What about 'Shadows of the Empire'? Is that book still canon?
What about 'Shadows of the Empire'? Is that book still canon?
So, if this is true, every post '95 release of the OT could be called the
STAR WARS TRILOGY - Revenge of the Divorce EDITION ?
About those Dewbacks ... I'm still wondering: why would the Empire use such slow & clunky animals to perform a tactical planetwide SEARCH & RETRIEVE operation? Furthermore Stormtroopers must get serious spine problems after hours and hours riding a Dewback.
The Special Edition made me think about these questions since that version illustrated the Dewbacks movement.
On the other hand ... High Speed vehicles on a Forest Planet? Hmmmm ... ;-)

Wake up and smell the proverbial; none of this is new or revolutionary - even Tolkien went back and revised The Hobbit to fit in with The Lord Of The Rings.
Tolkien tried to revise the Hobbit to fit in with LOTR. But he stopped because he was worried that the Hobbit would loose it's original intention: being a fairy tale for children. And so he scrapped his plans of a Revised Hobbit.
At least it's not

STAR WARS EPISODE VII - WAKE UP ... IT'S FORCE TIME
Favourite Change: Victory Celebration at the end of ROTJ (the '97 Version without Naboo and Hayden).
Least Favourite Change: Vaders NOOOOOOOOO in ROTJ

The fact that Lucas decided at the last minute to kill off Obi-Wan Kenobi when he was making Star Wars gives you a window into the way he writes.
Wasn't that actually Marcia's idea to kill off Ben?
Yes, that was her idea to kill Obi-Wan in order to raise the stakes.
She influenced Lucas in many positive ways. Here's a quote from Hamill:
You can see a huge difference in the films that he [Lucas] does now and the films that he did when he was married. I know for a fact that Marcia Lucas was responsible for convincing him to keep that little 'kiss for luck' before Carrie [Fisher] and I swing across the chasm in the first film: 'Oh, I don't like it, people laugh in the previews,' and she said, 'George, they're laughing because it's so sweet and unexpected'-- and her influence was such that if she wanted to keep it, it was in. When the little mouse robot comes up when Harrison and I are delivering Chewbacca to the prison and he roars at it and it screams, sort of, and runs away, George wanted to cut that and Marcia insisted that he keep it.
Yes, i actually like these short 'dialogue' snippets.
What i like about the Prequels (besides John Williams Score):
TPM: The short dialogue between Darth Sidious and Darth Maul on Coruscant.
AOTC: The dialogue between Dooku and Obi-Wan (when Obi-Wan is captive).
ROTS: The dialogue between Palpatine and Anakin in the Opera.
That's it.

There was a conveyor belt scene in AOTC? Seriously? Wow did that movie make no lasting impression.
Let me help me you: the stuff that happened inside the Droid Factory ... Anakin ... and Padme ... on the conveyor belt.
I'm sorry. I used the nomenclature from the official soundtrack ('On the Conveyor Belt').
Too many ... bad memories ... ... R2 ... ... flying.
Conveyor Belt Scene (Attack of the Clones) = Dwarf/Dragon Chase Scene inside Erebor (Desolation of Smaug)
Both scences were conceived after principal photography.
Both scences were shot in an almost complete blue screen enviroment.
Both scences were invented to 'beef up' the tension.
Both scences are absolutely boring and visually excessive.

You could say that George was doing the same thing with the PT, but I wanna say he is worse than Jackson because the LOTR is not being reedited to fit in with the Hobbit trilogy.
You should listen to the audio commentary of the AUJ EE. At one point Peter Jackson and Philipa Boyens are discussing the possibility of a Six Movie Middle-Earth Box Set AND ... ... that some shots of the opening scene from 'Fellowship' have to be replaced with Hobbit scenes (think Bilbo = remove Ian Holm, insert Martin Freeman) and that Thranduil could be digitally inserted into the battle scenes along with Elrond and Gil Galad.
History repeats itself. A director should never touch the same material a second time.
It's very complicated to understand what's going on in the Prequels, because many things don't make any sense. If you managed to align one puzzle piece, another one will jump right out of the frame.
If you want to 'enjoy' some Prequel stuff, just read the Episode III Novel. That book is actually good.

Somehow I have this distinct memory of one of the Jabba subtitles being too wide for this zoomed-in version, so they had to pan across the frame during the subtitles to make them all readable. Or was that on one of the VHS-releases?
On Sat1 the Jabba subtitles were equal cut of like the ones from Greedo:
Nope, just like I remembered:
Just noticed: take a look at Bib Fortuna ... looks like he's surprised about the appearing subtitle!

Hat sich aber jetzt erledigt, die Aufnahmen von Haarspalter erfüllen ihren Zweck :-)
Sehr schön, das freut mich :-)
Last Crusade --- 10 / 10
Raiders of the Lost Ark --- 9 / 10
Temple of Doom --- 7 / 10
Crystal Skull --- 5 / 10
Are these scenes supposed to be so dark?
@Laserschwert
@sykwalker89
Kannst du davon auch was gebrauchen (z.B. Fox & Lauftext Intro + Abspann)?
@Laserschwert
@skywalker89
@Laserschwert
I digitized my old 1990 ROTJ Sat.1 VHS recording a few months ago. I made this well, let's say - amateurish - with one of these cheap 'SCART/Chinch-to-USB-whatever-adapters'. But the result should be adequate to analyse the theatrical timing and placement of the german Jabba subtitles.
@skywalker89
Auf Deutsch unterhalten? Aber gerne doch ;-)
ANH: Vader kills Obi-Wan and screams: 'I HATE YOU!!!!!!'
ANH: Yavin replaced by Naboo. Rebel base is now located on one of its moons.
ANH: New CGI Shot: The center of the Rebel Base marks the grave of Padme. The writings on the tombstone: 'She just wanted to fix up the baby's room. But in his anger he killed her.'
ESB: Wampa yells 'What the?!?' when Luke cuts off his arm.
ESB: Vader watches Luke jumping down the Bespin shaft and says: 'I hate it when he does that.'
ROTJ: The Emperor screams his last words as he falls down the shaft: 'WE WILL DISCUSS THIS MATTER LAAAAAAAAAATER !!!!!!!!'
A German website also reported about Harmy's Despecialized Edition.

Major Eaton: Now what does the OT look like?
Indy: Uh... there are some scenes of it right here. (shows RWM demo reel) That's it.
Major Eaton: Good God!
Indy: Yes, that's just what moviegoers all around the world thought in 1977.
Major Eaton: I'm beginning to understand Disney's interest in this.
