I fail to see why the ending of a Roland Emmerich movie would be a Steven Spielberg contribution to ROTJ SE. The only Spielberg contribution I know to the SW saga is one or two ideas during the Yoda v Sidious fight. What are the others ?
As far as i know Spielberg was one the friends (besides Coppola, Huyck, Katz and others) Lucas consulted for at least rough cut feedback for the original Star Wars movie. According to the ROTS Bonus DVD, Spielberg was the one who suggested to George that during the Anakin VS Obi-Wan fight one of the antennas should break off and land on the lava river. Lucas also asked Spielberg for his feedback on the first rough cut of ROTS. Michael Kaminski hinted in his book ‘The Secret History of Star Wars’ that Lucas got the idea for the infamous AOTC conveyer belt scene from Spielberg, because Steven experimented at Lucasfilm with Pre-Viz shots for his movie ‘Minority Report’ (remember the conveyer belt scene in the Lexus factory) during the Post-Production phase of AOTC.
Recently i listened to the RLM Audio Commentary for ROTJ. In the last minutes Jay Bauman mentioned that the new ending felt like ‘Independence Day’ where everyone on earth celebrates the destruction of the alien ships at the same time, whereupon in ‘Jedi’ everyone in the galaxy celebrates the downfall of the Empire at the same time.
That similartity between both movies is kind of interesting and makes me wonder if Lucas actually saw ID4 in the summer of '96 and decided to create a similar happy ending for the upcoming ROTJ Special Edition in March of '97.
There is a clue that a ‘certain’ friend suggested to Lucas that he should see ‘Independence Day’ in the theatre. Steven Spielberg mentioned in the Making Of Featurette ‘The Return of a Legend’ for Indiana Jones KOTCS that he called up George after he saw ID4. He told George that it’s impossible to further develop the ‘Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars’ script, because ID4 deals with the same topic.
So, is the new ending of ROTJ another indirect/passive contribution to the Star Wars Saga from Steven Spielberg or another example Lucas borrowing ideas from other movies? Maybe both…
I have checked some scenes. This is the strangest case ever. This is what’s in the version:
- “Krieg der Sterne” Crawl
- Title “Neue Hoffnung” without “Eine” (97)
- Purple cap of 3PO’s and R2D2’s ship in the dessert
- No rocks in front of R2D2
- Ben Kenobi’s scream I believe from '97 (it’s definitely not '04 or '11)
- Jabba from 2004/2011
I really don’t know what version they pieced together, any ideas?

Now, that’s very interesting. A user at starwars-union.de hinted that this could be the result of a copyright conflict between Disney and Fox. Someone should get a copy of that HDTV broadcast asap.

How can i successfully sync the desired audio track to the PAL GOUT of Star Wars?
Why not just watch Laserschwert’s version? Who wants to watch the GOUT video?
Of course i watch & enjoy Laserschwert’s versions and i absolutely appreciate his and Harmy’s work.
Before i discovered OT.com and the Despecialized Editions i tended to watch the GOUT quite often. Today the low image quality reminds of the VHS era when i saw the OT as a child. So i want to replace the audio track - keeping a non-HD version - just for nostalgia reasons i guess.
Actually, the free, open source, multi-platform project Audacity can change the speed without changing the pitch … called tempo:
Actually i used AudaCity at my first attempts but Video & Audio got out of sync everytime during the Death Star Battle.
Just use eac3to’s “speedup” feature, which compresses the audio the right amount, but this also increases the pitch of the audio, so the pitch will be wrong, but no more wrong than the original PAL GOUT. Compressing the audio without changing the pitch would likely require more serious audio editing software. Don’t worry about the extra frames, you’re not going to notice and it’s quite a lot more work to fix those.

So… The myth that Lucas conceived the ‘saga’ as one unified whole is one that really boils my blood, because it leads to these very close-minded view. I’ve encountered a certain breed of fan that believes TFA is offensive by its mere existence because it violates the original six-part structure that Lucas intended.
I haven’t heard this but I’ve heard something along the lines of “TFA is offensive because the galaxy didn’t live happily ever after”

Ths smashing success of ‘Raiders’ has been said to have changed much the direction of the future Star Wars films. “This idea that the roller-coaster ride was all the audience was interested in,” said Kurtz, “and the story doesn’t have to be very adult or interesting, seemed to come up because of what happened with ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ and the Indiana Jones films - and the fact that that seemed to make a lot of money.”
From my reading, are you trying to add the German audio from Laserschwerts (Krieg der Sterne Despecialized Edition 2.5) to the video of official GOUT DVD?
That’s correct. I want to replace the official track with Laserschwerts track. But i don’t know how to sync the replacement track properly.
There is a little personal project i tried to figure for quite some time now. Since the german audio track of the Star Wars GOUT DVD is missing a certain number of elements (dialogue, music, etc.), i wanted to replace the official audio track with the main audio track from Laserschwerts [Krieg der Sterne Despecialized Edition 2.5]. I managed to mux/demux (?) the official PAL GOUT DVD and converted Laserschwerts audio track from NTSC to PAL speed but i was unaware of this whole missing frames & audio delay stuff. How can i successfully sync the desired audio track to the PAL GOUT of Star Wars?

It’s so silly. Palpatine ought to have looked in Sith like he did in Clones, and vice versa. That way it would be more believable that he looks the way he does in Jedi.
Indeed. Paply looks older in AOTS than he does in ROTS. I guess the “lightning deformation” is something Lucas improvised when he wrote/shot ROTS, because he obvioulsy had the primary idea that Palpy was just very old in ROTJ.
Maybe that “Benjamin-Buttoning” from AOTC to ROTS is another Sith Power 😉
