I'm going to this.
I'm going to this.

As much as I love Obi-Wan Kenobi, and as much as I love Ewan Macgregor, I wouldn't be able to accept Kenobi's inclusion in any further Star Wars movies played by Macgregor. The idea of Kenobi showing up as Ewan Macgregor ever again after being played by Guiness in the previous 3 movies just can't work. It would be a clunkiness that is far better to avoid by simply not including the character anymore, as much as he will be sorely missed.
Agreed.
Plenty of room to visit him on Tatooine between 3 and 4, anyway.
I'd given up on Star Wars totally until the announcement.
It was dead; iterations of meddling with the films I loved and prequels so badly disappointing.
But it's now open and anything is possible and that's exciting, and I love it.
Between Rebels, the new trilogy, the spin offs, the prospect of the OUT, something is going to be good and I can't wait.
Surely sensible, rational individuals at Disney recognise that Harmy's projects exist for a reason...
^ Is it on the 2011 BR set?

Whatever happens, I'm certain that we'll end up with something other than the 2011 versions. Is Lucas really going to walk into Iger's or Kennedy's office and say, "Vader MUST say no"?
Kennedy KNOWS. Let's hope she acts!
I don't think in a million years they'll de-canon, remake or amend the prequels - especially as they have a ton of decent supporting material with the Clone Wars (already declared canon).
They're flawed yes - but I would actually hate for Disney to "Special Edition" the prequels as what's good for the goose is what's good for the gander - we can't have it both ways and demand theatrical editions of one series and amend another.
As per a previous page, opinions toward the prequels would probably soften anyway were the OUT to be released.
They would for me anyway!
I think if Lucasfilm announced the OUT at Celebration the attendee nerd-gasms would last for a thousand generations!
Simple matter of their teams modelling up which projects have the greatest potential to drive immediate revenue, while expanding their market size and stickiness of that market.
Their teams MAY determine that the OUT has potential to bring back a lapsed 30-50 year old fan segment (which they'll size), plus add a younger, curious section to their existing base.
They may determine the benefit of the above not worth the added cost of the project (OUT restoration, speed to market, etc).
They may determine that an OUT releases increases customer stickiness and goodwill and will therefore add x% to the Ep 7 and beyond revenue.
But then they might model the effect as negligible and not even worth a PR bounce.
Either way I bet their teams have modelled it - which is exactly what the teams at Lucasfilm will have wanted to do prior to the sale.
The political reason why that didn't happen has gone.
I can drive a car but that don't mean I can compete in a Formula One race....
Great point above - I also would feel much more generous to the prequels if I had a quality OUT Blu-Ray.
But if they DO include the unaltered films - what would be the canon version?
Beard = superb!
2020 is a red herring as Fox own distribution for "Star Wars" in perpetuity anyway, so the companies are going to have to negotiate at some point.
It'll get done - Fox want the money, and Disney want the money and fan goodwill.
I'm quite sure Disney has seen the collective groans at past SE releases, documentaries like "People v GL", and booing of Greedo shooting first at screenings, etc.
They don't want that - and the primary cause of that is now happily enjoying his retirement.
Title-based marketing = yes please.
Maybe they'll do that after the heavy "number" focus of the PT - and we all know they're trying to avoid association with those films.
Agreed - timing and content points to aborted 3D OT from pre-Disney.
Overall - is this new scan evidence good news?
That's Tony Daniels in the pic not Max - it's captioned as such on the official SW site.

You guys can live with the Greedo change? Go sell that crazy somewhere else.

But it's still the GOUT for me. The straw was the loss of Sebastian Shaw in Jedi.
Ghost scene change came in 2004. In 1997 Sebastian Shaw is still the ghost.
That's my point. 2004 was the tipping point for me.
^
I could always live with the 97 Special Editions for the reasons you state, but the 04 & 11 changes were a disgrace.
But it's still the GOUT for me. The straw was the loss of Sebastian Shaw in Jedi.
What??

Another goodie from the CE2 panel. "YUB NUB" with the English lyrics. Just listen to those cheers when a certain Sebastian Shaw appears :) Let's just hope Disney was listening....

I was a little embarrassed to be the one who started the cheering.
Then good on you, Sir!
We had this with The Rock a couple months back.
Background character, low key, no problem.
Really tremendous. Enjoyed seeing that.
Yub Nub clearly superior but I thought your editing was really subtle and classy.
Like it!
