Yeah, I pretty much agree with you, Ric. I wouldn't care if my kids saw violent movies. If, however, they ended up having nightmares or it scared the ever-loving crap out of them, I wouldn't let them see any more for a while. As for sex, well, as long as sex isn't the main theme of the movie, I probably wouldn't mind too much if they were really little, and it had one mild sex scene it, because, really, if they're extremely young, it will go right over their heads, and they'll have no idea what they just saw. If it was graphic sex with nudity, well, that would be a no-no.

BEAUTIFUL WOMEN NEW RULES IN FIRST POST (NSFW) UPDATED RULES
Time
Heh, sorry, but I was watching the second episode the other day, and Kevin was at Brian Cooper's visitation. He was sitting next to Winnie, and the narrator was talking about what he wanted to do to her "78-pound body." And that's what made me wonder if he ever felt the least bit uncomfortable about that. And it also made me wonder if Danica McKellar's parents ever cared that she was (more or less) the sex object in that show. I mean, sure, it was handled innocently, but, if you think about, that's really what she was.

By the way, that's a show that really needs a DVD release.

As long as we're on the topic, I hate that we depend on ratings to figure out what is and what is not safe for children to watch. It's just like the parents who complained to George Lucas because Revenge of the Sith was rated PG-13. "Now we can't let our kids see it, and they wanted to so bad!" as if this giant number 13 was suddenly blocking the door of the movie theatre, and there was nothing the parents could do about it. Parents should make up their own minds about what they feel is appropriate for their children, not let some number system do it for them. Each child is different and is at different levels of maturity, so we don't need to fall into some stupid form-fitting system.

And I especially hate television ratings, but that's because they are annoying to look at. I watched some tapes I recorded back in 1997, and it's amazing how tiny the rating was back then. I was still annoyed with it blocking the screen then, but as of June of this year, have you noticed that the ratings are now huge at the beginning of the show? They take up nearly a quarter of the screen, and then they show a smaller rating when they come back from each commercial break. It's just so stupid. Anybody who actually cared about the TV ratings (which is no one in my household) could already see it easily enough without it covering up the entire screen. The whole thing is just stupid.

What is your favourite reference to Star Wars films in other shows (TV and Film)?

It's the one where Fry and Bender (and Leela in disguise) join the army. They go through training, and Fry has to battle a remote with a lightsaber-like device while wearing a flight helmet with the visor down. He finally hits the remote, and candy falls out like a pinata.

Then again, I honestly think it's more the directing than anything. Think about it; Sabat is one of, if not THE worst FUNi has... And he is the one who normally DIRECTS their voice overs? Makes NO sense at all.

Sean Schemmel can be pretty good when he finds the right motivation, and he has Goku's personality down very well. I don't suppose I've seen anything else with him. Though I did imagine his voice for Alexander Luthor while reading Crisis on Infinite Earths. (Why? I have no idea.)

I don't know what their deal is with Chris Sabat. Are they still using him for voice director? I thought they were using John Burgmeier more now. I just remember that they gave Sabat too many damn voices to do in the DragonBall series... and they all sucked. Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamucha, Kami-sama... the list goes on.

And I agree that Sean Schemmel's Goku can be pretty decent at times, but what he did to Kaio-sama's voice is completely intolerable. Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

No wonder I never watch the dub anymore. Or any dubbed anime for that matter...

Rather than quote the last post (because it's getting quite lengthy, you'll agree), I just decided to go for the original. Hmm, that's interesting, though. I don't agree with compulsory voting, although I think it's good that your country is really into it regardless (even though I turned 18 last year and didn't vote in the last presidential election). I do like the blank vote concept, though, where you can vote for no one. Not only does it sound like a cool idea, it doesn't seem nearly as choice-inhibiting as the government forcing you to choose a candidate, even if you like none, which is what I originally thought you meant.

Our first VCR was probably bought in 1984. It was a General Electric, a top loader. It too had the wired control, but we hardly ever used it because it hardly ever worked. I was the only person who could ever get it to work, but once I did, I could never remember afterwards what I had done to cause it to work. Don't you just hate when that happens? The tracking adjustments were done with dials. You had to push in Play and Record at the same time (those cool silver buttons) to record. You could set to record a channel by pressing little buttons on the front. These buttons corresponded to a little interchangeable faceplate with light-up numbers on it. I assume they were interchangeable because the plate would slide out. If there were any plates with other numbers on it, though, I could never find them, so I was usually stuck only being able to record channels 1-13. There were some notable exceptions, but I couldn't tell you how I was able to do that. There was a flip pannel below that with all these little clicky switches, and I have no idea what they did. You had to hold in the rewind or fast-forward buttons to scan while watching a tape, but the image was so distorted that it really did no good, and it was probably damaging to the tape. Finally, the only images it would show were distorted and fuzzy, and we finally replaced it in 1998.

Ah, fun times. I think we still have it around somewhere. I'm going to have to go look for it now!

Could live action SW TV show look like BSG??

I don't think it's been ruined from a purely objective standpoint. I think, however, it's ruined compared to what it once was. To use your rocky road analogy, if a smoothly paved road becomes horribly messed up, jagged, and split, it could be considered ruined. It's still possible to drive on it and use it but compared to the road it once was, it's ruined.
