Superman The Movie Audio Problem
Time

So, and I might have to turn over some of my established nerd cred here, I've never seen Superman The Movie.  At least, not in its entirety.  To rectify this, I've been trying to find it.  And despite all of the price gouging fye frequently indulges in, I was able to find the 4-disc DVD of the first film for a whopping $4.99.  I thought it was too good to be true.  And, lately, any time I buy a movie, I wonder if it is.  I always like to do my research first to make sure there's not some newer, better release.  And more often than not, I try to find out if the so-called "newer, better" release isn't some sham with terrible color correction, extended scenes, and all the crap I don't want.  But at $4.99, I felt I didn't have the kind of time to go and find out for sure.  So I got it.

And then I went home and did my research.  And I found out that, when this set was released, there was an audio problem.  Namely, that an unpopular remixed audio track for the extended cut was put on both the 5.1 and 2.0 tracks when the original mix was supposed to be on the 2.0.  Now apparently Warner set up an 800 number to call to get the discs replaced with fixed ones.  And I assume all subsequent shipments had the corrected disc.  Since it's so late at night, I wasn't able to find out if the 800 number was still active (it's been four years after all).

So chances are I don't have a release-date version of this set, and I should have no problem.  But, as I've said, I've never even seen this movie before.  So, just in case what should I be listening for?  How can I tell if this has the wrong audio?

Hehe, true.  But my point is that's what always worried me.  I was the first guest on that show, and I can tell you he put a lot of work into it.  We probably exchanged at least a dozen PMs in the day and hours leading up to it.  It was going to start at a certain time, include certain things (including a lot of pictures).  He took it seriously.  I assume it was similar with bkev as the guest.  So for vfp to disappear in the middle of that with no explanation has always struck me as disconcerting.  It wasn't like he just randomly stopped posting one day.

I had no idea he was taking seriously.  I thought it was all a big joke.   I hope he didn't get offended by me posting those pics of Edward R. Murrow and posting of the Casablanca scene.  It was meant to be in good fun.

Oh, I didn't mean it wasn't just a whole lot of nonsensical fun.  I just meant he was putting some effort into it.  And it's one thing if you just get bored one day and randomly stop posting without telling anybody.  It's a whole other thing if you're right in the middle of presenting a big project and then are swallowed into the abyss.

[Article] "It's Time to Forgive George Lucas"
Time

I thought it was a decently-written article, and I certainly hope those who are foaming at the mouth and crying for blood can see it and calm down a bit.  But I agree it is missing the point.  Like Mielr said, the prequels don't bother me as much as the SEs do (although with the 2004 version having the prequels bleed into them, that does sour me on them a bit).  I'd much prefer Lucas give up Star Wars, end the franchise, now and forever, and have no one ever write another book, code another video game, or shoot another movie.  That would be great.  But at the end of the day, all I really care about is getting the trilogy the respect it deserves, and the article doesn't even touch on that.

"... the fowl of the air, the fish of the sea..."

^no sarcasm intended, I lol'd at the clips from the movie. :-LOL

Wow.  A Citizen Kane animated gif, at least in my eyes, certainly raises the artform of animated giffery to more respectable levels, I think.  Bravo.  And thank you.

And, yeah, the entire structure was modeled after Citizen Kane's "News on the March," so there are subtle (and not so subtle nods to it throughout).  But there's actually one more direct Citizen Kane-ism nestled in it...
