The Prequel Trilogy Revised - concept trailers released (WIP)
Time

I am very impressed by a lot of the changes you are making here. The new visuals look excellent, and I have a lot of respect for you because of that.

One of my only problems though is that I hate how this edit will try to hide that Anakin becomes Vader in Revenge of the Sith. The whole crux of the prequel trilogy is that it explains how Anakin became Vader. It’s the very reason audiences are invested, the reason the movies exist. Sure, there’s also the fall of the Republic and the Jedi and Palpatine’s rise to power, but let’s be honest, everybody was most invested in the birth of Vader. There’s so much forshadowing all over the place. Besides, everybody and their grandma knows the twist, so trying to preserve it is pointless work. It’d be like if in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy they tried to hide the fact that it’s on Earth to preserve the twist at the end of the original film that everybody already knows and is essential to know to understand why those movies are being made and the story they are telling (in that case, to show how the apes took over Earth). Anakin’s transformation into Vader are some of my favorite parts of the whole film, I don’t want that erased. Knowing Anakin is Vader and his backstory adds so many layers to the OT as well that weren’t there before, and I’d hate to see that gone too. It’s ridiculous to legit destroy Revenge of the Sith to preserve a “surprise” that every human being on the planet who has ever laid their eyes on a motion picture has known since 1980.

And without it it doesn’t make any sense. Obi-Wan says in ANH, “Vader betrayed and murdered your father”, but what we see in Revenge of the Sith is that Anakin betrayed and killed a ton of the Jedi and then was left to burn… and then Darth Vader shows up. Right there everybody will know that Anakin is Vader. According to Obi-Wan’s lie, Anakin remained good and was a victim of Vader’s betrayal. So seeing Anakin betray the Jedi and do evil things only makes sense knowing he’s Vader. We also know that Vader was NOT Obi-Wan’s apprentice, Anakin was; there was no “young Jedi named Darth Vader”, so the lie also falls apart there. With the information that Anakin is Vader we already know Obi-Wan is lying, but it’d be really weird to try to change the films so we won’t know he’s lying when it’s obvious we would. If you’re that desperate to preserve the mystery for your future kids or whatever, just show them the originals first.

I also disagree with removing Yoda. It just seems so… weird, that he wouldn’t be there. He’s just rotting away on Dagobah the whole time, letting the whole world crumble? How did he supposedly train Obi-Wan? And I love Yoda in the prequels.

I apologize if I sound like an ass. I am really thankful that you will be making purist versions in this case (and that I’m making my own fan-edits), 😛 as I absolutely love what you’re doing with the visuals and a lot of your ideas (like Dooku in TPM? Genius!), but as I said I disagree with the things above.

The "Vader Edition" Star Wars Saga - Episodes 1-6 Edits (WIP)
Time

My AOTC fan-edit is now done, and will be available tomorrow.

As I’ve said the ROTS edit is pretty much finished except for Padme’s new death, so that will be the next thing I’ll be working on. I’ll post videos of my progress (as I speculate the reason why this hasn’t gotten much attention is because of the lack of videos, but I’ll correct this).

Since nobody has volunteered I’m going to do the Yoda and Palpatine lines. Time to put my impression skills to the test 😎

'Godzilla - The Heisei Series' Remastered (a WIP)
Time

The Heisei series has always been my favorite of the eras of Godzilla. I love the stories and continuity, I love the aesthetic and kaiju designs, I love the music, the special effects were some of the most impressive the franchise has ever shown, and it easily has the most iconic and quintessential portrayal of Godzilla (at least its easily my personal favorite). Biollante, King Ghidorah, MGII, and Destoroyah are my all time favorite kaiju movies. However, the series still isn’t flawless. Not all of the effects have aged well, the foreign acting (especially in Biollante and King Ghidorah) is laughably bad and extraordinarily cringe, the first entry (The Return of Godzilla) is in my opinion an absolute stale bore that puts me to sleep whenever I decide to put myself through the chore of sitting through it, and other things. But I’d like to fix these.

Here is a link to a Google doc where I have compiled my ideas for all six movies. None of these are completely finalized (in fact the lists for the last 3 Heisei films are more like bullet points then a specific list, but more details will be added as I go on) so feel free to suggest things: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VClStpc09q0TfAV-_dHSzY6ZfJzaUww_HcdXoGWkk6k/edit?usp=sharing

Changes made to all films
-All films are given a completely new color grade, adjusted to my liking. Most of which are saturation and brightening effects to make them even more colorful. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II especially, as the Japanese Blu-Ray looks very dull and washed out, worse than the Japanese DVD (proving it’s not a problem with the film itself, but the Blu-Ray transfer). The film seems to have a grey filter applied to the whole thing. In fact I’d even say both TriStar transfers are better, even the DVD one. The whole film now looks much brighter and more appealing.
-Brand new subtitles for all Japanese dialogue. I know this may cause controversy, but my goal here was not to create the most accurate translation, rather have the dialogue be as good as possible. I use lines from the fandubs included with Gorizard’s uploads of the Japanese versions on archive.org and lines from the dubtitles interchangeably to my liking, and sometimes I even change the line entirely myself simply to make it better. I apologize if this offends anyone who thinks it’s offensive to straight up make up dialogue, but I thought it would really benefit these edits to take complete advantage of the situation and have free reign to adjust the dialogue in any way I please, to make it all good (not that the dialogue was particularly bad in the Heisei series overall or anything, but this does still give me free reign to do things like explain the time travel plot in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah better and fix any clunkers, especially one’s present in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla).
-All English in the film is replaced with the English dubbed version. The dubs just generally have better performances when it comes to the non-Japanese speaking roles throughout the films, look no further then Dr. Asimov from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Honestly I think the guy who did the dub for him did a really good job. Mileage does vary depending on the instance but in any case the dub is still better.
-Any instance in which a monster has its mouth open but there’s no roar sound effect to accompany it is either chopped, trimmed, or has a sound effect added to it. This actually happens a LOT in every Toho Godzilla movie. This gives me a nice opportunity to add some awesome Millennium Godzilla grunt and growl sound effects, which I think would still fit and make him sound even more ferocious. I also plan on adding later Heisei roars to earlier Heisei films (the ones that sound more like the classic Showa roars) as well as adding early Heisei roars to the later Heisei films. This makes it so Godzilla doesn’t randomly just change his roars in the middle of the series, rather he always has both.
-I’d like to edit the Return of Godzilla / Godzilla vs. Biollante hybrid and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah so Godzilla has the fiery yellow-red “Sith” eyes the entire series, as I love that design choice in the later Heisei films. Not confirmed, though.

Suggestions are more then welcome.

The opening dream sequence was ludicrously over-the-top

Really? If you’re talking about the stuff Vader does then its just the Rogue One hallway scene but with Clone Troopers and Vader stopping the blaster bolts with the force, while also choking the Emperor. Vader’s shown stronger feats in the comics.

And besides, it’s a dream.

StarkillerAG said:

the dialogue was terrible

What lines did you find offensive? I actually thought it really fits the universe and characters.

StarkillerAG said:

Mace Windu’s survival was a ridiculous concept.

Alright, I can see why someone would think that. Jedi tend to be really good with falling from great heights, but it is completely subjective.

StarkillerAG said:

In my opinion, it’s everything wrong with prequel fans’ interpretation of Star Wars.

What’s being misinterpreted here? The only thing I can think of is Vader being less cold and more attached, but I think the intent of this fan-film was to show HOW he went from more emo to the cold dark lord we see in the OT.

No attack on your opinion is meant here, I’m just curious to see what you mean.

I’m working on a dinosaur documentary project in the vain of Walking with Dinosaurs, a prehistoric nature documentary that I really love. I love it because of how great it is from a documentary-making standpoint. The only problem is that I also think it begs for a remake, due to having become outdated in terms of scientific accuracy through the last 20 years. I’ve never been satisfied by any dinosaur documentary since then, none have as good of storytelling or fundamental understanding of the natural world, and too many portray dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals as monsters that do nothing but fight and kill when they should behave like animals that partake in countless different behaviors. My documentary aims to be completely accurate, tell compelling stories, and portray dinosaurs and their cohabitants as the beautiful, spectacular animals they really were. It will be called “Dinosauria: Ascension, Domination, Downfall”. I have considered possibly making a thread about it in a fitting section of the forum.

Anyway, just a few days ago I contacted a person who is a part of a group that does fantastic, pretty much perfect-looking 3D models for dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals and his prices are excellent and actually shocked me.

Here is the link to their page: https://www.artstation.com/jaggedfangdesigns

I am very hyped to be working with these people. They seem to be as dedicated to scientific accuracy as myself and the rest of my team. This is a real morale booster and has given me good faith that I will actually be able to produce this thing.

I think the only con to moving the Dagobah scenes to the opening act would be that the film would lose some of that ambiguity regarding Luke’s allegance at the beginning. The moment Luke arrives to Jabba’s palace kind of plays with the possibility of him having turned to the dark (being arrogant, Force-choking the guards, wearing black and a sinister-looking cloak, etc.).

But otherwise, the arrangement would explain why the Rebels went with such a hasty plan, it would make Luke’s power upgrade more believable and his intervention more badass in hindsight. Anyway, regardless of how you restructure your edt, the important thing is that the film should adequatly convey Luke’s conflict with the dark side.

Yeah, I think the positives of this change would outweigh the negatives. And I think there’s still plenty there to show he’s tipping a little towards the dark side. In fact, what if the reason he’s somewhat angry, violent, and arrogant is because he’s internally frustrated with Obi-Wan and Yoda that they’re forcing him to kill his father, which he doesn’t want to do. So his more aggressive behavior is him venting some of that frustration.

And I would be totally interested to have your Phantom Menace version!

Thanks man, a DM is on the way (I just gotta wait for the file to finish uploading to Google Drive, kinda forgot about that part lol, shouldn’t be too long tho).

The "Vader Edition" Star Wars Saga - Episodes 1-6 Edits (WIP)
Time

I have decided to implement a new idea into my Return of the Jedi fan-edit. Basically there’s going to be a new opening crawl that states that after his defeat to Darth Vader in ESB, Luke returns to Dagobah to train with Yoda, and his allies have formulated a plan to free Han Solo from Jabba (including the droids). My idea is that the film will be edited to make it appear as if Luke had been training with Yoda in the time period between ESB and this film, which explains how Luke became a better, more powerful Jedi in-between. It also helps the plan to free Han Solo make more sense, as now the efforts by the others can be seen as them attempting to free Han without Luke during his absence on Dagobah. However, since their plan doesn’t work, Luke has to go to Tatooine to save their asses. The scenes on Dagobah will be moved to the beginning and intercut with the Jabba’s palace scenes.

Btw, my The Phantom Menace edit has been exported and is now available. It’s more of a combination of others edits so I know mine isn’t exactly revolutionary or anything, but if you find my version appeals to you based on the list of edits on the document linked in the first post then I’d be happy to share it with anyone. Don’t hesitate to DM if interested 😃

Next is Attack of the Clones, which I anticipate will be available soon.

Star Wars Theory's Darth Vader Fan Series

So either I’m an idiot or there isn’t a thread for Star Wars Theory’s Darth Vader Fan Series, which surprises me a little but ok.

Link to Episode 1: Shards of the Past
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey68aMOV9gc

I was incredibly impressed upon my first viewing of this film and it’s still a feast for my eyes. The special effects are top notch for a fan-film and a lot of it honestly looks professional. I also think the dialogue, acting, costumes, music, and sets are really great. The only slight thing that bugs me is references to old Legends canon like Vader losing potential (though this was probably just Palpatine telling him that to intensify his anger, and saying that he won’t achieve his potential if he doesn’t completely let go of Padme and his old life) and the Palpatine keeping him trapped in his suit, when the new canon comics make it clear that Vader didn’t lose any of his force potential, being even more powerful then Anakin, and he can modify and improve his suit to his liking. And I do recall Theory saying he wants this series to fit in with canon. But these are very minor nitpicks.

I’m very hyped for episode 2 in which we will see Vader fight Mace Windu and a slew of other Jedi, which will be great, I’ve always wanted to see Vader duel more Jedi to showcase how powerful of a duelist he is.

Even if Disney doesn’t recognize it as canon, this series is so good I consider it to be a part of my personal canon (along with my personal fan-edits).

Pretty nice idea, the voice acting for that trooper was very well done.
though how would the order of the scenes go?

I don’t know if Vader talking to Piett is necessary though, mostly to keep continuity with ESB.

Yeah I definitely agree. I’d probably edit it so he tells the thing about closing the space ports to the same trooper.

Man, I’m not a native speaker. I meant the way he’s portrayed in general.
In Empire he was menacing, cold, fully committed to the dark side. IMO he should stay that way until the duel in the Throne Room.

…ok, I don’t think I sounded hostile but I apologize if you think it was. I was just saying that’s an interesting perspective. No insult intended.

I removed the “It’s too late for me, son”. Usually people complain about Vader in ROTJ and how he looks and sounds way less menacing than in Empire. At this point, IMHO, he should still be that, the powerful inhuman machine. If he says to Luke that it’s too late for him, it sounds like he would like to be redeemed (something which I don’t like).

Well that’s an interesting perspective, I’ve never heard complaints about that before. I always thought the character work with Vader was one of the most well-liked parts of ROTJ.

What do you mean by “looks”? IIRC it’s literally the same costume as in ESB. And he still has plenty of menacing lines.

I agree with the person above on some things, I don’t like that the scene of Vader arriving on the Death Star was removed. I really like that scene and I thought it was a great idea to have even more buildup for the Emperor, like Vader’s foreboding warning. I also thought “It’s too late for me, son” is a really powerful line.

I really like a lot of the new visuals, like the updated mattes, Han’s defrosting, the enhancement of Obi-Wan’s force ghost, the scene with Han and Lando talking about the Falcon looks way better, Vader having a more red lightsaber (how did you do that?), the enhanced views of the planets from space, but IMO the Emperor’s throne room is too dark, it kind of even makes it look like it’s in black and white. I also think that the glow for the lightsabers, Palpatine’s eyes, and force lightning goes a little overboard, and that the color correction during the Sarlacc Pitt sequence looks too pale. I did like some of the new music you included but I also think sometimes it was fine the way it was. I don’t have anything against including prequel music in OT edits but sometimes I just felt the original track worked better. I liked trimming the Ewoks, getting rid of Han’s jealousy and trimming some of Leia’s cheesy lines during her talk with Luke.

Overall I have some mixed feelings but I do see that a lot of effort and thought went into this and I commend you for it.
