'Godzilla - The Heisei Series' Remastered (a WIP)

Sweet! Yeah I just read thorough your SW 6 film edit and am excited to see where that goes as well. Always nice to see edits of ANH include the Scene 38 recreation. Also really intrigued to see how the Jar Jar dub is pulled off in full movie length.

Definitely want to see you get the SW one done, since I’m a bigger SW fan lol. But cant wait to see what you can pull off with this project, since I feel the Heisei series as a lot of potential to be something really great, if tweaked a bit.

You said you did an edit of 54? Can I get a PM of that? Would love to check it out!

Epic, I’m glad you agree with me about Scene 38. I love how it does Darth Vader justice. The new Vader comics show him to be incredibly powerful and the best lightsaber duelist ever, and the films should be consistent with that IMO. And my Phantom Menace edit is already done, so it technically already has been pulled off.

Do you have any suggestions for either the Star Wars or Heisei edits? You seem very hyped for them and I always love to hear suggestions and feedback. If you have something in mind I’d like to address it.

Yes, my edit of 54 is called “This is Tokyo”. It combines the original Japanese version with the American version. There’s a thread here about it. I’ll PM you the link, as well as the link for the Star Wars edits.

Any update on this? The Heisei series is my all time favorite, and this full on fanedit sounds incredible. Cutting the first two movies together especially, since I also find the first one to be a drag to watch through on a marathon.

I’m glad to see that you think it sounds great. It’s always nice to see that some are excited for a project, it greatly improves my morale to actually see to it that it gets done.

Admittedly I haven’t been working on this much as I’ve been focusing more on other projects (my dinosaur documentary project and my Star Wars edits), but once I’m done with my Revenge of the Sith edit then I’ll start working on this.

I have been starting to doubt whether I’ll actually be able to effectively combine Return of Godzilla and Biollante, as it will mess with continuity quite a bit. Maybe instead of combining them in a way that makes it seem like they’re happening at the same time (as I originally thought), I’ll edit it so a heavily cut-down 84 acts as like a prologue at the beginning (there is something like that in the actual opening of Biollante but this one would be more expansive), still taking place 5 years before. Godzilla would still look different but not really much I can do about that.

I may also offer two options: one edit of 84 and Biollante combined into one film and another option in which they are still separate movies. I will trim down 84 to pick up the pace (and probably even add the American scenes of Raymond Burr like I did with my 54 edit, because Steve Martin is awesome), and have a separate Biollante fan-edit that still makes a lot of the changes I was going to for that movie:

-Cut the scene where Gondo talks about the prime minister not believing the psychic children. There’s literally an institute designated for psychic children and the prime minister doesn’t even believe they exist?
-Cut the scene where Kirishima and Azuka talk about making the bacteria at night time. This scene really doesn’t give us any new information and I feel like the first half of this movie takes too long to get started.
-Cut the part where Miki draws Rose Biollante. It ruins any suspense and surprise of seeing Biollante for the first time.
-Cut all of the scenes that split the battle between Godzilla and the Super X II, removing that terrible shot of Godzilla’s head rising from the water, removing excess fat, and not stopping the momentum of the film.
-The scene where Doctor Shiragami talks to the news woman and when he, Miki, and Azuka realize Erika is no longer in Biollante is moved after the battle with Godzilla and the Super X II.
-After Miki says “Biollante was calling out to Godzilla!” it cuts to the shot of Godzilla walking to Lake Ashi at night with added sound effects, as the music playing during the clip is continued from the scene that I cut below.
-As a result, the scene of the military getting into position before the first fight is removed.
-Cut the two times Godzilla completely misses Biollante by a long shot with his atomic breath near the end of the fight. Like seriously, it’s as if he intentionally missed! What’s the point?
-Cut the scene with the helicopters after the first fight.
-Cut the entire subplot of “We sent everything to Isle Bay and Godzilla actually appeared in Osaka!” as it just convoluted the film. It doesn’t even need to exist for the plot to make sense, and it takes focus away from the much more interesting subplot of Miki trying to change Godzilla’s direction with her telepathy.
-Cut the part where Azuka makes the soldiers leave the platform. It’s probably the most illogical thing in this movie. Why would you get rid of your own protection and transport? And you really think that you’re more qualified to be in such a dangerous situation then trained soldiers?!

This way people who like 84 a lot won’t be left out. I do think it has it’s good parts, but the pace needs to be picked up.

I don’t think that’s necessary, the scene needs to stay a personal exchange between Anakin and Luke, adding more characters would break the mood of the moment. Unless you make it extremely subtle and short, like a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shadow.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but yeah, I agree, I won’t include this and I’ll leave it the way it is.

I’m pretty much done with the first draft of Padme’s edited death, but does anybody know of a time when Yoda says “the living force”? I’m trying to construct a line from him that goes “Losing the living force, she is. The work of the Sith, this must be.” by using words from different clips of Yoda speaking.

Working on new Padme death for ROTS. Here’s the 21B droid telling Palpatine that something’s up. Had to roto in a small clip from ESB and extend it the best I could, since the close-up lasts like less then 2 seconds.

I was going to try rotoscoping in Palpatine when he does his low growls during the knighting of Vader as a way of representing him doing the “taking life to give life” ritual, but it’s hard to get it to look right with all the hair and it does screw a bit with the continuity (as he’s wearing his red chancellor robes instead of black Sidious robes), so I’m thinking I’ll just insert a VO using Clone Wars dialogue.

Have you considered incorporating the popular fan-theory in Revenge of the Sith that Palpatine drained the living force from Padme and gave it to Vader? I think it’s a great way to show how Palpatine obviously never wanted to actually help Anakin save Padme, and it makes perfect sense: he wants Padme out of the equation.

I know it’s something I would like to do for my ROTS edit.

Sounds like an awesome idea. I always loved dinosaurs and paleontology as a kid, and I watched Walking With Dinosaurs over and over again. But that documentary is a bit outdated now, and I’d love to see an updated version, especially with the impressive team you’ve assembled so far.

Thanks, I totally agree with you. I’ll be posting updates on this thread for anyone who wants to stay in the loop with this project.

Dinosauria: Ascension, Domination, Downfall - Brand New Dinosaur Documentary Project
Time

Dinosauria: Ascension, Domination, Downfall is an upcoming prehistoric wildlife documentary series I am creating that aims to be the most scientifically accurate, up-to-date and compelling dinosaur documentary to date.

Official Poster by a fantastic paleoartist who goes by Prehistorica on Twitter:

It’s of a Tyrannosaurus couple sharing a nice meal together.

Official Website: https://dinosauriadocumentary.com

Me and my team are striving to create a documentary that does two crucial things we believe are essential to making an exemplary natural history documentary:

  1. Accurately showcasing the Mesozoic era (the era often dubbed “the age of the dinosaurs”) and the animals that lived in it in all of their glory, portraying dinosaurs and other giant reptiles like pterosaurs, plesiosaurs, etc. as the real animals they actually were. Our documentary will not portray these beautiful creatures as inept, obsolete monsters that constantly got into violent fights, but as powerful, extremely successful and active animals that practice many behaviors modern animals do today. Our documentary will educate it’s viewers on these animals’ evolution, anatomical features, diet, their ecological relationships with other animals, possible social lives with members of their own kind, how their environment affected the way they lived, how they hunted, fought, reproduced, and much more.
  2. Creating riveting stories that engage viewers into the world these animals lived in. We want to produce episodes that not only educate, but excite and captivate our audience with scenarios that invoke sympathy for the animals. Our goal is to make a documentary that will be exhilarating, beautiful, thrilling, and even sometimes sad; a magnificent, awe-inspiring masterpiece not seen since BBC’s award-winning mini-series Walking with Dinosaurs.

Dinosauria will consist of 10 episodes, each one taking place in a different time and location in the Mesozoic. These episodes will be around 30-45 minutes long, and will be produced with a mix of CGI and practical puppets (though mostly the former). Think like Walking with Dinosaurs, but bigger in scope and updated to current scientific rigor.

More info is to come.

Star Wars saga - Extra Extended Edition (1080p) (* unfinished project / WIP *)

Wow, this sounds incredibly ambitious and I am looking forward to it, especially the ROTS scene of Yoda communicating with Qui-Gon and the ROTJ scene with Darth Vader in his meditation chamber trying to reach Luke. I’ve never seen anyone try to restore these scenes. Would it be possible to get a preview of them?

They both go. Not together though. Its implied that Sidious goes in secret to murder the children and the blame is laid on Anakin. Since its not something Anakin is ordered to do or would likely do. Then when Padame mentions the story told to her by Obi, Anakin dismissing it is because its more lies of the Jedi as far as he is concerned

This is a fantastic idea.

I just came up with an idea for a small dialogue change in Revenge of the Sith: you know the one line in which Sidious says “To cheat death is a power only one has achieved but if we work together, I know we can discover the secret”? While I absolutely love the delivery, I find it kind of strange because his previous lines say to Anakin he already knows how to do it, and giving away that he doesn’t is really odd. So I’d like to find a way to change the line so it’s “To cheat death is a power only a Sith can achieve”, which leads Anakin to say “I pledge myself, to your teachings.”

Very minor change, but I think it’ll improve the scene. What do you guys think?

Personally, I find it more compelling to see Anakin redeemed and becoming the person he should have been, which in ROTJ is Shaw, rather than an apparent regression to before he made the final few steps to turning evil.

That’s an interesting perspective.

BedeHistory731 said:

Also, until somebody like jhon, Sir Ridley, or Snooker does a “good” version of the Hayden Anakin ghost (i.e. not using Shaw’s body, Anakin giving a truly proud or happy expression like Shaw, and maybe wearing something akin to his ROTS robes), I’d say stick with Shaw.

I totally get your preference, but it’s more than just “purists” who prefer Shaw.

I do think that it would be great to see that, as it does kinda bother me how in one of the shots he kind of gives this creepy-vibe with one of his smiles. But until that happens (or I should probably say if it does) I’ll probably still stick with Hayden.

I do apologize for that rather ignorant, gatekeeping statement.

Do you plan on reinstating Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ?

Nope, and I explain why on the changes document, but I’ll post my reasons here too.

  1. Anakin/Vader was only 46 when he died in-universe. Hayden Christensen is currently 39 and still looks a lot like he did in Revenge of the Sith (honestly they could reshoot scenes with him now and it wouldn’t even look like he aged a day). I’m pretty sure he’s not going to suddenly look like Sebastian Shaw in another 7 years. The only reason he looks old when unmasked is because of the physical toll the dark side has on one’s appearance. If he had never been disfigured or turned to the dark side, which I’m assuming is the image shown of him when he’s a force ghost, he would still look relatively young, and a lot like he did in Revenge of the Sith. He never looked like Sebastian Shaw in canon, and the only reason that was probably done in the original film is because I assume Vader was originally going to be older then he is in the now established canon.
  2. People point out that Obi-Wan and Yoda are old and Anakin is young as a supposed reason as to why having Hayden Christensen as the force ghost is dumb, but that’s because, again, Anakin died relatively young. It’s as simple as that. In fact if anything it’s a luxury as Obi-Wan and Yoda got to live longer lives (though the quality of their longer lives is kinda debatable).
  3. Seeing Anakin as we saw him from Revenge of the Sith has much more of an emotional impact on the viewer then seeing a random old man never seen before (I know it did on me). Not saying the audience would be too stupid to connect the dots that it’s Anakin, but I know from personal experience that seeing Anakin as his Revenge of the Sith self really has much more of an emotional resonance with audiences.

Him looking like Sebastian Shaw makes absolutely no logical sense. It’s literally only done in other edits because of purist personal bias.

In your version, the deleted scene should ideally be placed somewhere before Anakin’s first nightmare. The political stance of the Jedi regarding Palpatine needs to be established early in the film.

When Anakin and Obi-Wan land at Coruscant after the battle, Obi-Wan mentions he’s going to meet with the Council. Maybe the Yoda/Windu/Obi-Wan talk could be inserted there, before or after Grievous arrives on Utapau. You may need a new Jedi Temple establishing shot to add immediately before the deleted scene, this way the musical transitions between scenes would be less jarring.

That’s a great idea, thanks 😃

A couple months ago I was inspired by the “New canon cut” and gave a try to reinserting the council deleted scene, but I cut Yoda’s last line so he can say it later during hologram briefing scene later in the film. Here, he just (reluctantly) nods.
https://youtu.be/9Qrghd3sK7U

Nice! I’ve been inspired a little bit by NFBisms’ new canon cut too, though of course I’m not including all of his changes.

The thing is though, I’m trying to figure out where I’d put this scene, because unlike many of the edits that use it, I’m keeping the original placement of Anakin’s dream and his scene with Padme and then Yoda when he talks about it with them. I not only love both scenes and think they are well-written, but I also think the latter one is especially important as it shows that Anakin does initially go to the Jedi for help, but Yoda doesn’t give him a solution other then “Let Padme die”, which isn’t what Anakin wants. I feel like this is an important step in Anakin’s turn to the Sith, the Jedi refusing him but the Sith offering him a way. I’m also keeping the first dream in it’s original place as it’s important that Anakin receives these dreams over and over, as it increases his stress about it and makes him more and more determined to prevent it from happening. Any suggestions as to where I could place this deleted scene?

Btw, the reason Anakin didn’t say anything when Obi-Wan was being chosen to lead the mission against Grievous wasn’t out of pettiness, but because Anakin had no say in council matters because he wasn’t a master. He was only there to be Palpatine’s representative and nothing more. That’s why he was frustrated when he was denied the rank.

I’ve made some tweaks to my AOTC edit to fix up some of the transitions and some additional minor changes. In case this wasn’t picked up on before, it’s now available.

I’ve been working on my ROTS edit. I’ve been considering some other minor dialogue trims, added another deleted scene and of course Padme’s new death is still in the works. I’ve been considering adding the deleted scene in which Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda talk about their suspicions about Palpatine for the same reason others do, to show that the Jedi are onto Palpatine from the beginning, but I haven’t completely decided yet. I’d be interested in hearing input from others.

I happened to stumble upon this video and I’m considering editing this idea into my TPM edit. I like it as it makes the music more unique when it’s reprised in ROTS, and I think it’s very fitting for the scene. What do you guys think?

I have zero plans of cutting Anakins journey. The only cuts to Anakin are small things to do with dialogue and snipping a couple creepy looks at padame. Mitachlorines obviously. Not much in ROTS to do with Anakin is being snipped. This is his story and journey. I won’t be hiding Anakin getting maimed by Obiwan or becoming Vader (Except maybe if i do an alt cut to fit Ady’s rough ideas.- He was going to have all sabers blue, and Anakin’s transformation to Vader.) but thats it. I never had a problem with Anakin being shown to be Vader, as i prefer to watch in the Machete order.

I feel a great disturbance in the force, as if every fiber of my being just felt a great swell of relief due to these words.
