Yeah, that one was easily able to be removed. I mean, it's a nice little sideplot, but I think the coolest thing about it was how it almost seemed like the book had built in a simple answer for cutting it out, since Neville was supposed to be the one that pointed Harry to the gillyweed in the book in the first place.

I'm basically happy with the way the movies are now with only a few exceptions. I really don't think they need extended versions. The Voldemort scene was fine the way it was. The lengthy exposition that Voldemort rattled off in the book about his history for the past 13 years was very interesting but would have gotten old fast as movie dialogue. Anyway, the only glaring continuity errors that really bother me are when Uncle Vernon in Azkaban suddenly knows that Harry's not allowed to do magic in school despite him never finding out and previously thinking that Harry could bewitch him at any minute. Another is the removal of Azkaban's backstory about the animagi and the origin of the Marauder's Map, Whomping Willow, etc. And I know I just complained about exposition, but this was really important and leads into my final complaint: Peter Pettigrew being referred to by Harry solely as Wormtail in Goblet of Fire, despite the fact that the previous movie had not at all attributed that name to him. The rest, like changing schoo geography, different actors, and other minor problems and omissions really don't bother me at all. I have a friend whose enjoyment of Chamber of Secrets is diminished because the Deathday Party was ommitted, and that was Moaning Myrtle's original entrance into the story. The lack of that never bothered me at all, and her introduction in her bathroom is quite perfect for the sake of condensing things. Yet she insists that it completely ruins the character. I guess it's an individual thing.

I actually prefer the DVDs and can't wait for more edits, seriously.

I don't get the argument of the Shaw force ghost not making sense because he never existed that way. I mean, it's a very common idea that the souls of those in the afterlife are the manifestation of the last currently known living form of that person only healed from wounds and injury. I admit that the theory of returning to a younger and more active "age" after death is also a common theory, but it doesn't fit the rest of the evidence presented in the movies. Ben appears looking like he did at the age that he died, except that he's not cut in half, the injury he sustained that killed him. And Yoda is presented at the age he was when he died, except he didn't seem ill. So that theory holds itself entirely consistent. To allude to the other popular theory of, "George had to use Shaw because he didn't have a young Anakin yet!", there was absolutely nothing keeping Lucas from having the Shaw ghost appear as the burnt and bald inside the suit Anakin. As we'd already witnessed that form, we know there was nothing that would have prevented him from reusing it if he wanted to. But he chose to have the perfect representation of Anakin at the age that he died, just as he had with the ghosts of Ben and Yoda. And now his meddling has made his entire logic of Force ghosts completely inconsistent.

Not completely. Kloves wrote to a mandated length. The original plan for Goblet was to make two 2-hour movies out of it. Alfonso convinced Newell to trim the book down to a 2.5 hour movie. Kloves wrote to that length.

Azkaban could have stood about five more minutes to tie up some loose ends.

Goblet of Fire could have stood about ten more minutes (past the length of the extended edition) to give it a bit of breathing space and to tie up some more loose ends. The Rita Skeeter subplot really needed to be completed.

Wait. There's an extended edition?

And, yes, I agree that Azkaban could have been helped by some fleshing out, especially in regards to the origins of a certain map.

I would always show the original version. In fact, I did that last summer when I showed them to my girlfriend's little sister. As for which one, I'd love to see a version that was never released to home format: the original '77 theatrical version without "Episode IV A New Hope" in the title. As for which audio track to use, I'd take any of the three original mixes. I'm not too picky when it comes to that.

I never could work that one out.

Well, that's another hyperdrive issue, isn't it? The X-Wing's hyperdrive was working fine, while the Falcon was hoofing it on normal speed.

Jackson Shuts Down Neverland House

I guess I'm forever the devil's advocate when it comes to these forums, and now that AWK is gone, I have to find another unpopular opinion to support. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a good Michael Jackson joke as much as the next guy (anybody see the Robot Chicken parody where it turns out that this current Michael Jackson was actually an alien replacement instituted when his hair caught on fire?). But did it ever occur to anybody that maybe he's just a now-really-weird-looking guy who genuinely likes children and doesn't actually molest them? And that maybe parents of said children are banking in on the fact that this isn't quite status quo behavior and taking him to court?

I'll go hide under my rock now.

Has it already been a month? Damn. Sigh. Reminiscing.

Wow. I didn't notice that Warbler was back on the Top 10. Looks like he's closest to knocking Adam down a notch. And then I guess it will be Sessler to perfrom the fatality.

George Lucas helped film the Godfather?

Hey, I loved Jack! Of course, I was a bit surprised when I found out a few weeks ago that it was Coppola directing it, but I still think it's an awesome movie. Not The Godfather, but Jack trying to be The Godfather would just be really weird.
