Did Dennis the Menace even audition for the role?

'Inexperienced'? Oh, do you mean 'critically acclaimed'? Actually, since Natalie Portman had both sci-fi and action film experience before playing Amidala, I think you must be thinking of a different teen actress and movie, my guess is Carrie Fisher in ANH.

OK, I think I know why I didn't understand where you were coming from in the previous quote, you think an actor or actress needs to appear in 12 films before they are considered 'experienced'. In my world, six cinematic releases is experienced, not 'extremely inexperienced'.

I think the casting was great, George Lucas simply isn't a good actor director, something he himself has admitted numerous times. The only alternate reality I can consider had Lucas not made the decisions you've posted is that you'd be complaining about how he should have cast Jake Lloyd over Dennis the Menace and Hayden Christensen over Ryan Phillipe!

Ewan McGregor being blamed for failure of "The Island" by producers (along with the Johanasson girl)
Time
I liked the movie.

While the producers are blaming the actors, director Michael Bay is blaming the Marketing Department.

I do agree that that US poster is terrible (dunno what the international one looked like, can't remember it), I basically saw nothing about it on TV and half the complaints here are about the trailer revealing too much so he probably does have a fair point, though wisely he doesn't lay all of the blame on them.

[edit]Actually, this defamer.com article is interesting, basically Bay has ended up taking the blame.[/edit]

Nope, he initially signed a three picture contract (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough), with an option for a fourth film (Die Another Day).

The new Bond for Casino Royale still hasn't been announced though every week there is a new rumour!

Yeah I know, it is only possible with a rewrite, but as I said, the final result looked no where near as bad as I thought it would.

In the last variant where I posted about Padme being the acting senator I also changed the word "returning" to "traveling." I wanted to know what the general feeling was on that. I mean, if you say returning, the question is from where. Well, you can say she's returning from Naboo...but why would you say returning? Did she recently leave and now she is coming back? Or is Coruscant her home? See, it doesn't make as much sense to say returning or returns. TM did have "en route," and while it conveys the idea, I agree that it is a bit clumsy to use in a title crawl. So, if someone could think of a word like "traveling" or a synonym that would be great.

I just looked at the official ep. II crawl and it does the same thing with the word "returning;" it isn't given any sort of context. I thought I remembered seeing the official crawl saying something about Padme returning for the first time in ten years, but after I looked at it I realized I was thinking of the Clone War by MagnoliaFan. He was first person to use the word "returning" and have it actually mean something!

I simply thought of the 'returning' as a reference to the events in TPM, but it also makes sense that as the Senator she would regularly visit Coruscant.

I think it should be remembered this is an edit by Trooperman -- he will do what he wants. We can all bitch if we want, but then it becomes time to do our own edit.

But it should also be remembered that Trooperman has asked for opinions on his edits, so presumably this edit is not ONLY for him, but also for the enjoyment of others (quite noble, I think I personally wouldn't care too greatly what others thought of any edits I ended up doing). The added bonus for Trooperman is he may end up with an edit that pleases him better than one based only off his own ideas. Of what little I've read in this thread I really haven't seen anyone 'bitch' about what they want.[/edit]

My personal favourite third paragraph variants are these two, they aren't overly wordy, formating isn't too bad and Amidala's name doesn't take up half the screen! Would have liked the uppercase ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC to all be on one line, but it hasn't ended up looking too bad at all. I'm with Trooperman on his ideas about Amidala's roles, it makes it seem like she really wants to make changes in the political system, something her honorary title of 'Queen' didn't really allow. While Rebel11_38's idea about the death of the previous Senator is interesting, I personally think the permanent role of Senator is more important for Amidala's character, showing her deep desire for change. You still don't lose the character's bravery as she still knows she is in danger and is still willing to push the issues.

Unless, as previously mentioned, the whole night ran like Mrs Doubtfire.

MagnoliaFan sits down with a large Coke as the lights go dim.

MagnoliaFan: Yeah!!

LucasFilm Employee: Hey have you seen Kevin Smith? He's meant to be here....

MagnoliaFan: Too much Coke! Can you excuse me while I go powder my nose?

MagnoliaFan runs out the door, throws on a trenchcoat and returns with popcorn.

LucasFilm Employee: Oh there you are, Kevin!

Kevin Smith: Is this seat free?

LucasFilm Employee: Sorry, some guy called... MagnetMan, I think... is sitting here. Actually he should be back now.

Kevin Smith: Oh! How rude of me! Eating this popcorn in front of you! I'll go buy you some too!

LucasFilm Employee: Don't trouble yourself, I'm fine.

Kevin Smith: No, no, I insist!

Kevin Smith runs out the door, whips of the coat and returns with two boxes of popcorn.

MagnoliaFan: I'm back, here's your popcorn.

LucasFilm Employee: Sorry? I thought you went to the toilet.

MagnoliaFan: Oh! Yes! That's what happened! Ummm... this guy in a trenchcoat gave me this popcorn, said it was for you...

LucasFilm Employee: Then where did he go? He's missing the best scene!

MagnoliaFan: Don't worry, I'll go look for him!

MagnoliaFan rushes out the door....

I think "quicktime H.264" needs QT7 only available on Mac.

While it does require QT7, it isn't only available on the Mac. You can also get the Windows Public Preview, which is now up to version 3, though I presume I only have version 1 (as I downloaded it over two months ago), but it worked just fine so I presume this version will be pretty solid.

A few quick points on the scroll...

First, looking real good at the moment, even though I can barely see any stars!

The initial problem with the spacing of the last line of the first paragraph shouldn't have been an issue as it shouldn't actually even be justified. I can't tell if this has been fixed in the latest version since it is far in the distance in the screenshot.

My only big problem with this crawl is the last line, I hate single word lines (or lines containing two short words)! It really disrupts the balance in paragraphs and I used to go to great lengths on the magazine I work on to avoid it at all costs (now most of my fixes are automated so I rarely have to do anything!). Now, I know this is actually a problem with the official crawl (twice actually in Ep II), but still something I personally would like fixed.

Also not really a fan of having 'en route' spread over two lines.

My suggested fix is to drop a line and make it more compact. Both ROTS and ROTJ had a crawl with one less line and ANH had an additional line so it wont be 'unofficial' to add or bump a line.

Info: Let me know if you want me to REVIEW your preservation / fan edit projects
Time
Hehe, I was going to suggest that if these reviews will be site-based instead of forum-based then PSYCHO_DAYV can write the reviews in their correct case then just use the CSS property 'text-transform:uppercase' on all the text. Then those who want to read his posts quicker can simply edit their own CSS and unconvert the text.

Yeah sorry I jumped the gun I have the short version, I am starting to look for the full version, if there is one.

From my very brief research it appears there were no full Super 8 Star Wars flicks and no ROTJ reels at all.

The best you can get are the two-part 17-18 minute reels for ANH and ESB, so a total of about 70 minutes

[edit]Apparently there were two versions of the first ESB reel, so you possibly could get another couple of minutes out of both.[/edit]

Help: looking for... Waterworld - Extended Version
Time

Just wondering if anyone here has a decent copy of the Waterworld Extended Version?

It was first shown on USA’s ABC in 1998, repeated in 2000, then again on Encore in 2002. The Extended Version contains an additional 40 minutes than the theatrical release, footage supposedly cut against the will of the director, Kevin Reynolds.

It specifically refers to 'The Definitive Collection' Laserdisc set, but since many of the restoration projects here used this set as the source it can be applied to them also. The only other Laserdisc set commonly used here is the 'Faces' set.

Hehe, thought you'd appreciate it, zion!

It was my first conversion of a Flash animation to GIF, all done manually (including modifying the disc hub to be transparent over the default OT.com blues, which of course can't be seen at all now at the shrunk size!). I wonder if there are any automated Flash to GIF programs that are capable of extracting elements out of the background, would speed up the process a lot! I actually have a vague idea for yet another HR/OT.com related animated sig which I'll either make a rotating image script for or just give to someone else.
