Politics 2: Electric Boogaloo

Trump spent much of his speech – which he gave in front of a memorial wall that honors the 117 CIA officers who have fallen in the line of duty – focusing on the size of the crowd size at his inauguration, his appearance on magazine covers and saying he “has a running war with the media.”

“Former CIA Director Brennan is deeply saddened and angered at Donald Trump’s despicable display of self-aggrandizement in front of CIA’s Memorial Wall of Agency heroes,” Nick Shapiro said in a statement. "Brennan says that Trump should be ashamed of himself."

DEEP SIX - Hard SciFi With Practical FX
Time

Fascinating, thread deserves a bump. I’m a bit curious though, for me, great sci-fi has always relied on good characters and themes, not science, which is more often a backdrop than anything.

I’m also a bit confused as to what this fundraiser is supposed to do, since it seems they’ll be able to complete their first episode regardless of its success.

Yeah but Dems suck at midterms.

The current situation isn’t really business-as-usual, so that might change if the next couple of years are as awful as predicted. Keep in mind there are a lot of new voters who weren’t able to vote in the 2014 mid-term election who seem to be very politically-active now, and tend to vote Democrat. If that momentum lasts, then the result may surprise us.

Moreover, Brian Knight of Brown University writes about the “presidential penalty,” which has historically meant that the party of the sitting president will lose seats in the midterm elections. Pew writes that “since 1842, the President’s party has lost seats in 40 of 43 midterms–the exceptions being 1934, 1998 and 2002.” Including the 2014 midterms, that tally rises, as Democrats lost even more Senate seats.

Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, former First Lady Barbara Bush, have both been hospitalized, his spokesman said Wednesday.

President Bush, 92, was admitted to intensive care at Houston Methodist Hospital to address “an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia. Doctors performed a procedure to protect and clear his airway that required sedation,” his spokesman, >Jim McGrath, said in a statement.

Barbara Bush also was admitted to the hospital Wednesday morning as a precaution after “experiencing fatigue and coughing,” McGrath said in the same statement.

Hopefully they’re both ok.

I’ve been feeling this would happen since the start of the year, Bush 41 has been in poor health for awhile. Here’s a favorite clip from his presidency:

Yeah everyone already knows that. Are you guys trying to suggest that Fox is the reason the OOT hasn’t been released? Because boy, that’s a good one…

Think about this from a business perspective. We’ve received multiple reports that they’ve restored the OUT but there’s been no sign of a release. Why is that? Here are the two options:

  • Release them now and let 20th Century profit off the work you invested into restoring them
  • Wait until you’ve fully secured the rights for two-thirds of the trilogy and only split the profits for one film

Which sounds like the smarter business decision?

That makes sense, thanks for explaining it clearly without insults. But we still don’t have all the info on how that restoration was made, wouldn’t Disney have to talk to Fox to even start restoration work on the first film? Anyway this is all conjecture now.
