Gaffer Tape's YouTube Reviews of Awesome Candy-Creating Goodness! (The Facts of Life/Star Trek III Conspiracy!)
Time

I have to address one of bkev's YouTube comments here because I simply don't have enough room to do so on that format.  Basically, he asked if the video quality (at least I assume and hope he meant video quality rather than, say, quality of the editing) was lower than in my previous videos.

Well, I have a few things to say to that.  First off is that I just spent five videos in a row sourcing poor-quality YouTube clips of Power Rangers.  I would certainly hope the quality at least seems better than that!!!

However, there is a more technical answer because, as everyone knows by now, I'm always struggling with my low-powered computer and consumer-grade editing software.  And that's why I'd been doing still-image videos of late and been putting off Wonder Woman.  I was afraid to try.  And I admit I had reason to.  Because converting this thing into a useable form was a bitch, and I was plagued with all the same problems I'd had for the past year... all the stuttering and pops and timing being ruined.  Of particular note was the "...such pertinent information as..." lasso of truth scene, which came out as, "'What doeswhatdoes' and 'God, your daughter'sgod your daughter's.'"  Obviously that was not going to fly.

So I experimented with different codecs, and nothing worked well.  There were fewer jitters like that, but they'd always leave out huge hunks of audio.  For some reason they were particularly adverse to that very first stock footage segment from the previous video.  It was almost always silent.

Finally, I came to the conclusion that my computer just can no longer handle having to write a file for three video tracks, three audio tracks, transitions, and effects, so, with time running out to meet my anniversary deadline (I planned it to make sure it would come out on this day, and damn it all if I wasn't going to succeed) I decided I would have to make things easier for it.  I remembered that I had an option to simply convert the audio by itself.  And I realized that in my previous conversion attempts, the video came out perfectly.  It was only the audio that was crap.  So I decided that pre-mixing everything might make it come out alright.  So I converted the audio to MP3, made a new timeline, and paired that with one of the already-converted video tracks, so that I only had one video, one audio, no transitions, no effects.  The audio, though much better, still wasn't perfect, but I was able to fix most of the stutters, although I still find myself cringing at the pops and stutters that remain, particularly Hippolyte's line to Persephone ("You were given a lifelife...").  But I couldn't get it any better, and there wasn't anything too bad this time.

And like I said, I experimented with a lot of different video codecs.  The .mov was the best-looking of the bunch, but its animation was not very fluid, which was especially noticeable in the comic page pans, which were so jumpy I almost got motion sickness.  So even though the .mp4 wasn't that great-looking, it was the most useable of what I had.  And I also had to use that file type in order to upload because it was small enough for my sitting-in-my-car-at-the-park-sapping-wi-fi connection to not take two hours.

So to finally answer your question, I don't know if converting an already-converted mpeg4 into an mpeg4 results in generational loss, but if it does, that probably accounts for any noticeable dip in quality, although I much prefer a slightly fuzzier image to having it appear that I'm just a sloppy editor.  That said, I probably had no business zooming in as much as I did on some of those comics pages.  My scanner is broken, so I had to take those images with my digital camera, so they weren't that amazing to begin with.  I take full responsibility for that...

So why the Frink are you using IE?  Are you just an e-hole?

I'm not sure.  I used to have it.  Back in the good old days before life sucked... say, November 2008, I believe, I did install Firefox and start using it.  And I remember being... what's the word... happy?  It's hard to remember both that emotion and what exactly it was about Firefox that pleased me.  Well, in February 2009, many, many terrible things happened to me, and one of those was that my computer died.  Well, my laptop screen died, and it was cheaper to just buy a new computer.  So I did.  After that, I just never really thought about getting Firefox again.  So here I am, a massive e-hole... or something.  Wait.  What does that word mean again?

So I've noticed that certain people like bkev have really been getting on my case over the past year about... I don't know.  Something or other.  It honestly slips my mind.  But there was some pang of... I don't know.  Some kind of feeling or something of something that I needed to do.  So, um, yeah, I threw this YouTube thing together in about fifteen minutes today.

Wonder Woman... Part 2!

(I haven't had TV in a year)?

Awesome! I haven't had TV in ten years. (Cheated a little in order to watch Lost and Galactica the last few years, but now that they are both over, I am 100% TV free).

Heh, don't paint me too praise-worthy.  It's not by choice.  It's because I can't afford TV access.  Doesn't mean I don't watch a lot of television shows on DVD on my computer.  =P

Best way to see it is to right click on it and select "view image."

right click on it and select view image.

Does this not work for anyone else?  I use IE8 (I know, I know) and it is not on my right-click menu.  I am forced to go to properties, look at the url, and copy that into a new browser tab.

Wait.  I said that?  I also use IE8 (I know, I know), so I don't have that option and have always been confused as to what the Frink everyone's talking about.

I usually first think of JEWS IN SPAAAAACE! (Mel Brooks, if you don't know (or couldn't guess))...

Haha, yes, I have indeed seen History of the World Part I (still waiting on that sequel, Mel).  Not sure why that particular reference doesn't stick out to me more strongly.

IN SPAAAAAACE!

+1

Haha, yeah, I totally couldn't resist that.  Whenever I hear that title I always think of "Pigs in Space."  That and "Limozeen:  But They're in Space!" from Homestarruner.com.

When I would see the theme song for the show, every time it ended, I couldn't help but hear Teeg Dougland go, "I'm afraid I have some bad news, boys.  You're in space."

Haha, I certainly had no intention of trying to get you to force her.  You had just said earlier that you thought she'd been into it.  Looks like you were wrong-o, buddy.  So now if I should ever be in a position to meet your wife, she'll already have this terrible, terrible first impression of me, and it's all thanks to you.  =P

So being the down on myself creator that I am, I always meticulously rewatch my videos to find any flaws, and I must say that, while I usually never put too much emphasis on the plot, especially in this installment, I'm downright appalled at how little weight I gave Zordon's death.  Not that I've actually seen Countdown to Destruction I admit (or any episode of Power Rangers IN SPAAAAAACE!), but that was the capstone of ending the direct continuity, and, "Oh, he died," was pretty much all the weight I gave it.  What the hell, me?!

Certainly glad to hear it.  This one probably was the most difficult of the five.  I'm curious.  Did you ever get Mrs. doubleofive to watch them?  If so, what were the effects?  Did it inspire feelings of romance and happiness or, conversely, psychopathic rage, apathy, or frustration and tears?

A Mighty Morphin Sentai Conclusion

And with this, the series finally comes to an end.  After a month and half of countless hours of watching Power Rangers and Sentai, and after just under an hour's worth of videos, I have reached my conclusion.  So if anybody mentions Power Rangers or Sentai to me for a while, I might just vomit.

As always, comments, critiques, etc. are welcome.  Hopefully all the information was accurate.  These particular series aren't exactly my area of expertise.  Thanks for all your support, guys.  To those with more refined tastes whose interest I lost during this series, hopefully I'll pull you back in in the future.

Phew.  After this I think I'll be taking a short break.

Except maybe for Wonder Woman.  I'd hate to leave that one hanging for over a year.  =P

Damnit, xhonzi!  I'm poor (seriously, running out of money here)!  There's no budget for a squeaky chair here, Richie Rich!

Thank you for the feedback, though.  As always, it is most appreciated and shall be filed with the appropriate workers... whom I've had to lay off due to lack of funds.  =P

How do all these lousy kids and spies keep getting made?

On the plus side, this movie does feature Rider Strong.  Sounds like a prawn* name if there ever was one.

Whaaa?  Rider Strong was Shawn in one of my favorite childhood series... Boy Meets World.

Unfortunately, your image wouldn't load for me, so what spies with kids or kids with spies or spy-based children or children-based spies movie are we talking about here?

So I've been playing Zelda 2 on NES for a while now, and I don't see why everybody hates on it so much. I LOVE this game!

I think it is because everyone just gives up too easily. Yeah, it is a really awesome game! As much as I loved Ocarina of Time, which many people proclaim as the best Zelda ever, I still have to put it below Zelda 2 on my list (proceeded by the original and A Link to the Past).

Oh, yeah.  I finally beat Zelda II two years ago, and I thought it was awesome!  Loved it!

Not sure if I could have beaten it without a bit of internet help, but still I consider it to be vastly underrated.
