Hey Hal, hope you’ve been well. Any updates on the “Max Cuts” for Episode I and III? Hoping to do a rewatch with some family soon and would love to include those versions. No rush at all though, just wondering!
it’s not spamming to want to access the projects here, and I don’t think that folks should need to meet a threshold of participation in order to do so
It is spamming when the creators of edits clearly say to PM or email them or provide ways to access their work in their initial post, but new users don’t care to read the rules of the site they are signing up for and are just constantly inflating threads with link requests.
EDIT: Moreso, the reason WHY this was established in the first place was because of existing users of the site getting annoyed with new users not bothering to even look into how to get an edit and then acting entitled when people a direct link wouldn’t get posted in a thread, or they would tell someone off for needing to wait to PM the creator.
Does this also affect the canon cut?
I’ll see what else I can find on the web. It’s just a sad state of things when it is more believable for a Star Wars film to be cancelled versus actually releasing.
As expected… the movie is now being reported as “shelved”
😂😂😂
https://thedirect.com/article/lucasfilm-star-wars-movie-upcoming-shelves
The latest Star Wars story to hit the pause button is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars film, which will include the much-anticipated return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey. The movie was first announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2023 and has since stopped and started through the development process.
The latest update on the Rey movie comes from entertainment insider Daniel Richtman, who reported on his Patreon that the Rey movie is “on hold once again.” Richtman reiterated that “the project is not canceled” but is “temporarily on hold.”
I still think Bor Gullet feels out of place. Sometimes “show don’t tell” isn’t always the right approach.
Hal’s edit handles the Bodhi stuff quite well, with us meeting Bodhi for the first time in the prison cell and him being less out of it.
However, if you’d want to reinstate some stuff to include more Saw:
By cutting this way, Bor Gullet is removed, and the assumption is instead that Saw was the one that did something to him to jack his head up so badly. I think that works to make Saw seem even crazier if that is your goal.
Definitely agree, @Vladius.
I believe it was an addition during the reshoots. I feel that the higher-ups said “Wait… we don’t have a creepy alien/monster, add one in!”
So unfortunately, the AI cleanup did not work as well as I would have hoped. I think this is still the best reconstruction around for the time. The untouched files are likely buried someplace in John Williams’ basement or in Joesph Williams’ garage never to be heard again 😕
Okay I was feeling more inspired and updated the cover art again. I think I should have this ready tomorrow.
I should also point out that, due to the use of AI, this might count as a Fan Edit, not a Preservation
Not that it is the same caliber, but would you consider AI being used on The Beatles’ “Now & Then” to isolate and clean the noise on Lennon’s vocals a preservation or an edit? It’s a bit of a gray area. It is not creating, only cleaning and adjusting levels and removing static and background noise.
May you reach that limit sooner and sooner every day
Okay, you’ve inspired me. The main post has been updated with a non-AI cover I put together 😄
Might want to find an AI that can properly recreate a red ball jett organ’s keys, instead of that ridiculous inverted, not-quite-right piano keyboard it gave you.
Good catch! I’ll give it a shot. I’m at my limit for image creation for the day but I saved a bunch of pics of Rebo’s setup that I can feed in for the AI to reference.
Cool. You restore the full video?
Nope, just the audio.
A little teaser for something I am working on:
This preservation aims to restore the full version of the music created for Jabba’s Palace.
There are some existing versions on YouTube that blend audio pulled from ROTJ and an ILM documentary. I am using several of these as a source.
The full clips are then being processed through AI to clean up the “lost” segments with the goal being to improve the lower quality to match the surrounding better quality audio.
I also intend to release an extended version once completed that extends out the music to 5-ish minutes instead of just 2.
More to come soon!
I’m actually really digging Patrick Gibson in the role. He will be the younger Bond in the new First Light: 007 game that is releasing next year. He was great as young Dexter in Dexter: Original Sin, and so far, I’ve loved what I’ve seen and heard about this upcoming game.
Ideally, since they will be rebooting the film-side of things, they’ll need to have a younger actor that can carry the franchise for the next 15-20 years. I’d love to see them just cast Patrick, he’s 30 years old now, and could easily play him for the next 20 years.
The game, or let’s be real… games if this sells well, can focus on 007’s origins, while the movies can have him be slightly aged up and get back to a more traditional film structure.
Hal did confirm he will be releasing wider-canon cuts for Revenge and Phantom. I believe Revenge is up next and then Phantom as @TMWNN is working on an improved color correction and some effects fixes that Hal intends to use in the next version of his edit.
The fact that Disney had the whole OG cast involved and did not write one scene where they are all together will forever torment me until the day where I am one with the force.
Looking back, it appears that @Nev said the first 2 paragraphs are locked in for him, so I would recommend this as the final crawl for the next version.
The only issues I see with the current paragraph 3 is that we need to better establish why the Resistance exists. Their goal in the movie isn’t really to find Luke, but they are the Rebels 2.0 because JJ needed Empire vs Rebels again. I took paragraph 3 from the existing edit and the ideas in the thread to make an updated version.
Eagerly awaiting an update on this project as well. I’m curious to see how we can use some of the AI line suggestions that were made to finalize this edit!
EPISODE VII
THE FORCE AWAKENS
It is a time of despair.
Luke Skywalker, sworn
to rebuild the legendary
Jedi Order, has vanished.
With the Jedi now facing
extinction, agents of the
evil FIRST ORDER have
risen from the shadows
of an Imperial fortress
to claim supremacy over
countless worlds beyond
the fragile New Republic.
A covert RESISTANCE,
secretly armed by the
Senate to counter this
emerging threat, has found
a clue to the last Jedi’s
whereabouts, determined to
restore the light of hope
to the darkening stars…
FYI:
Just wanted to let anyone know that I’m planning to watch season 2 of Andor one episode per week despite the release schedule, so I won’t be in this thread until July 9th.
There is another version of this likely coming, just need to give it some time.
I think it’d be silly for me to dedicate any time to this until after we see Andor Season 2, but there may be enough to do at that point.
Hal coming back to this thread:
Would you be able to do textless versions for the movies?
I’d need VII-IX, Rogue One and Solo in a 2:3 format.
I’d love to use these on my Plex server and have had zero luck finding good textless art for the above in the 2004 style. I’d even argue your versions look better than the ones you found.
Maybe a remake for those ones?
Hello, You can contact u/Megakyle from reddit, the guy who made sequel trilogy and spin offs covers.
Will do! Thanks!
Is it really a bump in this thread without a new crawl rewrite? 😄
The Last Jedi establishes that Luke did have his own Jedi Academy. I think it is stronger for Luke’s character if it is clearly established that he did bring back the Jedi Order, but it was destroyed. If this was the case, I feel his story arc in The Last Jedi would have been responded to better: Luke did bring the Jedi Order back, it all went to shit, so he went into exile. Instead of it seeming like he only had a few students.
However, I could see people complaining how Order 66 part 2 was in a crawl instead of the movie itself.
“I guess it is time, for the Jedi Order to end.”
EPISODE VII
THE FORCE AWAKENS
It is a time of despair.
The legendary Jedi Order
has been slaughtered.
Luke Skywalker is missing.
Emboldened by the Jedi’s
absence, agents of the
evil FIRST ORDER have
risen from the shadows
of an Imperial fortress
to claim supremacy over
countless worlds beyond
the fragile New Republic.
Wary to condone any action
that could lead to war,
the Senate has secretly
commissioned the pilots
of a brave RESISTANCE
to find the last Jedi and
restore the light of hope
to the darkening stars…

Gotcha!
Grabbing it now. Didn’t realize only the larger encode was affected. I thought you had to rerender all of them which is why I was making some last minute suggestions.
All good though! Happy to have this edit. Thanks again for all the work that you do!
