Now I know that Brandon Routh should be playing Green Lantern instead of Superman.

Wow. He's like Hal Jordan incarnate! Awesomeness.

Yeah, its too bad he's Superman. Routh just doesn't look the part, though I can't really think of anyone who does.

Jim Caviezel.

Personally I think Brandon Routh looks like a Kyle Rayner type of Green Lantern, or possibly Nightwing. I know there's actually a manipulation out there of Routh as Batman but I can't find it. I'm still waiting to see if anyone will do a manip of him as Captain Marvel. http://www.marvelfamily.com/images/WhosWho/CaptainMarvel/Panels/cap_supes.jpg

More DVD Sets Coming

The HD-DVD format supports 15 gigabytes of space and Blu-Ray supports 25 gigabytes, according to blue-raydisc.com. The current DVD format can hold only 4.7 gigabytes.

But its such a lie, LOTR did it with two disks. They are just holding out

It's enough to make me wish Star Wars had never been.

As far as over pricing the tickets and food goes, it didn't use to be a problem for me - I worked in a movie theater, originally Hoyts Cinema which was later bought by Regal Cinema, for 2 and a half years, which is longer than anyone should work in a movie theater. I stuck around mostly because of this one golden perk: you could see free movies on your day(s) off. Plus, and this was more a liberty than a perk, you could sneak into movies and check out the previews so you would know in advance what to avoid witout relying on the Internet. I got in a lot of trouble for making fun of the Troy, Catwoman and King Arthur trailers, among others, and it was worth it .

If George had only changed Special effects for the SE and DVD, would people have complained as much?

I think it said a lot about Spielberg's character when, at the last possible minute, he released the 1982 version of E.T. along with the 2002 edition. Granted, the E.T. SE was much more maligned than the SW SE (and for good reasons). But the plan all along was to release the 2002 edition affordably, and release the 1982 edition in a much more expensive set. As the packaging was being prepped, the negative press gave Spielberg and Universal the balls to say "Okay, everybody gets both versions."

Meanwhile, Lucas still gives us the middle finger by this obnoxious party line of "The O-OT doesn't exist." Bollocks! Star Wars was a trendsetter and should have been so for DVD as well, giving us all a choice of which changes to watch on a single disc. Any, all or none. Instead we got flipped off by one of the worst transfers in memory AND a press that sucked up to Lucas rather than calling him on the carpet for all the technical misdeeds of the official DVD.

How could the special edition of ET be more maligned than the special edition of Star Wars?

Superman Movie
Time
Now that you mention Kevin Smith's attempt to do Superman, I've finally accepted the possibiliy that it could have been worse. Tim Burton was slated to direct Smith's script, but Burton hated the script, as did producer Jon Peters. Burton, who brags about how he never reads comic books, wanted to make things fast and loose and Jon Peters wanted something that would just give them room to make a lot of toys, and they didn't like the faithfulness of Smith's script. Needless to say having a guy who refuses to read comics in the boat with a guy who does like comics just isn't a good match. Burton and Peters wanted to get rid of the classic Superman suit and they didn't want him to fly - they wanted him to wear the all black suit with the silver 'S' emblem and at one point actually had Superman travelling around in a "Super Mobile" and teleporting himself as opposed to flying. I also hear that Burton wanted to get rid of Nicholas Cage, another comic book lover, and replace him with Ralph Fiennes (Feinnes? never can get that name spelled right) and/or Sean Penn.

I don't like a lot of what I've heard about Bryan Singer's approach to this movie, but after hearing what Burton and Peters wanted to do, Singer's stuff doesn't sound quite as bad. Still terrible, but not as bad.

It wouldn't be nearly as bad if Lucas would simply have put the original versions out alongside the special editions, thus still giving us the choice. Not every director out there feels a need to destroy the original theatrical version in favor his/her director's cut (the only exceptions I can think of being Ridley Scott's Blade Runner cut and Robert Wise's Star Trek 1 cut). If he hadn't been such a stubborn jack ass about the original versions I wouldn't have a problem.

Oh yeah, I know all abou that last one having worked in a theater as an usher. Customers really suck these days. Not to mention that prices are so goddamn high these days. Most people say they wouldn't mind going to the movies more often it wasn't so damn expensive.
