Star Wars I - VIII Matching DVD covers?
Time

Part of the issue is that many “complete” sets were made a while ago by members that may no longer be active, so they’re not getting updated as new movies come out.

Also, bear in mind that BR covers have different dimensions than DVD covers, so just swapping out the logo means your cover will be too short and maybe also too narrow(?) for a DVD case.

You are right, that’s why I went off of actual DVD cover dimensions, took the blu ray cover, and centered it on the template, then matched the excess area to the color of the cover, which thankfully was black. The more I think about it though, the more I’m thinking about it, the more I may just focus on I-VI matching covers, and let the Disney era stuff use the original covers. I have a folder of different covers, and I ran across something called “The Graphite Collection” and I kinda like the look of that. It also has matching covers for the Bonus Features disc and the 2D Clone Wars DVDs.

It may be worth having a look through the blu ray covers to see if anything can be easily adapted, or asking one of the talented people on here to make a new set - in one of the request threads?

Something like this? (from the blu ray cover thread)

or

I’m not a fan of these - though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there are now full matching sets available… (in the DVD covers thread)

Good luck with it mate - hope you find something that catches your eye.

Could you point me in the direction of the proper request thread, please?

I didn’t see any DVD sets

Probably because most of us have BDs. Honestly not trying to be rude, Blu Ray just eclipsed DVD a long time ago so most people don’t bother anymore with custom DVD art.

No, I get what you’re saying. Star Wars is the only property that I still care about DVDs (With the exception of the random film/doc that I care about that somehow only released on DVD), and there are family members who love Star Wars but only have DVD, so it still makes sense to have it. Not to mention it’s just nice to be able to complete the set I’ve been working on since 2001.

So yes, I’m fully aware that DVD is not as popular, and yes Blu ray and now 4K have surpassed it. Doesn’t mean I just throw out movies. Not trying to be rude either.

There are a fair few quality Saga cover sets on here, though I do like Phildesfr’s Blu-Ray Complete Set, here:-

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Phildesfrs-Blu-Ray-Complete-Set/id/56080

and also his Despecialized Covers sets, here:-

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Custom-blu-ray-setfor-the-Despecialized-Editions/id/18201

It may also be worth going through the Index thread to see which Saga sets you may like too.

I have seen those before, and use some for some of my blu ray sets. I just haven’t had a lot of luck finding a consistent set of covers for the DVDs of 1-8, which is why I decided to post.

If the problem is the printer like you seem to be saying at first, I don’t see how we can be of any help. You just have to get a professional quality printer/paper.

No, I meant more so I wanted the DVDs to have a consistent set. The two I printed look good on their own, but when they’re next to the retail covers, you can tell which are real and which are printed. So, ideally, I wanna have a set that’s all printed so they look like they all fit together better.

So, I recently replaced my TFA and TLJ DVD covers with ones that match the 2001-2006 DVD cover style. I like having it match, but I can see the difference between my home printer and professional print quality. I still wanna have a consistent look for my DVDs, could anyone point me towards a good matching set for Episodes I - VIII (bonus brownie points if there’s a matching cover for the 2004 bonus features disc and for Rogue One, but that’s not as important to me)? Thanks!

I’ve switched my focus over to the 50GB versions entirely now, so I am finishing up some flyers for inside the blu-ray cases which have some notes about the special features on discs one and two, and inside a listing of audio options and chapters. Should have something up here in a couple days. I think I’m ready to call this “done”! (for now, haha)

I assembled my copies using your covers and the early flyers you posted, and it looks amazing. Stunning work man 😃

This is my “WORK IN PROGRESS” for my custom set for the Despecialized Editions. This is just the “Insert” for Star Wars (1977). I’m giving my set a bronze/sepia color scheme.

That is a really interesting take, I like it. If I may put my two cents in, I think if you went with the font and colors like the film for “A long time ago…” and the crawl, they would really pop on that background.

Still working on them, trying to get the fronts done first because I have a very great idea of what I want from them. The backs always give me trouble in the arrangement and trying to look uber professional department. In shorter terms, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it…

Honestly, that’s the reason I don’t make covers. I am never happy with the back layout.

Wow. Stellar work, stealthboy, you really have a knack for making stunning covers and labels. Would you ever consider making a Criterion style set for the 35mm Trilogy (SSE and the two Grindhouse films)?

You know, I was considering including them in with my NJVC 50GB set. I have some extra three-disc Criterion cases, so I was contemplating including the SSE/Grindhouse as a third disc for each film…

That could be cool, and save some shelf space.

Puggo Strikes Back disc label?
Time

I have both Lexx’s amazing covers and the Puggo covers from Boba Feta. The Feta covers I have all the discs except for Empire, and I’m really hoping that Lexx made some discs to match his, but at this point if I can just get a matching set in either version I’ll be happy. I PMed Lexx, but I also wanted to post on here, just in case someone else has what I’m looking for and can point me in the right direction.

Ok, finished the six disc labels - two for each film. Disc one is “MAIN FEATURE” and disc two is “DOCUMENTARIES”. This is for the 50 GB version of the NJVC set.

Everything is up here:

Great work man, and good choice of art, I’d never seen that one for Empire before.

I think “Main Feature” sounds better, but that’s just me.

I agree. So that way we can use the existing JMoomer labels for DISC ONE. I just made a new DISC TWO for the documentaries for the 50GB version.

Oh, I didn’t even realize that. Yeah, if that also saves you some work, bonus. 😃

Here are my 50GB labels so far. I decided to make a new one for the main feature so I can keep my discs straight as I start to build out my 50GB nvjc set.

Wow, that X-Wing label is incredible.

Question: For the 50GB version of Star Wars, there are two discs: The main film + special features (50GB) and the documentaries disc (25GB). For the disc labels, what should they say?

DISC ONE: FILM + SPECIAL FEATURES
DISC TWO: DOCUMENTARIES

or just:

DISC ONE: MAIN FEATURE
DISC TWO: DOCUMENTARIES

?

I think “Main Feature” sounds better, but that’s just me.
