'Merge' Article- Lucas in his own words
Time
Of course we'll never be satisfied, olzen! What's wrong with that? I love the original movies, but I can still point out flaws in them and things that annoy me. I generally gloss over them because my enjoyment of them allows me to do so. But that's what separates the casual fan from the uber fan. We can complain and nitpick things, and it doesn't make us any less fans. It just means we know everything so well that we can pick up on details.

To add in my two cents, I always thought that the Luke/Leia sibling thing was a really easy copout explanation to quickly resolve the love triangle. "Hmm. Well, it seems that in the last movie, Han and Leia really started to develop feelings for each other... Hmm, how am I going to get Luke out of the picture? Maybe I should have Luke and Leia spend some time together and talk through their feelings, and make Leia very confused and finally come to a painful decision about who to love. Nah, screw that! I need Luke to be on the Death Star away from his friends, so let's just say they're brother and sister! Kills that crush. Luke can go on with his quest to kill/redeem his father, and Leia just won't care."

But I just thought of something. The main justification for the Luke/Leia siblingship is that it's what finally causes Luke to go over the edge in his duel. Well, wouldn't it have made him go over the edge if he loved her in a romantic way? So let's explore that scenario. Luke is pissed because Vader threated his woman. But we learn from more scenes in Return of the Jedi on Endor that Leia's feelings for Han have definitely solidified. So while Luke is fighting to save the woman he loves, we as the audience know that he doesn't have her. Makes it very poignant.

I totally agree with battlewars here. When I first started seeing ads for The Phantom Menace (well, back before it even had its title and beyond), and it was only referred to as Episode I, I knew it was simply a marketing ploy. We'd seen these little numbers in the crawl all the time, and there were so many casual fans who kept on asking, "Why is the first one Episode IV?" So they started calling them by their episode numbers so people would give a double take, "Ooh, so that's the reason!" And then, of course, Star Wars was thrown around a lot too because of its name value. So, at the end of the day, the real title had no real place in it anymore, so they were all relegated to a tiny little font at the bottom of the logo. And suddenly, the rest of the movie industry decided, "Wow! That's an awesome idea! We should make movies like that too!" And so the world ended...

A Future For Futurama?

Well, the creators of Jump the Shark generally say that it wasn't the necessarily the act of jumping the shark that screwed Happy Days, but the fact that, from that point on, Happy Days sucked. That was also right around the time Chachi joined the show, and Richie and the others started college. Although, on the website, most people voted for Ron Howard leaving being the jump the shark point.

What's the situation with Lucas saying he "forgot" to insert Temuerra Morrison's voice into the OT?

If you saw the deleted Biggs scenes you know he didn't want to join the Empire but the Rebellion.

Yeah, but, like olzen said, he still wanted to join the Imperial Academy. It's where all his friends went. Even without the deleted scenes, we know that Luke wanted to join the rebellion ("You know of the rebellion against the Empire?!" "It's not like I like the Empire, I hate it!"), but that's where his friends were, and that scene with Biggs, who was also in the Imperial Academy, just helped plant the idea in his head that he, like Biggs, could defect and fight with the Rebels.

So, what would happen if he did release the OOT on DVD?
Time
I agree with CO. DVD is definitely good enough for me. Just having it on video tape would be enough if video wasn't such a flimsy format that wears out too easily. DVD quality is close enough to film quality, and it lasts, so that's all I care about. I'm not really interested enough in the little frills of HD to spend that much money on it.

And, greencapt, I too am very surprised that PSP has gotten so big.

I really don't see where most of the Maul hype comes from. I mean, he looks badass, I'll definitely agree with that, and he's very good with a lightsaber, and he pioneered the double-bladed lightsaber. But he's really nothing. They didn't do anything with him. He had no character. He was just this silent guy with spikes who died like a punk at the end of the movie.

Hmm. Kinda like some bounty hunter we used to know. I guess I withdraw the complaint.

And I'm not especially fond of what they are now. They don't give decent shows a chance, bumping them around and giving them crappy time slots in order to showcase new, horrible reality shows. But, yeah, it is rather ironic that they were originally cutting edge and urban and politically incorrect, yet a just a few years ago, they had problems with "Wish Upon a Weinstein."

I still don't see where you're getting that Vader and Boba are old college pals. From what I've seen, they have little more than a working relationship. Boba Fett just happened to be smart enough to track Han, and he's cool enough to not take crap from Vader. The movies never point them out to be any closer than that. In fact, the prequels point out well enough that Boba Fett really wouldn't trust Force users all that much.

Yeah, but there is too much of a good thing. In the past, you'd have a main plot, and, every so often, they'd cut away to the nonsequiter flashbacks, and it'd be funny. Now, you barely have a plot because all the flashbacks constitute the entire episode.

It's like how the Fonz was a cooler character on Happy Days when he was a minor character. Then they made him the star, and it wasn't as good.

Geez, I hope not. It makes him look like an idiot for two reasons: one, that he'd want to do that in the first place, and two, that he'd be dumb enough to forget to do it. Even if I was a fan of changes and special editions, I'd be getting pretty pissed at George that each time he goes back and changes things, he never seems to do a decent job with it. And his mantra is, "Oh, well, I'll just get it right next time." It just makes him seem like a hack. And that's how his empire continues to thrive, because people will continue to go back and say, "Ooh, he's gotten it better than before. Good for him! I'll shell out $50 for it!"

Sorry, Adam, I don't have the link you're looking for, so I guess this was a useless post, but I just had to get that off my chest.

It really irritates how people keep claiming that the PT had to be made now because the special effects necessary to make it hadn't been invented until now. And it especially annoys me when people think that's the reason the OT was made before the PT. True, the special effects are mostly what carry these movies, but there's hardly anything in any of them that couldn't have been accomplished to some degree with the effects made for the original Star Wars movies.
