Yeah I don’t think it was too subtle for our puny little brains to handle or anything like that, it was just in bad taste.

Never meant to imply anyone’s brains here are “puny” - in fact, they’re the opposite. (Believe me, I don’t spend time on forums where the discussion lacks intelligence.) I just think my original intent was obscured by a poor use of satire, and if someone else had done it, I likely wouldn’t have taken it positively, either.

To All Here:

I formally apologize for my ill-conceived joke - and thank-you to the moderators for unbanning me. The idea was to illustrate how some Interwebber could take even SilverWook’s own words and, due to the stupidity of taking those words out of context, use them to launch such a rumor. I figured you guys would pick up on my facetiousness, but it was an overly subtle miscommunication that obviously backfired. Again, I apologize.

Thank you.

. . . . I fully expect RJ to be accused of indirectly causing Carrie Fisher’s death if this keeps up. 😕

Holy crap, do you suppose it’s possible that he did???

If that’s a joke, I’m not laughing.

Idea: 'The Sequel Trilogy - complete redux' (an idea and discussion thread)

I do think they missed an opportunity at showcasing a new dynamic. . . . I would have much preferred the new dynamic of the New Republic battling a small faction known as the First Order that still believes in the ideals of the Empire. . . . Technically, in canon, it’s been thirty some odd years but TFA is literally the first film after ROTJ, in the main saga, and so the fact that we go from “we did it!” to “welp, it was nice while it lasted” just like that is disappointing.

The lack of political context irked me at first. Eventually, I realized the relationship between the Republic and the Resistance is at least roughly analogous to the relationship between the French Resistance and Free France in World War II.

You guys are circling the central point of the framing that I wish had been done with these sequels: an analogy with the rise of Hitler and the Nazis between WW1 and WW2.

  • The Allies punish Germany too harshly / the New Republic bullies the Imperial remnant
  • German resentment soars, and a young, bitter corporal named Adolf blames Jews and communists / Imperial resentment soars, and a young “Hitler” blames uncontrolled, unaccountable Force-users for supposed incompetence and the failure of their “sorcerer’s ways” to carry the Empire to victory
  • Hitler rises to power by tapping German resentment and desperation; outlines a plan for a fascist, antisemitic state and brand new war machine / The Imperial “Hitler” outlines a plan to destroy Force-users, rebuild the Imperial war machine, and get vengeance on the New Republic
  • The Allies didn’t take Hitler seriously until it was too late to prevent a new war / The New Republic doesn’t initially take the Imperial resurgence seriously

I mean, good grief and bantha poodu, the parallels that could be drawn throughout a sequel trilogy!!!

I’m also considering a new TFA-TLJ amalgamated crawl that actually sketches these parallels, with the opening scene on Jakku being all about an Imperial hunt for Force-users.

. . . I don’t view Lucas in a such a harsh light anymore as I come to understand him

I’m on the same page. I more feel sorry for the guy, actually. I mean, he did make some terrible moves with the PT, but it occurs to me that the bones of a good story are there, if only the scripts had been tweaked a bit, a couple different casting choices, and most importantly a different director(s).

You have to ask yourself - why would Mark actually be happy about killing of the past, his past and a character he has been the active custodian of for 40 years and had to think of it as “Jake Skywalker” in order to play the part?

Um, this just popped into my head: what if a radical TLJ reedit had “Luke” actually be Luke’s previously unknown twin brother? Such a thing could easily explain his hiding-out and reluctance to train anyone. I know at first blush it sounds crazy, but . . . .

If you have a music only track doesn’t that mean you can do an inversion method to eliminate all music in the channels? I thought I heard something about that a while back.

I’ve been lately seeing a number of Youtube vids in which people have stripped various film scenes of their music. I haven’t a clue how they did it.

100k confirmed butthurt fanboys.

Hmm, I could be wrong, but are you (and some others) using the term fanboy correctly? Isn’t a fanboy someone who consumes whatever the producer of [insert product name here] produces, just because it bears that franchise name, regardless of quality? If that’s the case, then wouldn’t an actual fanboy be infatuated with every single SW film that’s been made . . . ?

I think the youtube critics are the same people who click on the “hot singles in your area” ads…

Or they’re just ordinary Star Wars fans who were very disappointed with TLJ (their numbers are legion), and love discussing/debating it, as well as the future of the franchise.

😒

Myself, I can’t figure out for the life of me why the writers and directors aren’t mining the wealth of ideas in the now-defunct EU. Even if it’s no longer canon, many of the concepts were fantastic and deserve to be used in film.

The puppet is pretty great otherwise, but the mouth is so important for his appearance. It looks like he lost his teeth.

Hence my argument that a muppet should be used for Yoda, but with CGI mouth movements. In fact, I see no reason the same approach couldn’t be taken with a host of characters that are either animatronics or actors with prosthetics. The Nemoidians are examples of the latter, and while they were lame characters anyway, because of the writing, at the very least they would have looked better if their mouths had been animated.
