SUPERMAN RETURNS REVIEW

The plot's biggest problem is the script. The script's biggest problem is the plot. The actor's biggest problems were having to follow the script.

Exactly.

I'd rather wait another 20 years for a real Superman film that really restarts & relaunches the franchise - and features the real suit - than get another half-assed sequel from Singer and his henchmen.

I heard that too. All I can say is "Why?" Isn't this a little a late in the game? Shouldn't they have tried this "Sarah Connor Chronicles" thing back when the Terminator films were more relevant, more popular?

As to why "most" of the odd numbered Star Trek films "Suck", I can't give you an answer Warbler. I still think "Motion Picture" had some great special effects work though, even if it wasn't the best of the Treks.

Just like the guy who played the Scarecrow in BB was way to young to believably play the head shrink at Arkham. They need to cast someone in their 40s as Dent.

I hadn't thought about Murphy's youthfulness. I was distracted more by the fact that whenever Murphy was on screen all I could think of was 28 Days Later.

Yeah, I have to say, I loved The Last Samurai. It's so confusing watching it in Japan, though - you can never get the perfect combination of Japanese with English subtitles and English with Japanese subtitles (that is to say, it's impossible to satisfy both audiences at once...).

For those familiar with japanese culture, the mere fact that we see Tom Cruise as an american fighting on the side of the shogunates during the Meiji Restorarion is absolutely bizarre.

To say the least.

I am familiar with Japanese culture, and I saw it with my Japanese family at least twice and we all loved it. I was opposed to the idea when I saw the trailer, but I think it really highlights something about Japan even today.

Did you see the "Memoirs of Geisha" or "Memories of the Geisha' or whatever it was called?

I hate the idea of them making a sequel to Superman Returns.
I hate the fact that there might not be a sequel: I want them to have another go and at getting it right, and I don't want to wait another 20 years for a superman movie.

Amen Brother.

I hate the fact that they couldn't do a seperate Superman movie, but had to do a 'semi-sequel' to Superman 2, and include some lame plot points such as Superman having a son. But I agree that it is even worse that it might be years until someone tries again with Superman. It seems like everyone has Superman written off as a superhero type that nobody likes anymore, so we need more embittered anti-heros.

I'm starting to hate embittered anti-heroes. I hate that they've been playing Aquaman as an embittered anti-hero (they basically changed him from being the anti-Namor to being a Namor clone). A little bit of embittered anti-hero goes a long way.

I've read that after "Forever" Schumacher tried to pitch WB on an adaptation of "Year One" that he wanted to make in the more serious vein. Lord knows how that would have turned out.

Actually, this was after B&R. I remember it well. It was about as deluded as Halle Berry's comments about expecting to do a Catwoman sequel weeks after the first one had already tanked.

My bad.

Yeah, actually. I saw "A Time To Kill" in psychology class. THought it was pretty good.

He just wasn't meant to direct Batman, plain and simple.

Wasn't Warner Brothers also partly to blame for the fiasco though? With the insistence of a lighter Batman?

Kevin Conroy was a great Batman. He was also a pretty kickass Bruce Wayne as well. I really can't say enough about that, except that the first few seasons of the Animated Series was just perfect... until FOX had to stick its nosy business into it.

WB were the ones who shifted gears over to The New Batman Adventures

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of New Batman. But then again, I wasn't a fan of Batman Beyond either (runs for cover).
