4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

I don’t think they could release anything without Lucasfilm’s permission. That would probably extend even to ANH post-2020.

My thinking is that Disney might come to their senses and realize that profits shared with Fox from an OOT blu-ray is still way more money than the profits they’d share from yet another reissue of the 2011 discs.

Working for a household name global company myself, I just can’t see them thinking that long term i.e. waiting until 2020 (when none of them will likely still be in the current roles).

Rightly or wrongly, they’ll be thinking of profits in the next year or two, surely?

4K restoration on Star Wars

I get that we’re on a forum called OriginalTrilogy, but we can favor the OT without bearing more of that toxic ill will or disrespect towards anyone else who thinks differently. If we want to put it in perspective, “pro-prequels” are more likely to be younger, and at a point you’re really just shit-talking kids. Way to go, champs.

This.

It’s the old saying - I think the Special Editions are beyond awful but I’d defend your right to say the opposite.

Star Wars Celebrations are fantastic - I’ve been to the last two. There’s something there for all ages, genders, generations, etc, and there’s such a happy atmosphere.

I hope fans at Celebration treat Hayden with respect. He’s really not a bad actor or guy, and he’s a fellow Star Wars fan when we get down to it.

But he’s an important part of the Star Wars legacy now whether you like it or not, and I hope no one tries to take that away from him or anyone else who’s grown up with or are fans of him.

Him being here or in TLJ won’t affect the original movies, our preservations, a possible 4K restoration, or whatever your personal perspective on Star Wars is.

He’s going to get a terrific reception at Celebration.

In my experience (two Celebrations) the audience is very much pro-prequel.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Whether they do it now and share the profit with Fox or wait three years and keep it (mostly) for themselves, I think Disney will inevitably restore the original versions.

Just not convinced though Fang that big corporations think like that i.e. sitting on a product for three years; their bean counters are (rightly) going to want to maximise everything. Three years down the line, they’ll all be in new roles anywhere.

Don’t they want as much as they can, as soon as it’s possible feasibly?

Anakin ghost old vs young
Time

Cutting to planets not in the OT makes no sense; it’s jarring as the viewer potentially has little idea what he/she is watching, plus narratively it’s far better to give our characters one low key night on Endor, before ‘tomorrow morning’ arrives and there’s an entire galactic regime to dismantle.

Replacing Shaw equally makes no sense. You can return to the handsome young guy and erode 20 years of destruction with one positive act? No, Anakin’s ghost needs to be the old man to symbolise a life wasted. Let alone further jarring by showing a version of the character neither Luke nor the view has never seen.

The music itself - i.e. replacing Ewok Celebration with Victory Celebration? Fair enough, if you must.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!

As a kid, RotJ was my favorite of the bunch. I loved the wide variety of scenery and locations, I loved the speeder bike chase, I loved the Eewoks and Jabba as completely new takes on aliens that I hadn’t seen before, and I loved badass jedi Luke. As I got older, I started to appreciate how subtly funny ESB really was and it became my favorite, but RotJ still holds a special place in my heart.

Yup!
