<s>Why I Love Prequel Yoda</s> (<em>Outdated</em>)
Time

Uhhhh, try again.

He wasn’t shocked when he was looking at the corpses in the temple because he already felt their deaths. But in the temple scene he was clearly sad and hurt. Just the way he says “Padawan” makes it so obvious.

This image is technically from a later scene but he makes the same kind of expressions, and this also shows that he was clearly distraught that Anakin fell to the dark side and murdered Jedi.

He went to fight Palpatine because they needed to destroy the Sith to try and bring back the Republic as soon as possible. I’m surprised your faulting the guy who’s famous for saying “Do, or do not, there is no try” for actually attempting to DO something about the horrible things that have transpired. You’re seriously suggesting the two remaining Jedi should’ve just never tried to stop the Emperor? “Screw this, go get drinks, we should, Obi-Wan. Forget the Sith wreaking havoc on the galaxy, we should. Only allowed to sit on cushions, we are.” Like, how DARE the heroes try to stop the villains!

It was only after realizing that the Emperor already won and that he can’t beat him that he flees, that it would be better for him to exile himself so there’s hope for a future for the Jedi.

Don’t forget, in the original trilogy he wanted Luke to kill Vader and the Emperor. The Jedi are not above killing Sith when they need to.

Return of the Jedi: Radical Re-Edit (Released)
Time

So I skimmed through the version with the Boba Fett subplot. The plot itself is absolutely genius; from a writing perspective every new scene of Boba is great, especially the point him and Han’s final confrontation happens and having him be killed by the AT-ST controlled by Chewie. That should’ve been in the actual movie (though that would present problems for The Mandalorian). I also love the graphics for the views from inside the helmet (like when he’s watching Vader and Luke leave Endor). The only problem is the visual execution. It’s not so much the fan-film footage itself, which is good, but it’s implementation. It should’ve been color corrected to match the rest of the movie. The only part where it didn’t look off was when Boba watches Vader leave with Luke on Endor. There’s also the problem that there aren’t voice lines for Boba for most of the movie. There is one scene (when he asks a dead storm trooper where Han is) and the dude who voiced him did a good job, though I’m guessing that they weren’t able to get the person who voiced him in that to do the rest, as the line probably came from the fan-film they got the footage from. But the rest of his scenes just have text with what he’s supposed to say. The lines themselves are good. However, it is a workprint so I will give that a pass. It’s just a shame that it was cut and never polished, since I was thinking about possibly trying to put the subplot into my own ROTJ edit in the future. I won’t hold it against this edit though.

I’m really glad I got two copies of the edit, as in the Boba version the entire movie is sped up slightly. This is very noticeable because every voice is in a higher pitch. There were also some other things that were very well improved in the newer workprint, like the scene with Vader communicating with Luke after they leave Tatooine; in the Boba version, the footage of Vader is very squished to avoid seeing General Veers. However, the most recent version convincingly cuts Veers out without the footage of Vader being scrunched.

I will definitely applaud the editor here for the effort. Even if it doesn’t always look the best, it was really ambitious, creative, the idea was brilliant, and it looks like they did the best they could with what they had. I’m also very grateful to stretch for being able to provide both versions of the edit. You’re awesome.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>
Time

Isn’t the video in 480p to start? Why would you need to upscale it to that?

How does it look? Are you willing to share your upscale? I would be curious to see it in 1080p or at least 720p.

Also, there was someone who made this. Apparently they upscaled it to 4K and it looks absolutely incredible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6mA1U3lUVc

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]
Time

Bad Batch arc was fun, so I liked it.

My main problems with the sisters is that one of them was really annoying (she wouldn’t ever shut up about her ship to the point where it was beyond obnoxious; and again, literally the worst decision they could’ve made in that situation was dropping the freakin’ spice) and the arc dragged out for way too long. It felt like filler and nothing important was happening. And Knight said another reason why it bothers me: they legit neglected doing an animated Son of Dathomir or a Canon Invasion of Coruscant by Grievous to do… this. Those two would’ve been amazing and are stuff I’d actually like to see. The latter could’ve been a good opportunity to portray Grievous as an actual badass instead of a loser and it would’ve shown off the awesome new model they made for him too (speaking of putting good models to use, let’s just say I hope the ending of Clone Wars isn’t the last time we’ll see that Vader model). And I don’t need to explain why they should’ve adapted Son of Dathomir.

It wouldn’t bother me so much if they had more episodes and therefore were able to do those two arcs plus the three in the actual season, but limiting it to three arcs and choosing the Martez Sisters one over Son of Dathomir is just beyond stupid, especially since Son of Dathomir has LEGIT ACTUAL IMPORTANT PLOT DETAILS THAT ARE NEEDED IN ORDER FOR SIEGE OF MANDALORE AND THE END OF SEASON 5 TO MAKE SENSE. You shouldn’t have to read a comic book in order to understand the plot of the series. I have absolutely nothing against comic books (Vader comics are my favorite Star Wars thing Disney has put out period) but when making a series you need everything important to be in the series itself, not supplemental material. Anybody who doesn’t know that the Son of Dathomir comic exists will be left super confused by Season 5’s ending and then suddenly Maul is back running Mandalore in Season 7. Besides Son of Dathomir is incredible and deserves to be animated.

Like seriously, is it me or is all of the best new Star Wars stuff in the comics?

^ Case in point

People hated Rose and Holdo because Rose is an obnoxious, annoying hypocrite (zaps Finn for trying to abandon the resistance but then runs him over when he tries to save everyone, dooming them all) and Holdo is unreasonable, legit hides her plan from everyone for no reason (imagine if Mon Mothma in ROTJ just hid her plan from everyone and nobody knew what was going on; Han or Luke would have every right to try and prosecute her if her plan looked like it was going to get everybody killed. Or if in ANH Jan Dodonna only said “Just send a bunch of X-Wings out at the Death Star.” Of course people are going to rebel, it looks like you’re just incompetent and getting a bunch of people killed) and the “moral” of her hiding the plan from everybody else was dumb political stuff I won’t bring up because I don’t want this thread to become all political. Watch Vito’s video on The Last Jedi, it’s pretty much perfect. Sure people made fun of Holdo’s hair but that’s because they hated the character anyway for other reasons and were therefore prompted to make fun of her more, if she was a well written character they wouldn’t have done that. Like think about it, when you hate someone because of who they are as a person, you’re more likely to make fun of things like their appearance. It’s really that simple.

❕ <strong>Welcome to the OriginalTrilogy.com |</strong> Introduce yourself in here | <strong>Useful info within</strong> ❕
Time

Kinda late to introduce myself but my name is Alex and I’m 18. I go by G&G-Fan as I used to be a gigantic fan of Godzilla and Gamera when I was younger so I used that username on every site I registered on, especially YouTube, and since pretty much everyone calls me G&G unless they’re a close friend I’ve stuck with the name, even though I’m more into paleontology (especially dinosaurs and other Mesozoic animals), Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, though I still have an interest in kaiju (mostly Godzilla).

I came because I have a huge interest in fan-edits; I generally think the idea of reediting a movie to improve it is awesome. I first got into fan-editing when I started reediting some of the Heisei Godzilla movies for myself (though I never finished any of them, but it’s something I’m planning on doing in the future), I completed an edit combining the Japanes and American versions of the original Godzilla, and I came back because I wanted to make my own Star Wars fan-edits so I could shape the films however I wanted.

I had a mild interest in Star Wars when I was younger; it really wasn’t until TFA and Rogue One that I actually really got into it. I started watching the prequels and originals again as a result and really got into the lore. My favorites have always been Revenge of the Sith, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. A New Hope is great as well but it’s never been a huge favorite of mine. My favorite Star Wars character and favorite fictional character ever is Anakin/Vader (not only because he’s a badass but because I feel like I can relate to certain traits of him; I feel like I could do an entire psychological analysis of him), and I’m also a fan of Qui-Gon, Sidious, Luke, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Maul. I guess you could probably call me a “prequel fan” as I enjoy all three prequels, I generally defend them (Hayden Christensen did a good job and was perfect for the role of Anakin, don’t @ me), have an addiction to prequel memes, and get giddy whenever original trilogy stuff ties in with the prequels. Nevertheless, I do prefer the original trilogy between the two as it’s overall a better trilogy, though I consider Revenge of the Sith to be on the same tier as the OT movies. I despise the sequels but I think that Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars was overall a great thing, as we got The Mandalorian, Rogue One, and I generally prefer the Disney Canon when it comes to the stuff that came between the films. Disney’s portrayal of Vader especially I think is way better then Legends. My favorite Star Wars thing Disney has put out is actually the Vader comics, and I’d kill for a movie that’s just like them. I also have a more positive view of the special editions then most may have: while some changes are downright stupid and bad, I think they had all the right ideas, even if they were sometimes misguided and/or lacking in terms of execution. I do also support the original versions of the films being released in a presentable quality.

And on an unrelated note I also created and am leading the development of an upcoming dinosaur wildlife documentary called Dinosauria: Ascension, Domination, Downfall. It’s progressing slowly but surely, I’m very proud of the work me and my team has done so far and I’m excited for it to be finished, everyone involved is putting a lot of hard work into it. My goal with it is for it to be the most scientifically accurate and beautifully made dinosaur documentary since Walking with Dinosaurs.

Also, I actually came here because I have a question; how do you put a link in words? Like you did for every link in the first post (the link to the discord server, about and help pages, etc.). I’d like to change my signature so I don’t have the full link in there.

George's Alternate Altered Trilogy (AKA, The GAAT) (ANH V1 Released)
Time

Oooooo, this sounds cool. I look forward to seeing how you intergrate SC 38 Reimagined. It’s a fantastic scene and I’m glad you’re using it. I also really like the idea of Leia’s gun sounding like a Naboo pistol.

Also, Imperial March in ANH is a big fat yes IMO.

I’m also interested in seeing your new color grades for the 2011 Blu-Rays and the new Boba Fett lines and Saber duel footage for ROTJ. I highly suggest for ROTJ using the 2020 Blu-Ray for the Shuttle Tydirium scene since it was out of focus in the 2011 Blu-Ray but was fixed for the 2020 one.

Would it not be amazing if we got a Darth Vader movie directed by Christopher Nolan?
Time

If a Vader movie directed by anyone was made it’d probably be one of the rare occasions that I watch a movie more then once in the theater. Vader is my favorite character and means a lot to me personally. I’d be soooooo hyped for a movie about him.

Have him duel Jedi Masters. Delve into his psyche, his feelings after losing Padme and his conflicting feelings for his master, his abusive father figure. Have him fight Maul (obviously actually have a story behind it; have that be why Maul’s crime syndicate crumbles, because it gets too much attention from the Empire and Vader goes to wipe out Maul). Show him scouring the galaxy for Obi-Wan. Show his true power. And I’d kill for an adaptation of the comic arc in which he gets his first lightsaber and corrupts his kyber crystal. Just looking at those comic panels gives me chills, I can’t imagine how incredible it would be to see that on the big screen.

And if they can, actually give the Royal Guards something to do.

<s>Why I Love Prequel Yoda</s> (<em>Outdated</em>)
Time

I’ve seen quite a few edits of the prequel trilogy that completely remove Yoda having a lightsaber, and people generally criticize that they gave him a lightsaber as they feel it’s inconsistent his character in the original trilogy. This is true, but I think people who do this miss that him not being the same as he was in the original trilogy was the point. I think it represents character growth for him between the prequels and the originals.

Remember when Yoda said “Wars not make one great” in Empire Strikes Back? He learned that from the Clone Wars. I mean, how else would he learn it, there was no other wars in his lifetime (the Sith had been extinct for a millennia by The Phantom Menace, and he was less then 900 years old in that movie), and things are learned best from experience. He learned from the Clone Wars that war, violence, and swinging around with a lightsaber wasn’t the solution to anything. It actually allowed the Sith to rise to power.

When he says “Failed I have” in Revenge of the Sith, he isn’t just talking about losing to Sidious in a duel, he’s talking about how he failed the galaxy because the Jedi Order lost its way. Did the Clone Wars make him great? No. The Clone Wars destroyed the Jedi Order and forced him to live a life of solitude on Dagobah while the two Sith Lords ruled the galaxy, one of them who was supposedly the Chosen One meant to destroy the Sith. That’s what he meant.

It’s only through the teachings of Qui-Gon, who became his master after Revenge of the Sith and was basically the perfect Jedi, even if nobody could see it, was Yoda able to grow into the character he is in Empire Strikes Back.

Besides, he also does tell Luke that he needs to kill Vader in Return of the Jedi. Not exactly the most pacifist thing to do. He also says, “Do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor”, which obviously means he faced him before.

I think it all makes Yoda a much more compelling character. There’s things to learn even for the oldest and the wisest. He was even wrong to a degree in the original trilogy: as mentioned earlier, he and Obi-Wan thought Vader had to be killed. But Luke believed he could be redeemed, and he was right.

EDIT: I retract what I said here in this thread. I’ve realized for awhile now that it wasn’t Lucas’ intent to have a character arc for Yoda in the prequels in which he realizes that war is wrong.

Lucas’ intent was to show that the Jedi participating in the war was hindering their values, even if they had no other choice. Yoda, like every Jedi, was put in a tough spot, in which he was forced to fight. It’s not about Yoda learning to be non-violent (he’s the same in the prequels as he is in the OT), but about the Jedi being put in a no-win situation, as elaborated in this brilliant Quora answer.
https://qr.ae/pvuA2y

As George elaborates (in this quote he’s responding to a question asking if the Jedi are like police officers).

GEORGE LUCAS: No. They’re not like cops who catch murderers. They’re warrior-monks who keep peace in the universe without resorting to violence. The Trade Federation is in dispute with Naboo, so the Jedi are ambassadors who talk both sides and convince them to resolve their differences and not go to war. If they do have to use violence, they will, but they are diplomats at the highest level. They’ve got the power to send the whole force of the Republic, which is 100 000 systems, so if you don’t behave they can bring you up in front of the Senate. They’ll cut you off at the knees, politically.

They’re like police officers. As the situation develops in the Clone Wars they are recruited into the army, and they become generals. They’re not generals. They don’t kill people. They don’t fight. They’re supposed to be ambassadors. There are a lot of Jedi that think that the Jedi sold out, that they should never have been in the military, but…

PAUL DUNCAN: Do you think that?

GEORGE LUCAS: It’s a tough call. It’s one of the conundrums of which there’s a bunch of in my movies. You have to think it through. Are they going to stick with their moral rules and all be killed, which makes it irrelevant, or do they help save the Republic? They have good intentions, but they have been manipulated which was their downfall.

<strong>The Empire Strikes Back</strong> - a general <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> thread
Time

Vader’s journey to becoming Anakin again didn’t start in Return of the Jedi nor in the time between then and this movie, it started when Luke dropped into the abyss.

When Vader is going on to Luke about how they can team up, kill the Emperor, and rule the galaxy together, he’s pretty much pouring his heart out to him. He’s talking to him the same way he talked to Padme. But when Luke, by his actions, basically says “I’d rather die then join you”, that actually hurts him, deeply, as any rejection would.

Between that moment and the end of Revenge of the Sith, Vader was completely focused on the dark side and being a Sith, but this was the moment that actually brought some of Anakin out of him again. The telepathic conversation between the two pretty much cements this in my view: when he says “Son, come with me”, Vader isn’t talking to him like an evil Sith lord, he’s talking to him like a father.

It’s why he went from being the most powerful Sith of all time, with incredible feats such as ripping open the crust of Mustafar and the netherworld of the Force itself against it’s will (as seen in the comics taking place between ROTS and ANH) to being bested by Sidious (as seen in the new comics; Sidious literally outright states that it’s because he’s lost a lot of his power) and eventually Luke. It created a rift in his connection with the dark side, and he was hugely conflicted.

The arc was completed in Return of the Jedi, but it started here.

The <strong>Original Trilogy</strong> Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

I just thought of another idea for my Vader duel scene idea that I think is awesome and would add a layer of character to Vader: if he, at some point during the duel, asked one of the Jedi in a very commanding, interrogating tone, “Where is Kenobi?” I think just that alone would make him look even more relentless, as it would show how after all of those years he still really wants to kill his old master, the one that maimed him.
