I’d burn all prints of the OOT if it brought down Disney, Hollywood entire, and the false god Mammon.

Are you sure you’re on our side?

My commitment to limited copyright and the public domain transcends any commitment to any Star Wars film.

So essentially your George Lucas.

Oh, yeah, certainly. 'Cause as we all know, Lucas was an outspoken anti-capitalist who didn’t own a multi-million-dollar production company, who didn’t make millions of dollars from IPs he hogged the copyright to, who then didn’t turn around and willingly sell both his company and his IPs to the Malignant Mouse.

Run along home and go play with your Star Wars action figures, little boy. Your attempts at repartee are feeble.

Well, you certainly hate the OUT like he does. Why are you here on a pro OUT site anyway if you hate it so much? Oh and how about you run along home to your special editions while us big boys enjoy the unaltered versions.

I would do anything in my power short of violence to see gross, rampant, malignant capitalism dismantled.

So you ARE basically George Lucas - hunting down every single copy of the Star Wars Holiday Day Special and smash it with a hammer 😉

When was the Special Edition first shown on TV?

And when it was shown in Germany on TV?
Because i wanted to know if i watched the theatrical versions, or the Special Edition’s from 1997 as a 4 or 5 year old kid.

If i remember exactly it was 1999 or at the latest 2000 when the Special Editions were shown for the first time on German TV. After the Special Editions had their 97’ release at the cinema and were available on VHS afterwards, german TV stations still broadcasted the Theatrical Cuts for quite some time.

EDIT: The TV Station ProSieben broadcasted the OT for the last 20 years here in Germany. But according to this site…

https://www.fernsehserien.de/star-wars/sendetermine/prosieben/-2

… there is an odd gap between 1998 and 2000. In 98 the OT (maybe in its SE version?) was shown only once. In 1999 completely absent. Since 2000 there is a continuous OT broadcast by ProSieben. I remember seeing the Theatrical Cuts saturday afternoon on Kabel 1 (another German TV Station) in 1999.

Most Baffling Complaint of a Star Wars Movie

For me the most baffling complaint about Star Wars has been one brought up by Jeremy Jahns about Mace Windu’s lightsaber. He was bothered about Mace’s lightsaber being purple, and that lightsaber blades should only be blue or green for the good guys and red for the bad guys. I see nothing wrong with lightsaber blades being whatever colour people want them to be. Hell, I myself would like to see an orange-bladed lightsaber introduced in the Disney canon.

I was only annoyed by it because every other Jedi still just had green and blue in AOTC and ROTS. At least throw a few yellow ones in there or something.

In great quantaties it was also visually pretty boring just to see green and blue light sabers.

I like that the Dark Jedi from DARK FORCES II: JEDI KNIGHT had some color variety.

People claim that Jar Jar Binks is the worst character of the Phantom Menace (and the whole PT in general). But the worst character is Anakin Skywalker. He is the person you should rude for and in later movies you are supposed to be emotionally engaged when he gets seduced to the Dark Side. But no. In TPM he is a nine year old boy, who tells you he has been a pilot … ALL HIS LIFE … 9 YEARS OLD. George, what were you thinking?

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

The Last Jedi does not ruin anything set up by The Force Awakens. Everything in TLJ fits with exactly what Han says happened: “One boy, an apprentice, turned against him and destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible. He just…walked away from everything. There were a lot of rumors, stories. People who knew him best think he went looking for the first Jedi temple.”

Luke was not reverted back to a previous version of himself. Just because you have success in your youth is no guarantee of success later in life. On the contrary, experiencing great success earlier in youth can make INEVITABLE failures that much harder to cope with.

Losing a child can rip a family apart. It is compounded exponentially if one of the family members blames themselves for the loss. You can hear the anguish when Luke laments how Leia trusted him with her son.

Yoda does say Luke is looking away at the horizon again, but it’s different this time. When he was younger, he was obsessed with the future and adventure at the expense of the present. He needed to learn focus. Now in his old age he is dwelling on the past at the expense of the present, and missing the opportunity that Rey presents.

Luke is not even honest with himself about exactly what happened. He tries to unburden himself by blaming the Jedi way. Only when he accepts his own mistake and finally forgives himself is he able to learn from the experience. This is a hard lesson to learn. Sometimes it is harder to forgive ourselves than the forgive others because we hold ourselves to an unattainable perfect standard.

Luke then puts on an awesome display of Force mastery in one of the most beautiful and poignant moments of the entire saga.

The Last Jedi is an absolutely wonderful movie.

So Star Wars is now a learning-lessons-about-life-meta-documentary which uses a fictional space fantasy fairy tale as a backdrop some old bearded guy invented in the 70s?

Meh.

Star Wars should be about escapism, not realism.

your thoughts: Did Disney kill star wars because it sounds like they did with the last jedi solo and resistance.
Time

I had high hopes for THE LAST JEDI. In the end it literally killed my enjoyment for STAR WARS.

5 months later SOLO came along. The movie i never wanted to see because of common prejudice (don’t wanna see origin story bla bla / mystery is better bla bla).

Turns out: SOLO resurrected my enjoyment for STAR WARS immediately.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time
  1. Star Wars

  2. The Empire strikes back

  3. Solo - A Star Wars Story
All i can say is: I love this movie! Such a fun space adventure with likeable characters and a great engaging soundtrack. Watching it, i’m feeling like a 10-year old boy again discovering the magic & fun of Star Wars for the first time.

  4. The Return of the Jedi

  5. The Force Awakens
I don’t mind the copied A NEW HOPE story structure. Too me it is an entertaining movie that pays tribute to the original trilogy and A NEW HOPE in general.

I can’t rank the other movies since i don’t care about them any more. But for the sake of completeness:

  1. Attack of the Clones
Strange to say this is my favorite Prequel movie. There is a swelling atmosphere of doom in the story i always liked. And John Williams soundtrack supports that baleful atmosphere very well.

  2. Revenge of the Sith

  3. The Phantom Menace

  4. Rogue One
Bland and uninteresting. Also irritating fan service and a way too epic final battle.

(The truth is: Kyle Katarn stole the death star plans.) 😉

  5. The Last Jedi
This movie is terrible. Last december i left the cinema very dissapointed. I really tried to like TLJ when it arrived on Blu-ray. Some of my comments in the TLJ thread reflect my attempts. But no. The phase of denial is over.

Lucasfilm gives Cease and Desist to stop production of fan remaster of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Wasn’t there a fan remake of Dark Forces some years back? Feels more like Disney is behind this than Lucasfilm.

I was looking forward to a Dark Forces mod called Dark XL. In combination with the original game files you could play Dark Forces in higher resolution with better textures & lighting as well as keyboard + mouse support. Unfortunately the developer abandoned the project and left Dark XL stuck in a playable Alpha Build Version with lots of bugs though.
