I went to pirate bay and downloaded v2.5, the regular 18 gb .mkv file, not one of the smaller re-codes I have seen a few places.
Opening the containing folder and playing the movie on WMP, the only sound I'm getting is the score. No dialog or sound effects. Is this a known issue, or something that I will be able to correct if I burn it and play on a blu ray player, or am I missing a (particularly important) file?
Picture looks great (that Harmy is the man goes without saying), and the movie is complete and seems to have no other issues
Use a different video player. WMP is using the isolated score track, you'll have to use a video player that supports more than one audio track.

That's all we get? Details, man!
The thread was a rant over how someone put their name next to the real copyright on some cover art. The argument was something like, "Since his name is right there, it's like he's claiming he has rights or something." He also mentioned the specific user that caused the outburst, but I forget which.
Wish I got a screencap before it was too late.

This thread should be retitled "The Thread Which Wouldn't Die".
NEVER FORGET
It has arisen from the grave once more.
Okay, what the heck was under the covers if it wasn't a creature?
Episode 1's theatrical cut is on VHS. I think the DVD might have extended the pod race.
I believe Harmy has said that the only way to obtain the theatrical cut of ATOC would be to get a bootleg recording of the film in the actual theatre.
Well... they never actually tried to hit eachother...
Thanks, those are pretty sweet.
Stinky Dinkins, I've got those same covers, but I don't know what that inside art is. What is it?

There are just certain parts of the SE which I..liked...more......I reckon you're in the wrong thread, pardner.
...As for the latter, the only changes I liked are the recomposited shots...
I reckon you're in the wrong thread, pardner.

I thought the 2004 version actually wasn't a rushed project but just lazily done?
Either way, it led to a crap release.
Unfortunately, I am too young to have seen even RotJ in theatres.
Coincidentally, my first Star Wars film was RotJ anyway. It was a DVD-Bootleg of the '97 SE LD, before the official '04 release (strangely, no one remembers buying it, and I didn't know what it was until after joining OT.com). I saw this one over and over again.
For TPM, it was the original P&S VHS. I remember being bored by it... still am.
As for Empire and SW, I saw the '04/'97 versions at least twice on television or at a friend's house. Actually, maybe I saw the GOUT of SW, because I don't remember the Jabba scene until much later in life.
For AotC, I only saw it at a friend's house over a decade ago. Haven't seen it since.
I saw RotS at theatres... needless to say, everyone thought the ending was awesome (NOOO notwithstanding). I later saw it on DVD.
Then, many years later, I first saw the theatrical versions of the SW trilogy from the DeEds (missed the GOUT release), and absolutely fell in love with Star Wars again. So, thanks for that, guys.
And this is why a business man should not be in charge of creative choices.
That red-brownish color is only there because the print has faded. It's not really supposed to look like that.

Let's say you were asked to come up with an idea and setting for a twenty odd episode per season new series of Star Trek to be aired in 2016. What would you characters, setting, and story be. it can be anything as long as it would work in the Tv and not movie format.
I'd simply go with a reboot of TOS that remains faithful to the spirit of original Trek while also embracing modern storytelling and character development.
So, like Star Trek Continues? Or like a TV version of the new movie crew?
I remember someone mentioning that before; I think Harmy missed it. It is a bit jarring, isn't it?

Some people report problems using jdownloader to unrar rars. Try 7-zip.
Listen to Frink, Conquistador, and let us know if that helps. Also, the last part is supposed to be smaller, like Harmy said earlier. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

The problem with the SEs is that the cgi is there just to show off what cgi can do, not to add anything to the films. Tech demos age because their entire purpose revolves around them being up to date. The SEs are tech demos, therefore they've aged. The SEs are more like a video created to demonstrate the PS1 than they are like a PS1 game.
This post is absolutely perfect.

Well, other than the changes of course, the SE's looked pretty good for the time when they were released in '97 in my opinion.
I don't think there is any such thing as "looking good for the time". People's ability to distinguish between what looks real and what looks fake hasn't ever changed as far as anyone knows, much less in the past 17 years.
Well, people's standards change. Look at a PSOne game. It looks terrible by todays standards, but back in the day it was state-of-the-art! Same with Toy Story (although not so bad as the PSOne game)!
If we're talking about movies, "looking good for the time" relies on what people will accept in a movie without taking them out of it. A sort of "suspension of disbelief", if you will.Without a doubt, special effects age. In 1997, the effects were state-of-the-art, and people could look at them without breaking their suspension of disbelief. Nowadays, that isn't the case.
You're right, and some of the SE CGI looked ok at the time, but CGI Jabba looked horrendous from the beginning. I remember not even looking forward to that scene when I saw it in the trailer because it looked so cheap and poorly done.
Yeah, Jabba is an exception. That always looked bad.

Hey guys,
Hate to bother everyone, but I just got the Despecialized edition (Which has completely floored me with it's quality, by the way) through Jdownloader and the .mkv file keeps crashing around the 15:45 mark. I tried seeing if skipping past would but the file would crash at any point beyond 15:45. I haven't used Jdownloader before, so i'm not sure how to proceed. I'm using VLC player to watch the movie and running MacOS. If anyone could help out, that'd be totally awesome!
Thanks!
This happens when not all the parts have been downloaded correctly. If you still have the .part files, check to see if all but the last one are the same size. If you find that, redownload that part and put them back together again.
If you deleted the .part files, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry, but you're going to have to redownload them all again. Just check to see if their sizes match.
SW 2.5.1 if 2.6 is too big a jump?

...but I don't know if that makes sense, I'm just guessing at this point.
That's basically the entire thread in a nutshell.
I just took a look at the new documentary, and it's very good! I quite enjoyed it. I just have one suggestion:
When you mention recompositing in your "interview", you only show the early 90s Czech VHS. Instead, why not show an example of recompositing in the film to better demonstrate your point? I can't offer a good example other than lightsabers that would be readily apparent to the average viewer, but I'm sure you can come up with one.

Here's the latest screenshot from a deleted scene. Still needs work on the upscaling aspects.
Crazy. Everything looks so much more defined to me.
