason.

It's not hard. There was just an unwilling owner for 35 years.

I wasn't talking specifically about Star Wars. Close Encounters, ET, Amadeus, and the Lion King are just a few which did not get (or have not gotten) every version of the film made available in one format.

Believe it or not, Lucas isn't the only one who tampers with films.

Wait a minute, does Ben ever know who Leia even is in the OT version of events? It is assumed that he knew who she was from the hologram, but he may not have had any communication at all with the outside world in 19 years, and may never have learned that Leia was the princess in the hologram. He never actually says that Leia is Luke's sister, only that Luke's 'insight' serves him well. He could very well be in the dark about this 'other', and seeing that Luke has some idea about who it could be, he thinks that the galaxy's best bet is for Luke to trust his instincts once again. So it could very well be that Leia is in no way related to Luke, and that the 'other' is still at large. This also raises interesting questions about whether Ben is actually a presence in the galaxy or simply a presence in Luke's head.

I highly doubt that Episode 7 will go this route however.

Brilliant. I want to see that movie.

PAL would play at the wrong speed...

For me NTSC is the wrong speed, because in cinema it has originally 24FPS, and the 25FPS from PAL are more close to it, than the 29,97FPS from NTSC, also PAL has a bigger resolution from 720x576, but NTSC just 720x480. Also PAL uses a better Color-System than NTSC.

...

But maybe it's just because I'm from Europe and you have to slow down any European language audio to fit to NTSC. Maybe you can give me a reason why NTSC is better, but I don't think so.

Well, movies aren't sped up to reach NTSC's 29.97fps. They're put through a 3:2 pulldown process that preserves the speed of the film. This can cause judder, sure, but as someone from an NTSC country, I don't notice it at all.

Plus, most movies on DVD are encoded in such a way that preserves the 24fps (well, 23.976fps) speed of film - they're on the disc at 24fps, but a flag is set so the 3:2 pulldown is performed by the player. In fact, many Blu-Ray players nowadays can play an NTSC DVD at 24fps exactly, bypassing the 3:2 pulldown altogether.

PAL, on the other hand, speeds everything up by 4% to get to 25fps, making everyone's movements slightly too fast and unnatural, and raising the pitch 4% as well, making the music unbearable to listen to and causing everyone to sound like they took a shot of helium before doing their lines.

So no, PAL's 25fps is NOT closer to the 24fps film standard than NTSC, because even though NTSC is 29.97fps, the 3:2 pulldown applied to get there preserves the speed of the film, which you can't do with acceptable quality in PAL. (I've seen 24>25fps done through pulldown, preserving speed, and it looks terrible.)

For me, preserving the film's speed is more important than a few extra lines of resolution and this "better color" that my eyes will never be able to discern.

What about PAL video converted to NTSC? Any problems there?
